Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

Finished it.

51 hours with Majima at SSS rank, more than two third of the substories done and 78% on completion list.

It was fun. I didn't love it neatly as much as love Zero, but I did like Y1 back in the day so I naturally I enjoyed Kiwami as well. I gotta admit tho [Ending Spoilers]
that last cutscenes where it turns out that everyone knew what the other person thought/was gonna do, sounds really silly. The MIA guy knew that Sera was keeping Yumi safe, so he knew that Sera would betray him. But Sera also knew that the guy would know about his betrayal and had a backup plan. Then you have Nishiki who also knew the MIA guy was using him all along and...
come on, lol

Might take a break from the game for a while and go back to playing other things before attempting the plat. I might actually do Climax Battles tho, since I love those but we'll see.

I'm not done with Kiwami, but the one thing that bums me out is the lack of a memorable soundtrack. It's not BAD, per sè, but not even close to the tracks used for the 2nd and 4th
Kuze fights
in Zero.

damn... that was a killer fight. i had to literally drain all my health drinks i fully stock piled up.
i got lucky so i cant' suggest a strategy. but i had some heat drinks reserved for when the bosses start to rejuvenate. those heat actions take off alot of boss HP

I can't imagine how frustrating it will be if I had to fight them in very hard difficulty. Especially those who keeps dodging a lot.

I'm not too worried about that. Chapter 9 is
The car chase and non of those things apply there. The car chase in 0 was utter bs and I basically lucked out on headshotting a ton of the drivers by also not aiming where it would make sense to aim and managed to beat it with a sliver of car hp.

I doubt Kiwami is any better judging by my normal run it might even be worse since the guys on the car don't seem to be able to get headshot dmg.

I just finished that chapter,
the car chase has to be my least favorite part in this game and in 0, I really hate the truck part where the guy keeps shooting the rocket launcher while being shot at the same time.

Meh still need Slugger Majima to butt into a fight - been running around for 20 mins, two Majima fights and both it's Breaker D: bad luck today

I just brought
Haruka to a bar and it unlocked a cutscene with Jackal Yagisawa
, I don't think I was meant to come here, are there other secret cutscenes?

You know, now that it's been hours since I beat the game and I've been thinking about it, I think the music is the aspect of the remake that disappointed me the most.

Before 0, I considered 1 to be the game in the series to have the best music, and Kiwami... Doesn't have a bad soundtrack, a handful of the remixes are quite competent, but they lack the style and energy of the originals, and some remixes barely resemble the original tracks and are completely unrecognizable.

I mean, come on, the original Funk Goes On, Son of a Gun, Scarlet Scar and Intelligence for Violence were fantastic. I think the only ones that do the originals justice are Tension and The end of the Drama.

And then there's the completely botched opening. Had this been any of the other games it'd have been fine, but Receive You, the Y1 opening is an extremely iconic song that is referenced and remixed through the series many times. It appears twice in 0 alone and a different version of it is Majima's recurrent battle theme. They could have used the excellent Yakuza 0 remix that's used for the unlockable Dragon style and it'd have been even better than the real Kiwami opening, IMO.

The special fights where he butts in aren't random, they always happen in the same place and you always get the same type of Majima. I'm not sure where slugger shows up though, sorry.

Wow, you can definitely tell what is Kiwami content and what is old content sometimes.

Chapter 5 spoilers:
"Majima is all like "I haven't seen you in awhile Kiryu-chan!" and the only thing I can think of is "Dude, we met like 20 minutes ago. You tried to sell me cheap whiskey and shit like Stag, and then challenged me to a break dance outside. Fuck, even in game time it was probably only like a couple of hours!

On the other hand, this did provoke me to watch some of the PS2 dub of these scenes.

Holy fuck, who the fuck asked Mark Hamil to do a subdued take on Majima, and holy hell this dub is terrible everywhere else

Just finished it. Overall 0 > Kiwami, but that might not be fair since this is essentially a 12 year old game? 0's story was just better and had way more funny weird shit.

I think the Majima stuff ended up being weird, it was just jarring every time he showed up as part of the story as an antagonistic character... then he's dancing in a club in his 0 karaoke costume. Just an off juxtaposition.

Man, (Ch10 Spoiler)
Reina's betrayal and death
hit me kind of hard. I was fully expecting
the death
to happen, but I was figuring it would be a Yakuza 3 or 4 thing, not in the first game.

I have to say, correct me if I'm wrong, I found upgrading abilities in this game much easier than Y0. Fighting the bosses and the Majima Everywhere Mechanic fights gives me more experience points compared to Y0 where you have to spend a lot of yen to upgrade.

