You can beat The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild without finishing the story

I like it, because if you end up finishing the game without seeing everything, that gives you a reason to do another playthrough. And each playthrough might have you discovering stuff you didn't on the previous one. The world is so massive, it's bound to happen.

It sounds like it'll be the Zelda game with easily the most replay value.

Not everyone wants (or has the time) to replay though.

my guess is that there's multiple endings,

go straight to final boss = simple ending

finish the story = true ending

otherwise there would be no point in doing the story if the ending doesn't change.

well you can't say they play it safe with zelda

playing it safe kinda made sales fall so i guess taking a risk wouldn't hurt, especially if the changes are good and create hype.

Sounds crazy. I wonder if you'd actually be able to BEAT the final boss at the start though. Master Sword and/or Light Arrows aren't needed?

I don't think this is entirely true. I still think you have to get all the runes and the paraglider to access the final area. At that point, its up to your skills and gear.
I don't think They would lie about this. Perhaps the stuff you get is essential for the master sword and making the game easier

I never have been so hyped for an game like this since I was a kid. No wonder there is no direct, there are so many stuff they want to introduce here. Wow.

If assuming Ganon is the final boss, he'd end up 1-shotting you without the proper "endgame" gear. Would be amazing if someone ends up doing it and succeeding.
Do you know what a Soul Level 1 play through is? Well if you do then those kinds of people will go towards BOTW

I mean...good luck trying to get there right off the bat, I guess.

Wow, that's a pretty radical concept. Can't wait to see some of the first attempts to take down the final boss right away.

I just beat Dark Souls 3 recently without leveling, I can't imagine it would be too much harder than that.

I can imagine it now.. You do 1 DMG with your wooden sticks meanwhile Ganon has 4000 HP

OK that would probably be harder.

Ah man...I was just about to say something like this. Regardless, I personally like absolute power, but I'm also absurdly curious. I will most definitely go to that dark, giant, evil cloud where the castle is and see how fast I will get one shotted when the game is finally here.

Either a epic battle or a true war of attrition.

Of course the game will guide the player. Aonuma's just saying you can simply not follow the guiding and do things your way.

Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but it sounds like the story is not important at all since you can do anything in any order. It's like a game with only side quests but no main quest.

Can't you chose to fight the final boss in Chrono Trigger from the very start?

That might be too simplistic of a statement if you're mainly referring to Skyward Sword I assume. There's always too many factors going on for each game to discuss sales easily. Cause then stuff like OoT3D and MM3D can be seen as Prime examples of playing it safe (being remasters), and they sold well. While ALBW was something new/different, and sold worse than both I believe.

This is so fucking cool their design allows for this. I love it so much.
You should be punished proper for going straight to the final boss of course, but to go this extreme in a AAA game. Respect Nintendo. Goddamn.

Can't help but compare with Dark souls not in your face Lore style. DS copied so much from zelda, time for zelda to grab something too.

I mean as long as it's easy to determine that you're at the end then i'm okay with it. However, if you can accidentally stumble your way to the end without finishing the story then that sounds fucking terrible. This is not a 10 hour game.

I see that as sort of an Easter egg. I mean look at the ending you get if you do so.

Yep, I hate DS. I think the lore is a cheap excuse for not coming up with a coherent story. Time to see myself out. Glad for people who like it though.

Amazing they're allowing this. It really sounds like they've actually learned their lesson from Skyward Sword. I didn't see this coming. but I'm very happy.

Narrative, not Story. Story is literally everything you do in the game. You immediately awakening and kicking Ganon's ass is a story and I think that's a Story worth having.

However, there's a lot of questions I have about the world in general really, and I think that's what the main narrative will be about. The Star of the Show is not link but the world he traverses.

Games that typically let you venture into higher level areas let you know that you're there by how quickly you die. If you run straight toward the final boss i'd fully expect that you'd have to run through enemies that can kill you in a single hit.

Kinda shocked that this game kinda manages to fulfill the high expectations i had on ....i thought i would need to see the NX version to be completely sold but the WiiU version looks ballers.

2017 will start with a bang.

Hell, you can run into enemies in the first area that kill you in a single hit.

I'm 100% sure the game will guide the player through the game in a one way or another. Making a game of this caliber with no structure whatsoever would be too risky even for Nintendo.

Makes me wonder about the Master Sword. It sounds like it's something Zelda tells you to get to save Hyrule. If you can skip to the final boss, can you get the sword as well?

Interesting set of possibility

Everything about this game is straight up:

There has been Zelda games that had you defeat Ganon without the Master Sword. It could happen here but I bet it would be a challenge in itself.
