Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

I'm sure you can't get locked out of anything. I'm pretty sure you can go back and do the encounter again,
or hostess(?) Majima will be roaming around

We've been roaming around for a while now, yeah. We haven't run into that version of him him and the event wouldn't trigger again even after trying a while. I'm guessing it might be a time thing but it sucks being temporarily locked out of something that seems vital.

If we go into the bar, he's not there- it was the rank D or C email fight and it means we don't have the enhanced dragon dodge. Oops. And, well, after trying to get him to spawn again for a while, he's on break again.

I think I must be going crazy here because as much as I've enjoyed Yakuza 3,4,0 and even the original 1 on PS2 I'm finding this a real drag so far.

The first few hours are so slow to get going and so full of pointless busy work (don't even get me started on that ring quest at the start...) And the majima stuff seems so shoehorned in it's almost painful.

Also every time I open the menu it wants me to upgrade abilities. Has it ever considered I might be saving up for something?

I'm going to keep going though... I can't seriously say that Zero is on my list for GOTY contender and not give this more of a go but damn, it's really not grabbing me atm.

Just got to the end of chapter 3 and genuinely thought I was supposed to lose that fight at one point, the boss just kept grabbing me and then I'd struggle free, give him a few hits and then get grabbed again. 20 minutes of bordem and button mashing out of grabs later and apparently that was how that was supposed to go?

Sorry for the rant, but after how much I enjoyed Zero I just felt a vent was needed!

I'm a couple of hours in, and I can understand this sentiment. I'm only enjoying the combat and story in the cutscenes. A lot of other stuff (like that ring quest) feels like a PS2 game from a bygone era.

I haven't been able to wander around freely either, so I think the game will be fine once I get to do so.

Kiwami does feel different from y0 but I actually like that about it. I adored y0 but I'm glad that there is just enough different to make it feel like a somewhat different game.

I like how much harder it is to get money in this game, how the leveling up system is, how eating gives you exp and the game, so far, seems a bit harder. Probably just because I have experience with y0 but I am actually making use of even the crappier weapons.

I am almost done with the game and have just started Chapter 10. I did a completely different approach to this play than with 0. Unlike y0 where I did almost every substory before beating the game, I actually just try to do 3 or 4 before moving on to the main story. I still have almost half of the substories done but without the major burnout feeling. I'm glad I don't have to feel like I permanently missed something with these games.

So i have every entries of the fighters list in the coliseum (hannya man included) but the completion list says there's 25 and i'm at 24/25.

Who could i be missing?

Definitly. I've said this before, but the first 3 chapters were not so great. I'd go as far to call the entire 3rd chapter downright terrible. It gets a lot better afterwards.

It looks like Majima can
randomly photo bomb you in photo booths
at arcades without any notice. Just saw it in a video YT suggested me and it's one of the most hilarious things in the game due to how out of nowhere it is hahaha.

Pretty cool that I completed Majima Everywhere entirely without experiencing this (looks like it gives you Majima exp too). I have to try it out myself, I wonder if something in particular triggers it.

Moonfrog, you actually did good in playing them in that order. I mean, yes, it's better to play Yakuza 1 - 5 before 0 to really get all the love put into the title, but if you're having the PS4 releases as your starting point, it's better to start with 0 and see Kiwami as its sequel.

Kiwami has many callbacks to 0 after all, and admittedly the original Yakuza lacked a lot of development for characters that got a lot of exposure in 0 for the first time. For example,
Nishiki's downfall cutscenes weren't a thing in the original and you're still supposed to care about him betraying you despite just being some traitorous idiot you never heard of before. 0 made him a very likeable character and Kiwami later showed you what drove him to do what he did. Same applies to Reina, Dojima, Shimano and Kazama as well (Shinji too, kinda) since there's barely any context for you to care about them in Y1.

So yeah, as funny as it may sound, I'm guessing Kiwami is the first time many long time fans have ever cared about most stuff in the Y1 story, haha

It still feels quite weaker than 0 of course, but there's only so much they can fix from a 12 years old game being remade on a budget. And well, 0 is the absolute best at everything in the series, haha.

That's interesting; glad they added what they did then too. I just assumed those were always there. But yeah I liked Nishiki a lot in Zero.
Particularly loved the scene where he took you to the woods to kill you. Such a good scene imo
.

In any case though, I still liked the game. It just didn't hit that unlooked for high bar that 0 hit for me.

I liked that a substory character in 0 makes a cameo here in the Dance Club in Theatre square or whatever. The
cult
leader who was
collecting money to hook people up
. Or am I wrong and did he have an appearance in the original Yakuza and make a cameo in 0?

No you had it right the first time.

Substory characters returning for the next game is not a new thing, happens all the time. One of the substory characters in Yakuza 1 plays a larger role in the main story in Yakuza 2 (and Yakuza 4 as well, I wanna say?)

