Yu Suzuki retweets image GT team reacting to Shenmue III reveal.

sigh

I'm saying the opposite. I'm saying if someone who reports on games shows some emotion about a game they love, it shouldn't be frowned on. It shouldn't be serious business. They're games.

?

the rest of my post you cut out already said I have no problems with their reaction.

I was commenting on you being over others having opposite reactions to you on games you love. If games aren't serious business, you really shouldn't give a shit what someone says about them. You say positive reactions on games shouldn't be frowned on but neither should negative reactions. They're just games after all.

It pisses me off so much that I missed the entire live stream and their and GAFs live reactions because my fucking internet fell out. One of the greatest E3 moments and I missed it because of my piece of trash internet connection.

If it makes you feel better, I had to go to the bathroom during the FF7 remake reveal.

I can't believe people are actually criticizing others for getting excited over this. This is one of the best E3's of all time. This is years and years of build up for a lot of us to see these games we loved during our childhood come back in a big way. Seeing the way it can make an adult feel that child like excitement is a beautiful thing.

Anyone else think that their reactions are a bit over the top? Maybe like they were playing to their audience?
I get that they were excited but this just didn't seem genuine to me.

Fuck yes.
I dont give a shit about the gamers, i havent even completed Shemue 2 myself, but seeing this man get his chance to finally complete his story after 14 years of being dicked around and having nowhere to go was GLORIOUS.

Watching him walk out to a full applauding crowd, artwork and "Shenmue III" on the big screen behind him... oh man, what an emotional moment.

Anyone else think that their reactions are a bit over the top? Maybe like they were playing to their audience?

If you knew Huber you'd know it was all 100% genuine, and his friends there with him knew how much of a deal this was.
Huber's a guy who, as Bosman and Brad were talking about earlier, randomly gets depressed somedays and when someone asks what's up he just replies "Just thinking about Shenmue 3 man, how the story will never be finished"

probably best to ask them for hi res images that could be used at a printing company.

Thank you. These are bad ass and I thought the title change in that thread was a mod trolling, unfortunately.

Watch Huber describe Bloodborne during one of their e3 recaps. I don't think he was forcing it at all.

My mom always said: being childish is the trait of an adult.

I couldn't agree more, so now I just walk around acting like a child all the time.

I believe this is a good quote for this thread:

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

All of the unicorns gathered in one place on that day. An event like that will literally never happen again.

That and I just honestly dont think Valve care about something like Half Life 3 anymore. I would love to be wrong and I will lose my shit if it happens one day but I just dont see Valve making it. They are more into making stuff like Dota and CS:GO it seems now days. Mostly F2P stuff or cheaper smaller titles. Something like Half Life 3 which would be a huge budget single player experience just doesn't seem like the type of thing Valve does anymore.

As for "is this a GT vs GB thread?" whines, i think polar opposite reactions to a mindboggling conference are a fascinating point of discussion. So there.

Discussion is fine, but there is a lot of name calling involved ("GB are synical fucks!" "GT are overreacting clowns!") and it is clear some people want to just shit on either GB or GT, not have a real discussion. That stuff bothers me.

I don't think Half-Life 3 is really as big of a deal as Shenmue or FFVII. C'mon now

I'm a big fan of Giant Bomb, but their attitude toward that conference really highlighted how cynical and out of touch they can be. Brad was fucking insufferable during the post-show discussion. The mental gymnastics he had to perform to spin it as a loss for Sony were nothing short of incredible. It was nice to see Mark McDonald come on the live show last night and put him in his place.

Really? I'd like to see that! Got a link?

Found It!

i cant believe there were people trying to shit on their excitement for something they love.

thats a world i dont want to live in

I don't know, man. We seem to be looking at this from different angles and can't see what the other really means. I don't know where I said I gave a shit about what others say about games I love. Maybe the comment on Giant Bomb, but I made that comment only to illustrate that I stuck with them a long time and I didn't sour on them simply because they aren't Shenmue or FF VII fans. But because they hate everything. And it got old for me. They're free to do whatever the hell they want to on their site.

