Zelda: A Link Between Worlds |OT| All in all you're just another Link in the wall

Well fuck, now I feel stupid lolololololol

This stumped me for the longest time too. To be fair, though,
it's one of a tiny handful of warp points that are indoors. The only other one I remember is the very first one you run into in Hyrule Castle.

I'm curious to get the silver rupeee

The one with cucco and wind and platform

help please
Keep trying till you land there. Don't try to land there by going straight down on to it. You're going to have to try and swerve on to it by going underneath the wind that is "blocking" it.

If it's the one I'm thinking of it's literally just a matter of aiming well and making sure not to enter any of the wind streams, since that knocks you down. There's one wind stream right above the silver ruppee but you just need to time it so you land on the platform without getting swept away. Took me a few tries to get it.

Just finished the Desert Palace. Probably one of my favourite Zelda dungeons. Just awesome. That along with the Swamp Palace have been the highlights of the game.

Now to finish this.

Really enjoying this game. I have never played a Zelda game in this format before. I have only played Oot, WW, TP, and SS previously. I am finding it to be very challenging. Them giving you everything and not know what to use when and where has been overwhelming for sure. I have done only one dungeon in lorule so far and am trying to figure out second I just entered.

Don't think there's a trick to it, just gotta time your movements.

Finally got it! thanks

you'll feel even stupider when you realise how to get to the chest in there

I still have no idea how to get it :(

Just beat normal mode. Holy hell that was an awesome Zelda game. I haven't played one this good since OOT and MM.

I was an idiot,
I didn't think to use the Cucco until after my like sixth try of jumping into the pit hoping the wind will bow me in the right direction

Are you talking about that Big Chest? I was trying to figure out how to get to it earlier today. I just turned off the game to go to bed, but your comment has compelled me to go back and try again!

Just be aware that it's without a doubt one of the most important chests in the entire game.

I just 100% my first run-through, and wow. This is most definitely my favorite Zelda and maybe my favorite 3DS game so far. The pacing was perfect and the world was packed with things to find. Probably won't do a Hero Mode run any time soon so I don't burn myself out but I'll be glad to revisit this game another time.

The ending made me smile too, so that's a plus.

This game is so goddamn good. But at what point can you permanently buy items? Does the option become available upon your first death or something? I've only died once so far and had a fairy. And how much does shit cost? I've got almost 5,000 rupees stocked up and I'm only at the beginning of Hera's Tower.

After the first 3 dungeons, the option to buy becomes available

Just finished House of Gale and am on my way to the Master Sword. Still have yet to die in this game but I hear I'm in for a treat in Lorule. Bring it!

The next Zelda needs to put items back in the dungeons, dungeons in this game don't get me excited because I don't find some cool item to help me explore more of the world, I already have everything to explore the world. The only thing I'm still being teased for is the sand rod (which I don't think I've seen a single place to use it in Hy/Lorule, I just know it exist thanks to Ravio's shop) and upgraded gloves.

Honestly what made Zelda fun for me LTTP and onwards was finding a new item in a dungeon and having the light bulbs go off in my head in terms of what new areas I could explore and what items I could finally reach, this game takes that away for the most part. When I go to a new section of Lorule I feel like I pick it clean before moving onto the next section with virtually no reason to go back. It especially stings because of how fragmented Lorule is compared to Hyrule, having to constantly jump to Hyrule to access a new section of Lorule that I'll only visit once cause I already have everything just ruins it for me.

I completely disagree. The fun of the items is the using of the items, not the getting. The appeal of the dungeons is figuring out their puzzles and completing them. In past games you'd see something, figure you're not equipped yet to complete it, and just come back later. With this setup it's all about figuring it out. The designers can't rest on lazy use of items as keys. If something is hidden the only thing keeping it out of your reach is your ability to figure it out.

Thank you, that was my second guess.
Can you clarify whether or not I can reach the chest without the mitts?

I can't remember. To be totally honest, I can't remember much of the game's puzzles at all - which is why I'm so pumped to play through lorule in hero mode

I have terrible short term memory.

So I was trying to figure out if there's an official dungeon order, but the portraits I have on the file select screen and the gear screen don't match up.

