Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

So this is the first Yakuza game I have played with the Tiger Drop (first game was 0), but is it supposed to be this OP. When facing Purple health Majima it takes off like an entire bars worth of health, it basically trivializes most fights.

How do I get and use this? I'm right near the end and maximum health Majima is annoying. Not sure what the best way is to combat break dancing, knife and bat Majima as it's taking ages.

Still searching for idol majima... completed all sidequest... it's the only thing i'm missing...

I'm really pissed off by this... guess i'll finish the game and watch the final battle with majima and
Amon
on youtube if i still don't find him in the next hour...

lucebuce, I thought I'd catch you hanging around this thread more often
I have the second highest posts in this thread lol, what do you mean.

It's the second last ability you get from Komaki. You have to meet him, then fight constantly in the coliseum till you have enough points to get the item he wants and give it to him. You have to do it in the order that is prescribed, you can't go out of order. Tiger Drop is the second last ability.

Whenever an enemy attacks, you press R1 + Triangle RIGHT BEFORE the hit lands, and you counter with an incredibly damaging punch that knocks them back. It still requires proper timing but when done well, you can wreck bosses and enemies with it. The Coliseum mostly becomes a joke with that move when you perfect it, and the 60 fps only makes it easier.

Oh god, that black fighter's VA is just some Japanese guy's voice slowed down, isn't it?

Weird af.
I think I know what you're talking about now.
You mean the guy that brings you into Purgatory right?
Yeah I think you're right, and it's stupid. They could've easily found an actual black guy to do the voice instead of this foolish insult.

Speaking of
Purgatory though, Kiryu has retroactively been here before, are there added scenes on him reflecting on his last time in the park
?

oh that's right, you do. it's just myself with a relatively low post count in this thread

Thanks a lot! Think I've got the last three of those to do so will definitely head to the coliseum to get those points up.

Here:

It's easy, make sure you're in calm mode [as in no heat] go on Nakamichi street, enter some restaurant/store, preferably northernmost and exit/re-enter until you hear Majima jingle and see him on the mini-map, then you run up to him, if it's Idol, bingo, if not, repeat the process.

Took me 5-10 minutes yesterday to spawn him.

He's actually never been here before.

The
underground coliseum he was in was in Osaka for Y0, and he was only in West Park for Y0. Purgatory
first came up in Y1.

it's not the same place? huh.
the park looks exactly the same though. has a reputation of being dangerous, loaded with hobos, etc...
could've sworn it's even in the same location on the map.

All tight, for Majima from Above (it's near Hanagata Building). I'm at S rank but I only have 21/48 unlocked for DoD. When do I unlock those? Random Majima encounters don't always unlock stuff for me.

West park is the park loaded with hobos. YAKUZA 2-3-4-5-6 SPOILERS
West park eventually gets destroyed and the new buildings/residences are built there.

Purgatory,
the underground casino/whorehouse/coliseum however remains where it is
uptill Yakuza 5 at least.

I'm confused. I thought Purgatory
was the name of the park. This park I'm at right now is loaded with hobos, just like the park from 0, yet it is a different park? Even though it seems to be in the same location as the previous park?

It's the same location man.
The PARK is called WEST PARK.

The underground stuff is all PURGATORY.

The Park has been there since Y0, but Purgatory wasn't there in Y0.

MAn, I'm on chapter 5, 40 sub done, but I need to grind colosseum point because I need to learn the tech from the old dude, I still need two items, and one of them is 10k. It's insane.

Should of asked this before, but is this like 0 where you can do all the sub stories at the end ? Are there some that are locked to specific chapters ?

wait until you reach the 8th tournament, you'll get a lot of point in this one
there's breakable walls, and you can fall, it's pretty easy to make your opponent fall, and you'll win lots of point (you can win 700 point only by making the first opponnent fall, even if you fail the rest, and over 2000 if you win)

Can anyone help me with the sub story and the kid who gets sick, im supposed to take him somewhere but have no clue where lol.
Take him near Theatre Square,
there'll be a couple that you can talk to. They'll tell you to go to the building next to a particular restaurant (forgot the name). Just keep following that line of buildings, the entrance will be that of a regular building with an elevator visible.

i believe it's suppon street (not sure of the name), just go left at the north end of tenkaichi street, it's on the right side of the street, there's a clinic there

It's like 0, you can do them whenever you please, and also after ending the main story.

are all the yakuza games like that?

this was really annoying, i had to search for like 10 minutes. i believe an NPC tells you it's on the east side of some street, and the building had a pinkish sign, with a hospital symbol? not sure. couldn't really google an answer, was trying every building

Yakuza 1 and 2 weren't like that. I believe you could miss substories. Not sure if Y3 was also like that.

