No big deal, really, but I found it for less than half the price of a new game (If a GC game costs US$50, then I suppose it's about US$20 equivalent). I've never played Legend of Zelda or Adventure of Link, so yay for me!

(not sure if I'm linking images correctly or not...)

And all playable on the cube (yeah, I'm missing the original SNES cart too - but I had that thieved off me).

Where's the Minish Cap?

Strangely enough, I don't have it. Either it hasn't been released here yet (despite it being out in Europe), or it came out in small numbers and slipped under the radar.

I refuse to believe the latter.

So...

Are the NES Zeldas any good?

Nice one :)

I got my PAL copy off ebay for about 100$ australian all up...then they finally decided to release it here as a freebie with new gamecubes....bah

Not really, no.

You know, I was mighty tempted to do the same - even considered buying a new cube just to get it (I did see a few brand new cubes on an online auction site that were from people buying the bundle for the Zelda disc and flogging off the console itself).

Minish Cap hasn't been released in Australia yet for some reason, and there isn't a release date. =\

I love the original Legend of Zelda, but hated it at first because I thought it was too hard and didn't have a clue what I was doing, I was just wondering around killing enemies, but I kept playing it and grew to love it, it's my favourite 2D Zelda. Zelda 2 however.. I just couldn't get into that.

I got my PAL Zelda Collectors Edition sent to me for free from NAL after I sent in two barcodes/reciepts from Pokemon Channel and 1080 Avalanche. I had to cut up the boxes but it was worth it.

What the hell? That's just retarded...ah well i don't have the money to buy it right now anyway, but a lot of people do. What possible reason do they have for not releasing this OR the DS this year? Whenever i think of Nintendo Australia i just imagine this single guy in a suit standing in his office which is also a port-o-potty at a construction site, using the sink for a desk.

Minish Cap is excellent, and this is coming from someone that wasn't all that impressed with OoA/OoS. Probably the best 2D Zelda yet. Import it if Australia ain't getting it.

I got mine for like $10 with one year free subscription of Club Nintendo :D

We need a Mario Collection.

Give us a Metroid collection!

Well, actually, just give me Super Metroid.

Nice seeing them all rounded up together :)

I'm also glad to be someone who owns all current Zelda titles and have respect for that fact.

the NES zeldas are very good, and very non-linear.

Congrats. No GC owner should be without this disc.

Now if only they'd release an upgraded version that had a better port of Majora's Mask...:/

Lol the only reason i even have a GC was they had this game packaged with a GC for $79.99 @ wal-mart the day after thanksgiving last year heh. Figured it was a good deal since i would have had no problem paying $50 for the game had i had a GC, the fact that i got a GC thrown in for $30 was a hell of a deal.

A word of advice for playing the original Zelda: You'll need to download the instruction booklet and map.

"You're crazy!" you say. "Zelda is easy!"

Yes, the game is not that difficult, BUT without it, you will be 100% lost after 5 minutes. It is one of the few games I've ever played that REQUIRE you use the instruction booklet and world map (which came with the original game) just to get through it. Fortunately you can find these things online pretty easily.

the freedom to get lost, and the ability to do some dungeons out of order, not to mention all the hidden doors... that's some fun stuff. If you're going to cheat, just don't bother at all, since you're missing what makes the game worthwhile

Impressions!

Ok, so I've given Legned of Zelda a five minute whirl. It's really strange to be just sort of 'stabbing' in a four directional manner. Also walking. Interesting to really note the roots of the Zelda series.

I'm annoyed at the crappy way menus are driven (ie. with the Y/select button) insead of witht he D-pad. It was the same on Metroid, i think. I'm so glad some kind of consensus was reached in terms of that (with A being select, B being return, and options chosen by D-pad - select became just another button in most games). I wonder if it's even requested in GC development kits and stuff now. I wish PS2 programmers would do the same - in one game X maybe select, but in another it might be back, and O is select. WTH?

Wow, this is like some kind of videogame archaelogical trip for me.

I'm playing Z64 on the Zelda collection, first time through that game... Honestly, I like some of the dungeons in it but as a whole, I find parts really annoying. The battle with the water temple's boss was just awful, as are fights against flying enemies (the whole Z targeting system is obnoxious for me, I hope they refined it in the sequels).

But I thought the NES Zelda 1 was amazing. It's such an abstract game and you have no clue WTF is going on, they just throw you into this world and you have to figure your way through it, barely any story to speak of, no BS in this game. Probably my favorite game ever when it came out (when I was little)

I wish I got that from Nintendo deal before they stopped it. Now, I have to save up for Ebay. However, I played it while I had GameFly, and enjoyed what it offered. It sucks that someone borrowed Majora's Mask, but never returned it. Now I HAVE to get this disk or an expensive cart.

-This post brought to you by Skimmy McSkimmermann, waiting for the US release of Minish Cap.
