Funny you should mention Death Letter live. I downloaded a live performance of the song, and it's quite sloppy. Jack's tuning is pretty bland, doesn't sound nearly as Hendrix-ish as the album version. Less intense. And Meg is really off with the drumming. What date is the one you've heard? Perhaps I just got a bad performance.

I think the Stripes would benefit from having a bassist...

I'm not including covers or live versions. If I was, I'd probably include Let's Shake Hands, Death Letter, Lord Send Me an Angel, and a number of others I'm sure I've forgotten.

What's the thread title? Your top 5 white stripes song. Why on earth would a non-WS fan come here, except to troll? The title isn't ARE THE WHITE STRIPES OVERRATED?. The title is post your 5 white stripes favorites, or get the fuck out.

Used to love it, but it's...I dunno. I can't pin down exactly why I haven't listened to it in a long time, but I think it has to do with the length.

the white stripes really just do a note by note cover of it, just louder and less skilled. house's verison from 65 is might impressive, because his guitar playing while sloppy is amazing (he was like 80 years old) and his voice is this booming instrument that just shakes everything to the floor. most of the white stripes covers are like that, Rated X and Jolene are the ones i like the most. Stop Breaking Down is awful and Southern Can Is Mine is only slightly better. they also cover a bob dylan song (i only have the first album on lp) on the first album (cd only) and a few other songs, but they are pretty tame and boring compared to their original work.

death letter was oringally part of My Black Mama (pt1 and 2) from house's first recording session in 1930. there is also a female take on the track by Ida Cox.

Not sure WTF I was thinking, but Ball and Biscuit is so much better than Black Math. The attitude, the solos. Perfect.

It's quite possible that I'm your third man girl
But it's a fact that I'm the seventh son
And right now you could care less about me
But soon enough you will care, by the time I'm done

Let's have a ball and a biscuit sugar
And take our sweet little time about it
Let's have a ball girl
And take our sweet little time about it
Tell everyone in the place just to get out
We'll get clean together
And I'll find a soapbox where I can shout it

You read it in the newspaper
Ask your girlfriends and see if they know
That my strength is ten fold girl
And I'll let you see if you want to before you go

It's quite possible that I'm your third man
But it's a fact that I'm the seventh son
It was the other two which/was made me your third
But it was my mother who made me the seventh son
And right now you could care less about me
But soon enough you will care by the time I'm done
That just owns.
