Yakuza KIWAMI |OT| Translator's Note: "KIWAMI" means "EXTREME"

I remember one thing that disappointed near the very end of the game, because it's such a missed opportunity (Yakuza 4 spoilers)
when the bomb blows up and money starts raining, the cutscene zooms into some homeless man who I totally assumed would be Akiyama but definitely wasn't. Why the hell didn't they retcon him into Akiyama? The whole thing feels like that was the plan but they forgot

wow! i love the dead souls part in this game =)

Sooo good.

Staying true to the original I guess. They remained loyal to the original game, perhaps to a fault.

But then they stuffed Majima into everything so I can't say anything for sure.

Was learning new techniques and got Demonic Shadow which says you can go behind a dude by pressing X while holding down the L stick in Rush Style. I can't seem to get this to work, what exactly should I be doing? Can I be holding down R1 to focus on the guy and should I be pressing down on the Left stick and hit x when I am about to get hit?

Disappointed that the Go Shop substory didn't open up the Go game to play. So many obscure games in Zero and this, and yet the one iconic Japanese game I'd really like to learn isn't in Yakuza. :/

That Shinohara story though...maybe one of the best ones I've seen so far, Zero included.

Erm, what the fuck is up with billiards? 99% of the time Kiryu won't actually take the shot when I pull the right stick back and then release it. The stick just resets to the default position.

This is unplayable for me.

Why am I not surprised

I tried to do this as well, but never got it working. I remember doing it in Zero, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

It doesn't work, you can manually manouver behind your enemy and he will get disoriented [only weak punks though], but there's no specific input that will do the animation upon executing it.

You need to be really close. Try doing it directly after a L1 Guard/Dodge. Thats how it started to work for me.

I could never get the hang of it in 0 either. I'm sure there must be some trick to it, but I can only ever seem to smash the cue ball at full power.

An animated demonstration of the Majima Everywhere system.
it's...a very accurate demonstration
OHHHHHHH!
Well yeah, it's Christmas!
word! of course

okay, I beat the game last night. and I have to say, man...Yakuza 0 was a much, much better game/experience than this was. The gameplay was of course fun and so was a lot of the substories. But the campaign? Worth the $60 to support the series but if I have to be dead honest it was quite disappointing.

True to my Zero playthrough i am doing everything before even going to Serena. Majima is doing a great job at making me feel like i can take on the world, feels great to barely win.
Also i just love seeing beast mode Kiryu charge up his drop kick, it's so funny to me.

Thank god finished all melee battles now only proving grounds and ultimate battles left.
Then Legend. The plat is so close and yet so far that's what it feels like.

Edit: still getting trashed on proving grounds 7. Dunno man Yakuza never ever had great lock on and somehow they decide to make a challenge that depends on lock on + requires a mechanical exploit to beat. I just don't understand why they would do that.

I'm at the last chapter, can I continue doing the side stories and Majima fights after finishing the main game?

As I've avoided most optional stuff before, I've been stuck here for more then 10 hours and it might be time to see how the story pans out.

Kiwami was $30?

Yes

I think I hate the Majima anywhere system.

It is so god damn annoying to hear "Kiryuu chan!" and look around everywhere yet not be able to find him at all. It also breaks the pacing of the game quite a bit.

Ya it's 30$ retail
I think it's because he bought two copies (one for a friend).

Also, the game came out at the standard 60$-esque retail price in Japan when it was originally released there.

Yes, you can continue playing the game after ending the main story to mop up any side-quests/to just fuck around. You can also change your outfit when your in Premium Adventure mode!

Still got quite a way to go with Zero at the moment but looking forward to playing Kiwami after. Hard to keep up with the backlog, with so many great games coming out.

Also got my pre-order in for the Yakuza 6 Premium Edition on Amazon UK today.

Just did the
funeral
part. Holy shit, this is amazing.

Only gripe with the game so far is in cutscenes, sometimes the character models stutter, its jarring, but can deal with it I suppose.

Nice, I think that's what I'm going to do. I assumed you play Premium Adventure if you start a new game after finishing it, this sounds like it's what happens after you're done with the main story.

You're thinking of New Game+

Finishing the game unlocks Legend Difficulty, the option to play with New Game+ and Premium Adventure Mode which is just...clear up side stuff and fuck around mode.

I think I preferred the skill acquiring system in 0.

Half the time I don't know what skill goes to what style in this game.

same. this remake's accomplished the impossible: it's made me hate majima! :) ...

i don't mind the scripted events (tho they also clash with the narrative). but the never-ending random encounters? fuck'm. waaaaay over-done, & boring...

Oh ok, still easier to go into each style and buy stuff with money like in 0.
This system is what's used for every Yakuza game BUT every other Yakuza game also has just the one style per character so it was never difficult to grasp.

I see why it can feel cobbled together because Y0's progression was clearly designed with the "money handles everything" system in mind but this feels like they had to implement the same styles only with the classic progression system so it feels confusing and a bit arbitrary at times.

Fuck me, I'm playing Kiwami, and I got "I'm Gonna Make You Mine" in my head. Song isn't even in the damn game to my knowledge. Fuckin' Miracle Johnson. I think the Debolah substory made me think of it.

At over 50% completion now in Chapter 6. The substories in this series are just so damn good.

I still have Judgement from 0 in my head to this day. I don't know why. Probably because 0 almost started with that and I wasn't prepared.
I think I can't look at Kiryu without remembering the song now.

BREAKIN' ZE LAAAAAAWWW

At least I should be glad it's not that Cinderella song instead

Edit: shit I have it now

Guys I am almost near the end of the game and have 3 substories and 3 Majima Everywhere stuff left to wrap. I finished the game because I needed the kid for 2 of the substories but I am having trouble with Majima Everywhere. I have never been able to encounter the Police one even though I have weapon equipped and keep roaming around the city. I have also tried going to the first location of his encounter but no luck. So I am locked out of 2 DOD abilities.

The other issue is with MesuKing battle with Majima as I haven't received any message to trigger it and I have no idea why or how to do it. After I get these 3, I will have just 1 ability left which needs these 3 in the first place.

I can't get Majima to show up at the Pocket Racer stadium, am I missing anything in triggering that?

edit: guess you needed to actually do pocket racing to trigger it, only triggers after beating the second race
