I actually want Naka to get more immersed in actual development these days. He even was the director of Phantasy Star 2, the best offline PS to date, imo. But, well, Sonic Rush is there, and Samba de Amigo is my favourite party game ever, so there is a lot of talent in the so called "Sonic Team" beyond Yuji Naka, but not much in Sega Studio USA.

Naka can redeem himself by getting to work on something like Burning Rangers 2. Single player would once again be great and for multi player throw in cooperaive play over XBox Live or Sony's service.

All I wanted was NiGHTS 2. Instead I got a kid in a chicken suit pushing around a big egg and Grand Theft Hedgehog. Hate-worthy indeed.

I get the feeling he's badly advised by marketing departments overseas who are telling him what he "should" be doing. That shitty Shadow game looks like it was created purely by US focus-groups ("yeah, we want a Sonic game with MORE ATTITUDE AND GUNS!"), rather than letting the team create what they want to, as used to be the case. The fact that most Sonic games are farmed out to rubbish development teams these days (Dimps and Sonic Team USA) really doesn’t help matters.

I'm not sure how he managed to make NiGHTS. It must've been a fluke. Since then he's made nothing but trash.

What happened is that NiGHTS was his baby, and once that became an abysmal failure, he sorta gave up on everything and is now just going though the motions. I consider him a broken man, who never lived up to other people's expectation of Sega's Miyamoto. Its pretty sad really.

But there will always be NiGHTS...
