Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

Finished the main story, plot really picked up towards the endgame after meandering around a bit too much for my liking so it mostly finished on a high.

But bloody hell if the penultimate boss battle isn't just one of the most disastrous messes I've played in years, it even goes so far as to bend the rules of the game,
if you take Jingu's health down to the end before taking out the gun mooks (before they revive as knife happy dudes) he just no sells your beatdown and doesn't lose his last smidgen of health which is plain silly.
.

Really now I just want to go back to 0 and do some sidequests, I've been holding off knowing that this remake was coming later in the year.

Every time Rina texts me, I go straight to her. She takes priority over everything #1. The only time I don't go is if the mission I'm on doesn't let me.

I'm currently stuck on two Majima skills:

Essence of Mad Dog: Chokehold - for this one I need to beat Officer Majima. I fought him once, lost, then never saw this version again. Anyone know how to find him?

Dragon's Slow Burn 1 - this is a skill that comes from an email riddle, but I forget which email now and I don't know how to find it, any ideas?

Thanks

I think i will do another couple of play sessions and i'll stop playing.
This was my first Yakuza game, i was scared that the franchise would be incredibly tedious to play that's why it took me so much time to try it but i have to say that everything flows egregiously well, the amount of freedom is remarkable and despite everything is either a fetch quest or a fight doing this quests always feels right and almost never a chore.

Story is really round of the mill japanese stuff with various classic archetypes, nothing transcendental but serviceable, i'm still mad that
Nishiki and Reina died, bad boy Nishiki looked super cool and i wanted to see more of him, Shinji too was cool... oh well what can you do...

The one single thing i didn't like about this game is the way it handles the Dragon fighting style, the Majima Everywhere is absolutely brilliant and i loved everything about it but it really should have been that after you get SSS it unlocks all the skill tree where you are free to use your points to max it out.
It's absurd that 10 hours after i've completed every other skill tree i still lack 8 things for the Dragon style.

All i wanted from this game was to give me a glimpse of Japan's culture with all its quirks and it absolutely delivered, i could spend thousands of words on how as soon as i got the chance i spent hours upon hours on Pocket Circuit which is a parody of Tamiya's Mini 4WD and how that took me back to my childhood when i played with them or how i recognized that Mesuking is nothing other than the parody of Mushiking without even mentioning all the actually licensed magazines in the store.
This game talks to me in various ways and i couldn't be happier that i bit the bullet on it, now i can't wait for Kiwami 2 while in the meantime i'll try to snag a copy of 0.

I have trying to decide between this game and Yakuza 0. Kiwami is about 20 dollars cheaper new and I am not sure which one to get.

Won't walking in front of Millennium Tower carrying weapons again do the trick?

And for slow burn, you have to get into a fight that he'll interrupt using his Mad Dog style and win, it triggers in front of the beef bowl place.

Totally agree. Also the komaki training is horribly gated as you need to grind at the colliseum.

Just started Chapter 4 story-wise, got 19 hours on the clock and 47.40% completion. Lmao. FINALLY going to continue the story now.

Any way to cheese/cheat/skip chapter 9 (the car chase)? What a horrible experience.

Edit: Just turned down the difficulty. I don't care about trophies anyway.

Finished the game a lil bit over an hour ago. Almost 37h with about 70,31% completion. I don't think i'll be going for 100% due to all the minigames requirement. After a break i'll go back to it to at least clear all the substories and beat Amon.

I've been on chapter 4 for the past 15 hrs. So much stuff to do around every corner.

Oh yeah, it's easily been 15 hours for me too. But I'm continuing the story now. Pretty much the only things I haven't done that I could conceivably still do are the bowling quest, karaoke (having husband do these two as he's much better at them), the Japanese board games I have no interest in, and misc CP. Everything else has been done. Pocket Circuit, Mesuking as much as I can at this point, hostesses, all substories except bowling, Majima Everywhere at max for this point, all Mesuking cards and locker keys I can get right now. The side stuff is way more interesting to me than the main game in this series.

Just finished the story, haven't played Y1 in years, I think the new nishiki stuff is awesome but the regular scenarios / design / animations ported over from 2007 do kind of feel dated, that said it was still awesome and now i'm getting ready for my KIWAMI EXTREEEEEEME RUUUUUUUN. I hope KIWAMI 2 gets even more budget because Yakuza is awesome.