Question: For the Dragon of Dojima ability, there are two abilities I want to unlock but the requirement for those is to read subordinate's email. So when do I get to read the subordinate's email?

You get emails periodically as you beat Majima. Which skills are you missing?

Yeah, the upgrade system is way better than Zero. Not locking parts of upgrade area through minigame is a plus for me as it allows me to access some moves I want (like defend and counter in brawler) asap.

For the subordinate's email requirement:
  • Dragon's Speed Reborn
  • Finishing Hold Reborn
  • Yellow Dragon Spirit
  • Dragon's Slow Burn 1
  • Kick Combo Reborn

Others can probably help you better but I know for certain that Dragon's Speed Reborn comes from
pocket circuit. Try walking past Fighter towards the parts shop.

Other things that might have an effect off the top of my head:
talk to the Mesuking professor until Majima joins
,
the last fight in the coliseum
,
bump into a random guy in front of Millennium Tower
,
spend time at Shine Kyabakura
.

Finished the game, and was nice to review the story of the 1st Yakuza, i already had forgoten alot of details. I actually like the story of Kiwami much more than the one from Zero. Maybe because i already played all other yakuzas (except 6) and know how important are some of the events that happen in this title for the rest of the saga.

Also great to see the Legend mode carry over everething from the "Clear Save" file, except the subquests. So it will be a walk in the park to beat the game in Legend mode.

Now time to go in Premium Adventure mode to complete the rest of subquests and minigames :)

I love this series.

Also great work from Atlus in the localisation of the game. I laughted more in the DILF sub quest than i usualy do in an entire comedy movie.

I know Speed is for
pocket racing, you have to beat him in three races
. Another of those is
Mesuking, two fights
. But both encounters won't trigger until you receive the corresponding messages, which you get as you rank up in Majima Everywhere.

Slow Burn is for having Mad Dog Majima interrupt a fight. That one triggers near the beef bowl place when you're in calm state and hear "Kiryu-chan!" around the area.

Definitely play 2 and order 3 if you don't own/haven't played it already. It'll all probably take you significantly less time than downloading AND installing any of the other two.

Up to rank A in Majima Everywhere. I'll probably finish the story once i am a fully powered Kiryu with the dragon style just for a more epic feeling.

As much as I love Yakuza, I don't think I'm gonna bother with this Majima Everywhere stuff. Just gonna end the game and call it a day.

About a week before Kiwami came out, I found out about Ishin's English Translation Guide and got immediately hyped about finally playing it. I'm actually slightly rushing through Kiwami a bit just so I can get closer to playing Ishin afterwards.

It would be cool to discuss Kenzan/ishin while playing through them for the first time. If a bunch of people are planning on starting these we could chat about it in the the community thread.

I've been procrastinating starting them for quite a while now.

What is climax battles?
Never tried it in Zero and Kiwami.

At work now so can't try.

They're a set of battle challenges with some gimmicky win conditions. Popular ones are beat x under y time. But then there is beat x without getting downed or beat x in a specific style only with your weak moves. Stuff like that generally the design ranges from straighforward easy to unbelievably cheap frustrating inducing.

I'm using the KHHsubs guide to go through Kenzan. I'm not too far in, but I find I can't play for too long as switching between my tablet and the game kinda annoys me.

i'm going to try and squeeze in kenzan (and maybe dead souls) soon so I can put my PS3 away. But I've still got a few other games from this year to play - Horizon, Utawarerumono (both of them), Zelda and of course I just started Kiwami.

Always held off on Kenzan cause I was lazy to play it with a guide.

Do any of available guides for Kenzan and Ishin include translated story dialogue or is their only purpose to tell you what to do to progress?

Feels weird that I've played every Yakuza release, even Dead Souls, but haven't been able to give these a shot despite having such cool premises... And well, there's the Black Panther games...

Yeah, his stuff can get a bit tiring. But if you one day wanted to come back and do them, remember that Tiger Drop is your friend.
Fuck, I just can't stay away.

Anybody know of a Japanese guide perhaps that details where to get the mesuking cards? I've found quite a lot but still not enough to battle the professor.

Edit: nvm, found it.

Oh I see, thanks.

Okay so I went into a local store and looked for Yakuza 0. I was told it was out of stock for 2 weeks already. I figured I should just buy Kiwami since the sales person said demand was high for Kiwami as well.

My question is will it be detrimental to my experience if I start with Kiwami first? I'm willing to just shelf my Kiwami copy and wait for Zero to get stocks.
