Holy fuck that fight in club
Debola against the two gang member bosses
was some hot garbage. Why did they make the boss fights in this game 10x more tedious than 0? That was the worst one yet.

Legit the hardest fight in the game for me. Kept being stunned and attacked by one guy while I was attacking the other. In the end I cheesed it with some Heat drinks and a masterwork dagger because I was getting a bit frustrated.

You can buy anti-stun headgear (i forget where, possibly from the casino) its still a pain, but its not that bad.

Really? I admit I barely look into gear or weapons in Yakuza games aside from what I immediately get. I feel like I would've saved myself a lot of frustration if I had explored that mechanic.

So does someone who is completely new to the series start with this and Yakuza 0? Which would I play first?

Yakuza 0. That's even the official SEGA recommendation.
Guys, the Y0 / Kiwami "which do I play first?" argument is silly.

There are narrative details and substories that have been added to Kiwami that follow up on things that happened in Y0. They aren't written in a "prequel" way in Y0, they are written in a sequel way in Kiwami. In other words, Y0 was the prequel to Y1, but Kiwami is sort of a sequel to Y0.

The official SEGA recommendation is you play Y0 then Kiwami.

Edit: And when I say silly, I mean "amusing".

Is it me or the main story is much shorter than in 0? I'm already at Chapter 4 after a little more then 2 hours.

Given that it's the first in the series that's just how it is, I hear later games are much longer like 0 though.

And there's plenty of side stories.

Okay, I keep passing the construction site and hear some suspicious Majima like noises, but can never get him to pop out. Is theee a specific thing I need to inspect?

Search the area, I don't remember where the construction site is, but after a while you'll hear noises everywhere if he's in an area, usually small area.

Just got finished up with the campaign. 40 hours 60% completion on Hard mode.

Hard mode was fun (considering i normally alternate between easy and normal) although i do greatly regret inadvertently ignoring the Majima everywhere stuff. It made the final boss much harder then it should have been.

If i do decide to go for the platinum i'm definitely going to grind away at the fight club for that Rush booster on easy before attempting it.

About the bug-girl game...so far it seems like most tells for which attack your opponent is going to use are how long they take to choose their attack, right? Seems to work most of the time at least. That some of the symbold randomly flash from time to time doesn't seem to actually matter.

the special kind of despair when you hit 890 points 4 times on otometal my life.
That song man is kicking my ass hard.

Im usually kinda good at the Karaoke minigame, was suprised to see a metal song there, my brain just not adapted to the much faster pace of the song, ended up scoring 770 points in my 1st try.

Usually i score 850- 900+ in my 1st try in all other songs.

In my game right now, i have all other songs with 900+ scores, only otometal my life is still at 770 as i never tryed it again :D Will go back to that one when im in a mood for a challenge.

Just keep in mind when doing the Haruka's trust challenge (in Premium Adventure mode) she'll ask you to get 900+ on the song again, so it might be worth waiting until your at that point so you only need to do it once.
The timing threw me off the first few times as well, since its so much more difficult than pretty much any song in the series (bar Majima's Get to the Top in Dead Souls). I think I changed up my timing to press the correct buttons a hair earlier than usual and that smashed the score target, but I do remember having to try a few times before I got to that point!

I was wondering how directly Kiwami follows from Yakuza 0? I actually beat Yakuza 1 on the PS2 a few years ago, so I'm not worried about learning anything I didn't already know about the Yakuza 1 plot, but I'm not sure if any of the additions would spoil Yakuza 0.

they should put the yakuza 1 dub track on the PSN store

Not compatible with the game because of additional content that was never dubbed/animation adjustments out of sync, etc. It would just be switching between english and japanese, which is a pretty janky experience that would just get them the complaint of "Make the dub work right/be on all the time", and then they'd have to get different english voices because they don't want to pay for celeb actors again, etc.

Thanks for the heads up. Will save the challenge for the premium adventure then ;)

This majima thing is kinda bullshit.... i'm only missing two ablilites and they are locked under IDOL MAJIMA... problem he really never show up, no matter how many times i go into a building and go out again to see if he changed...

what's that haruka trust challenge? Is it necessary? do i miss a lot? I rarely do new game+ (and never did on past yakuza games i played)

None of them, far as I've seen. And I've done most of the substories and am pretty close to the end (I've also played Y1 before)

Though with that being said, I'd still suggest playing Y0 before Y:Kiwami.

i guess i didn't do it correctly because i didn't see him for like 5 chapters, so i looked up how to trigger him, now literally every 2 minutes hes coming for my ass

How do you trigger him?

Can't help but agree with you. It's fantastic the first time he pops up in new ways but having to fight him over and over just to unlock the best style in the game (yeah I said it) is really tiresome.

It's in the north west part of the map, near the large homeless park. I just constantly hear clanking around and patrol the ranges of where the sound well begin and end on each surrounding block. Look for little alleys to go into, and nothing. Just endless clanking. Sounds metallic.

So this is the first Yakuza game I have played with the Tiger Drop (first game was 0), but is it supposed to be this OP. When facing Purple health Majima it takes off like an entire bars worth of health, it basically trivializes most fights.

Welcome to late game Yakuza.

Enjoy your stay.

are JAV idols in every yakuza game? or were they added to kiwami to continue what they did in Y0?

even the same music when watching them. hard to see this type of stuff in ps2 games...

also, are all the characters real japanese actors?

so many questions sorry haha

I think the 1st game to have real Jav Idols was Yakuza 3 or 4. After that they all had Jav idols partnerships.

Generally, yeah.

But Yakuza 1 and 2 had voice actors that didn't have their likenesses copied, only voiced the character. I believe all the protagonists the series has had (with the exception of Tanimura in 4), and Nishiki are voiced without their likenesses based on their performers.

Most of the villains and major characters from 3 onwards are usually real actors with their likenesses based on them. Yakuza 0 has the best "cast" out of all of them. Yakuza 6 has Beat Takeshi.

Some substories in Kiwami build on substories that begun in Zero but you won't spoil anything about Zero's main plot by playing Kiwami first. You could also argue that Zero adds some weight to certain characters and their actions but nothing that's a spoiler or necessary.

Don't worry, you've just unlocked the "real" Yakuza.

Anyone recall if Yakuza 0 ever went on sale digitally? I know this is a 30 hour game but I have Hot Shots, Splatoon, and FFXIV keeping me busy at the moment, and was wondering if I'd find a discount by the time I was ready.

I know that the EU/UK PSN had a pretty good deal on it, but the US PSN had a pretty shitty deal. Maybe by Black Friday? I can't say for sure.

On sale this moment in EU, -50%.

This is one of these "In hindsight..." missions. As in,
the next time I'm going to play this I'm going to get everything she'll eventually ask for straight away.
Indeed, it's one of those RPG things you just remember after the first time. I had a lot of this with Digimon World 2.

Anyways, that girl
Mai...conned the shit out of me and took 1,000,000 yen...is that the end of her or will I ever get to see her again to get my money back somehow?
lucebuce, I thought I'd catch you hanging around this thread more often

Yeah same I generally don't struggle a lot with songs since my first yakuza plat. For kiwami I first tried all of them but am at 15 tries on this song. My biggest issue is the changing tempo.

Damn I probably have to do it twice I want to carry over 100% cp for the legend run.
Still probably better than climax battles lol.

I finished 2 majima battles and gave up after trying the zombie one and the first 2 of the other categories once. My heart can't take that kind of cheapness right now. I still enjoy chipping away at all the other stuff at least I don't have to do arcade game highscores those were really painful in 0 for me.