Oh you can bet on it, Kiwami 2 will run on the Y6 engine, explorable Osaka, playable majima and the extra stuff like new substories, etc. I never played 2 but many says it has the best story so i'm not surprised they're going all out on it.

I wonder how excessive the majima stuff is in this game. There's tons of trophies involving majima everywhere time.

Very. I love it but I like the character. I can't imagine people who are experiencing the character for the first time and havimg to fight him a ton

Difficulty: Normal
Play Time: 46:43
Number of Street Battles: 157
Majima Everywhere Rank: SSS
Completion: 57.81%

I feel empty inside now that it's over.

I was having a lot of fun with all of the styles from Yakuza 0.

Right up until I finally got my favorite attack, Tiger Drop. I have rarely switched from Dragon of Dojima since.

Now I just need to wait for Kiwami 2.

I know how you feel. Not because I thought that the game was amazing but because it means half a year till a new Yakuza game (we are drowning in Yakuza games)

I think I'm gonna plug in my ps3 again and replay Yakuza 4.

This is me, too. I might go back and replay the other games because I can't stand the thought of waiting until March for Yakuza 6 right now.

But boy did Tiger Drop completely suck the pathos out of the final boss battle. It was over in like two seconds.

Majima you only have one eye, how can you beat me everytime at bowling

Edit: At least losing means getting rewarded with that dance. Still laughing after 4 times

They went waaaaaayy overboard with Majima everywhere. Christ.

Unavoidable fights when you just want to do a sub-story or go play a mini-game get old fast. I'm only halfway through B and I'm sick of it. And I'm seeing in this thread it goes up to SSS? What an obnoxious grind.

Hmm I have bad news... The only ones that go away after you reach SSS are the scripted events. Everything else stays (Majima walking around town looking for you, surprise unavoidable encounters, etc).

Having only played Yakuza 0 and now this, while having watched a LP of Yakuza 4, I'm glad they've beefed up the writing chops.

So how do you actually pull out weapons you've equipped from your inventory? In Y0 I believe it was pressing down on the d-pad, but that's the 4th style here. I looked in the Notebook, nothing about how to use inventory weapons...

You double-tap the direction based on the style you're using currently. Example, you press up for brawler and you press up again to take out the weapon, same with rush, beast, dragon.

Am I the only one who had zero issue with Chapter 9? I mean I didn't like it as much but the difficulty on Normal was pretty easy for me. Completed it with no crashes.

I have SSS rank for Majima and honestly he is piss easy by now with the Tiger Drop.

Most difficulty claim comes from those who play on Hard, idk how different Normal is vs Hard but yeah.

Ohh okay, thanks. You'd think they would explain that somewhere.

I appreciate that the game tries to humanize homeless people. I had no idea there were actual tent cities of homeless in Japanese cities though. Seems like it's gotten worse since the bubble days, at least if Zero and Kiwami are historically accurate enough to go by.

Seems like I'm gonna play through the game today. Just gotta fight Majima two more times, gotta flirt with the hostess from JeweL and then I'll go straight to the final stretch.

I was going into this game thinking "Well, it's Yakuza 1 with more side stories, probably gonna breeze through it in 30 hours or so".
I'm no 60 hours in and will probably finish it in an addition 5 or so hours.
It's amazing just how much new content there is. It's so much better than the original it's not even funny. Even the substories are so much more interesting than the original ones, and that includes those that were in the PS2 original.
It probably helps that the Japanese voice acting is simply brilliant whereas the English dub was okay, but not great.

Really looking forward to playing Yakuza 2 directly after I finish this one. And then 3. And then 4. And 5. And even Dead Souls. Should be done with the series just in time for Yakuza 6 to arrive.

In Yakuza 4 and 5, you play as a
n ex
homeless guy.

I'm halfway through Yakuza 0, getting Kiwami next week.
And if by the end of this year, Kiwami 2 english is not announced, I will just get the Chinese version.

I don't have access to a PS3 and I believe RPCS3 doesn't work well for 3, 4, 5?
Really want to get into 6 on day one.
Should I skip to 6 and hope for remaster/ports of 3, 4 ,5 or Should I just watch it from Youtube?

You should youtube 5 only. 3 and 4's story have no effect on the story of 6.

If you want to focus in side stuff and avoid battles, equip the Beads of Good Fortune (dont remember where i got them). You will not get random battles around town while the item is equiped, and Majima will not walk around town too. But he will still do surprize attacks, but i found it to be less frequent while using the beads.

Before last item on the second CP item list.

First list is useless anyway :D