The larger point I was attempting to make was that the GT guys shouldn't be looked down upon merely because they showed emotion during these reveals. Its not necessarily directed at you.

Let's just agree to disagree and move on because we seem to be speaking 2 different languages. And yes, that's on me just as much as anyone else.

If jumping out of your seat and hugging your bros during a historic announcement during a GAMING conference rustles adult's jimmies, I don't want to grow up. It's not like this was a somber business meeting between investors.

Really? I just don't know many people IRL that have played HL games I guess

Half Life 1 and 2 sold waaaaay more copies than Shenmue. I'm as excited as anyone for Shenmue III but the 2nd game was a flop. Both Half Life games were gigantic.

FFVII though in terms of sales potential is the biggest though

Ugh.... I understand that they're excited, but there is a lack of professionalism in their reaction, not being able to control yourself and flipping over tables is something I expect from forums, reddit, and youtube, not professional outlets.

If you want joyless, uninspired, emotionless, cynical pessimism you are always free to tune in on Giant Bomb instead. They seem to be more down your alley, and I promise you, not more than a few smiles were shred during the announcements.

There is a good reason Shenmue was the third final ultimate reveal.

The order makes sense.

They started off with Shu's baby, TLG. They transitioned into third party, then capped that with FF7R. Shenmue was arguably the least likely of the three, so it made sense for that to be the final high point before showing off UC4.

Its the most surprising. Its not the biggest game. Not by a long shot lol. I mean Half Life 3 and FFVII will dwarf it in sales.

Few of the friends I was with look at me and asked what it was and why I was going nuts.

I said "do you see that Dreamcast down there"

"Yes"

"That's the reason I own one, the game is not for everyone but once you get soaked into it, its fucking beautiful and will amaze you for how old it is."

No worries mate it's not that big of a deal. Here's to hoping that Shenmue and Final Fantasy turn out alright.

Yeah exactly. Shenmue is incredible but its not as big of a franchise as Half Life or Final Fantasy by a long shot. Not to say Shenmue wont be a huge success but I mean FFVII sold something like 15 million copies. Its not even close

Well, friends are interested in it. I told them they can borrow my discs and just run an emulator to enjoy the game. Or just buy a gosh dang Dreamcast for $20 on eBay lol

god dammit I'm out

buncha grown ass men wearing printed t-shirts sneering at nostalgia culture, then pondering why yu didn't do VF6 instead of shenmue iii

I never understand why it's cool too be super hype about sports like football, soccer, etc. Every time I go to a bar and see how fans react to someone scoring a touch down or a goal they get crazy into it but when people get really into something video game related it's called childish. I'm not saying sports fan have no right to get overly excited or any kind of fan , it's just people need to understand that people get hype for all kinds of crap and everyone is unique to how they react and not everyone is going to react just like you because if everyone where the same then life would suck.

Most the Giantbomb dudes have been doing this for a while now so I'm not surpised that they don't jump for joy for final fantasy 7 or whatever instead that they get excited for stuff like VR or AR because that's a new thing that might actually change their industry in a big way and also maybe they just don't care for final fantasy or The last Guardian which is cool I'll still laugh and watch whatever they do I cause I could care if they don't react like a certain way.

They said plenty of stuff was cool, like Horizon for example.

They just didn't jump around for these announcements. Which for me was okay since I felt the same.

I like their sarcasm and more contained "this looks cool" than jumping around for a CGI trailer.
I really haven't understood this whole "giantbomb is full of nothing but cynics" thing going around this E3. Like you said, they don't jump around for announcements but there is plenty of stuff that they have talked-up.

I don't care what anyone says, this is the best E3 of all time. God bless Michael Huber for being the fan that we are, or wish we could be.

"Every dream has come true! Every dream!"

I was stunned at the GB reaction to FF7 when I went to check it out afterwards. It was my first GB experience, I thought they were going to be funny voice overs to the drier conferences. But they were just cynical assholes. These guys reacted how I'd have reacted if i wasn't incredibly stoned at 3am. Excellent stuff