But Y4 definitely didn't, and Y5 even had substories marked clearly on the map without any items so you could never miss them.

Ohhhh. Alright well then this leads back into my previous question
of since Kiryu has (retroactively) been here before, I'm wondering if there is an additional cutscene of him reflecting on the last time he was at the park?

Yakuza 3 has missable substories.

Even easier for arena points (late in the game) is once you have the Tiger Drop and Dragon style suitably powered up just do the last arena tournament over and over using basically just the Tiger Drop. Super quick and incredibly easy, I racked up a ton of points in just a few minutes doing it that way.

So what's the early verdict?

As much of a must-play as Yakuza 0, or a noticeable step back?
It's a shot-for-shot remake of the first one with new cutscenes added in with all the gameplay systems ripped from Y0. We knew what to expect.

Y0 is still the better game but that doesn't mean this is a game to skip out on if you haven't played Y1. If you HAVE played Y1 you CAN skip this one but the amount of backstory and character development added to Nishiki between Y0 and this game makes it worth playing all the same IMO.

As much of a must play, but dosent have as much content as Yakuza 0 for obvious reasons. Yakuza 0 is brand new game, Kiwami is a remake of the 1st Yakuza using alot of Yakuza 0 assets. So it may be considered a step back, but if you enjoy Yakuza main stories, then is even more of a must play than Yakuza 0, as to me the main story of Kiwami is much more important for the future games than the one told in Zero

Question about a substory called The Value of 2000 Yen.

Guide online says this guy in a grey coat at the batting center is suppose to start it at Chapter 5 but he has no option for me to start anything with him.

It's a step back especially narratively for me but I still enjoyed it quite a bit.
Gameplay wise I think it's kinda nice to have a more lean yakuza that isn't so chock full especially since that is also reflected in the price.

Do you mean the absolute start of the substory? You start that by going to the bar Vincent and talking to the guy sitting at the bar. I think I just played a round of pool and then he started talking to me.

Then it's straight forward from there.

Start At Vincent, Grey Coat guy gives you a 2000 Yen bill (you can only carry one at a time btw)

This could be trivially made an option to satisfy both of us. They already have the JP voice and English subtitles before they do English VA.

I really think Sega don't make enough money to do it. But if they did, it wouldn't be high quality.. I think this is one of the few games that should stay Japanese completely. There are some games where i think the english dub is awful, but i can see why they dubbed.

But for this, nah.. it just needs to be in japanese.

Who could you even get to that awesome deep bad-ass voice of kiryu?

Maybe once that new yakuza seiries starts we'll get dubs.

Help

I've fought Majima some number of times (four or five, I'd say). I got a call from his subordinate who said that Majima has hid himself to ambush Kiryu, but now they haven't seen him since.

Where is he?

I agree with pretty much everyone else

I started with Yakuza 3 back in like 2012, Yakuza 0 earlier this year I can already say is a better game, not just the story but the polish, but no way does that mean I'd skip out on the opportunity to play Kiwami.

So 0 is obviously > Kiwami (so far) but Kiwami is still worth $30.

Cheers for that

Haven't played Y1 before and loved Y0

I'm actually okay with there being less content. Plenty of stuff to play atm! Good to know this won't take as long as Y0, I'll pick it up asap now!

I hope not. It's not like a Final Fantasy game or some sci-fi setting, the series loses a part of it's identity with a dub even if it's incredibly well done.

I kinda have to agree with you. I know there is a subset of people who don't like reading subtitles, but I just can't imagine a dub for this series (maybe the first game harmed my opinion of that option...) but to me I could never imagine playing the games without the proper voice actors for each character. It'd be like watching Simpsons in another language for me...
