Yuji Horii on Chrono Trigger Remake "starting to contemplate on it" (Not the same translator flub from before)

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
May 8: Following last week's confusion, Horii has now shared new comments stating that he's aware of requests for a Chrono Trigger remake and is "starting to contemplate on it". This comes from a new interview with Gamereactor.

Below are his full words:

"It has been a long time. Yes, I want to do something. Currently, Dragon Quest has seen 3, 1-2 [HD-2D] Remakes. I get a lot of requests for the remake of Chrono Trigger as well, and so I am starting to contemplate on it".

I'd prefer the DQ3 remaster/remake style but even more ooh la la.

I don't think a DQ3 style remake is really needed. The original game still looks really good so not sure what another 2D version would accomplish.

Would rather see a FF7Remake style remake but maybe with an Expedition 33 budget/dev cycle (if such a thing is even possible) rather than a full AAA decade long project. A sequel or spiritual successor (with 5-7 different small world maps based on different time jumps) would be pretty exciting too.

God no!

If they do it, I hope it gets a proper budget and will be a full 3D game. And keep Nomura away from it.

If you're going to remake it then do it so it looks like DQ11 and have monsters in the overworld in 3d that you can choose to battle or not. Go full 3d with this game and give it a big budget because this legendary game deserves it.

The fact that Yuji Hori is the one talking about it means that the project falls under the Dragon Quest team's purview. So Nomura won't have a say unless Hori invites him in.

Seems like a nothingburger.
If they had any concrete plans I think this year with the 30th anniversary would have been the time to say something.
They've probably been "contemplating" remakes of many games for many years.

Chrono Trigger has a fixed protagonist, unless they fundamentally change the narrative, that won't happen.

Hopefully they update the bigoted langugage in the game though.
None of this "they abducted princess Marle!"
It needs to be "they've abducted the body type B offspring of our body type A figure of monarchical authority!!!".

Is this one of those situations where everyone wanted something to happen but the people at the company weren't aware of such a want, until a question or public event happened to bring it to light?

Because Capcom was notorious for this happening to them multiple times a while ago. It's why people put such importance on their surveys.