Got it.

Yeah these substories have been so good. I'm 42/78 and just taking my time before i jump to chp 9. its funny how the stories in any given substory can get me behind these characters moreso than most full fledged games. i think a lot of the charm stems from the simplistic production values (animation, music, etc) that make the most out of their limitations to convey emotions.

Game Theory: The Majima Everywhere system is a representation of the torment and stress Majima's seemingly never ending presence produces in Kazuma. He's actually in a coma.

After Hokuto ga Gotoku we're getting a Twin Peaks crossover. It makes perfect sense.

"I'll just do one more substory.... *2 hours later*"

Got passed chapter 10:
Sucks that Reina died, she's one of my favorite female characters in the series.

I have a question on the pocket fighter:
I raced against majima twice, and the third time his pocket racer goes really fast, can someone tell me what comoponents I need to use against him?

Need help on Majima everywhere, I defeated Majima at Mesuking, got an email from Nishida saying Majima found a Mesuking card in the street and that he was going to destroy Kiryu.

Only problem is now outside of him roaming around the streets I get no more unique email encounters. I am at SSS rank only need to 3 more of these email scenarios to complete Kiryu's moveset. Checking the arcades constantly and nothing.

You know this is a budget remake when they didn't even bother adding fish to the empty aquarium tanks.

Did the hostess thing tonight and it's kind of weird to be on the other side of it compared to Majima's hostess club in Zero. Their hand signals were sloppy. I did think it was cool that they made Rina
a lesbian (or bi, whatever she identifies as)
. Though she was still pretty boring. The woman at Jewel at least felt more like talking to one of the hostesses at Majima's club.

Saw this on reddit:

Beat him like a hour ago with this set: Ultra Slim Tires, Ultra Rubber Frame, Ultra Godspeed Motor, Ultra Boost Gear, High Capacity Battery, Heavy Suspension, Bumper Plate. I think you need to beat all tournaments to unlock some of the stuff I used but with this set he really is a piece of cake.

edit: I can confirm now, this set up works.

On another note:

i just beat him ^ for the second time in Pocket, and unlocked the trophy "Master Body and Soul" even though I had done the requirements for the trophy like half an hour before hand before I even went to the Pocket Circuit o_O

Anyone else had a bug like this?

Did you talk to the professor when you entered the arcade?

Oh feck, I forgot all about the Yakuza remake! Well, I forgot it had released in August.

I absolutely adore the series, put up there with The Witcher, Metal Gear Solid, and SoulsBorne series as my most recent, enjoyable gaming series. The thing is though, I've burned myself out on it. A few months ago I emulated Y1, fell in love with the series, emulated Y2, bought 3,4, & 5 on Amazon and completed them all back to back.

Then I jumped straight into 0, and about two thirds of the way I struggled to continue it. Did eventually beat it mind you.

Quick question, does the Majima everywhere system grate after a while?

Sometimes when you're going about your business, him suddenly appearing can be annoying, about as annoying as all the other random encounters (but a little more due to his higher health and stuff).

But outside of that, I still love it. All the ways he can show up. :D

I forgot how boring the hostess stuff is

Took a guide, blind pressing bouton when doing other thing. Took me 30 min, yeah a real waste of time !

The Majima sensor garbage is driving me insane

I really enjoy Nishiki's flashback scenes though. Feels more like 0 than the actual story scenes to me

It really make the story way more enjoyable. In the original game on the ps2, i was like "ok i get it, this is the bad guy", but why he became 'that' evil, we never really know. This game make everything more clear. Y0 also help a lot to attach to that character.

Those Nishiki flashback scenes are a new addition in Kiwami, and weren't in the original game. The original had very little character development for Nishikiyama-kun.

Yeah I figured as much after a while
Not that they are oscar worthy or anything but they feel different than the rest and closer to the direction and emotional weight that was everywhere in 0. I enjoyed that a lot.

I also really like Nishiki's voice actor. That scene in which he's apologizing to Kashiwagi was great

Sometimes a little sleep is all you need managed to EX out Haruka onto climax battles(I'm on Melee Proving ground 5 and staff dude is annoying the shit out of me) Legend for last with all imports.

With the Climax battles it's usually you get there if you're stubborn enough still hope there is nothing to offensively bad. I remember in 0 struggling with one of the don't get hit at all and in yakuza 5 I still vividly remember one with Shinada one an insanely tight time limit against some truly infuriating enemies only having access to very basic combos.

I did all the sub stories for Y1. Am I having a brain fart?

It's not a particularly large or memorable role but it is there.

The person in question is
Dr. Emoto
.

Still a larger role than "shows up in substory that half of the players might not play or figure out".

This quest was so annoying. I remembered going there in Yakuza 4 but not where exactly it was. I had to walk directly to the entrance of his office and the whole time
I'm carrying a dying child
.