On the file select screen, from left to right:
Irene [blue/purple] (Desert Palace)
Impa [magenta] (Turtle Rock)
Oren [orange] (Swamp Palace)
Gulley [green] (Dark Palace)
Seres [cyan] (Skull Woods)
Osfala [yellow] (Thieves' Hideout)
Rosso [red] (Ice Ruins)

On the gear screen, clockwise from 12 o'clock:
Gulley [green] (Dark Palace)
Oren [orange] (Swamp Palace)
Rosso [red] (Ice Ruins)
Impa [magenta] (Turtle Rock)
Irene [blue/purple] (Desert Palace)
Osfala [yellow] (Thieves' Hideout)
Seres [cyan] (Skull Woods)

Seems random. Is everyone's layout the same? It's driving me crazy that they don't match up x_x

I've been gushing over this game on Zelda Universe, so I'll keep it short here.

This is the best Zelda since Majora's Mask. It's paced incredible well, there is always something to do thanks to the how open the game is to you from the start. Allowing the player to complete the dungeons in any order makes this game infinitely replayable. I've already completed it twice!

The dungeons are fantastic. Short and sweet. They never drag on, but I also never feel cheated when they are over. Completing one dungeon just gets me more excited to conquer the next one! I was surprised as just how incredible the atmosphere in some of the dungeons were which is all thanks to the games wonderful lighting, colors/textures, that one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. I kid you not when I say this may very well be the best Zelda soundtrack ever. There were a few music ques that literally brought tears to my eyes! Like after you complete
all the Lorule dungeons, and the overworld theme changes to a more orchestrated and heroic version.
It's like the music surged through my body, and escaped through tears.

So, yeah, I liked it. I never thought another Zelda would be able to touch the golden four for me (ALttP, LA, OoT, and MM), but ALBW ranks among the best, and maybe even surpasses them.

And enough of this Majora's Mask 3D jargon! I want A Link Between Dreams first!

what exactly are the "play coins" that the hint ghost charges you?

normally i'd never use that, but i was too hungover to do that ghost watching minigame in the lost woods

Maybe they don't want to insinuate a canon dungeon order for a reason.
Although I think that Thieves Hideout is "supposed" to be first, IMO, just due to its proximity to your first Lorule visit.

Stamina Meter is a massive improvement, since now they can make Bombs and Arrows actual puzzle items instead of ammo fed door unlocks. The fact that bombs were actually used as such in Lorule Castle was amazing to me. Such a small change, and such a huge difference (IMO).

The ending made me cry! I need to replay LTTP, OOT and WW but this game is in serious contention for my favorite Zelda game ever.

Also I'll do a Hero mode play through sooner or later, still don't know if I should consult a guide or just play through again and see what I can find. I seriously missed so many things on my first playthrough
I got ONE bottle, like half my inventory slots are empty, only got the blue tunic (I'm assuming there's a red one somewhere), only got two master ores.

I just atarted playimg today and already find it wayyyyy easier than LTTP. Its fun, but nintendo made the game for people that never played a zelda game, rather then people wishing a biy harder mode. Wish I could get a higher difficulty setting in the beginning for this game. Also I'm in agreement with the guy above. A zelda game isn't a zelda game unless you find a weapon inside a dungeon, rather then "renting" or buying it. I think that backtracking is really missed. It kinda made you more aware of your surroundings and takinh notes on items you'll need to progress. I'm hoping the next 3DS Zelda goes back to being a "Necessary item" dunegeon game

I've been spending most of my time playing Mario so I haven't had much time for this, but I wanted to jump in and say, holy shit! This game reminds me of playing Zelda as a kid again. The linear structure of the older games stand out a lot to me now that I've gotten older, but when I played them as a kid they felt just as open-world and overwhelming as this one does. So LBW is nostalgic in a lot of ways - the art, world, music, and even game design. Some of these puzzles are really stumping me, too.

Just beat this game and had a smile on my face from beginning to end. Absolutely loved it. Now to 100% this thing! I also love the street pass feature. Its so fun going up against someone with the same equipment as you.

Dat twist.

This game was lacking a bit of personality to make it truly memorable, but the final dungeon and the way it all ended was just really satisfying. I don't know if it's as good as the console Zeldas, but I absolutely adore it.

After the near universal praise ALBW has got for the new item system, I think you should set your hopes very, very, very low.

They'll continue with it. They've already said that Zelda U will be a complete upending of the formula. And I'm glad. The previous formula was getting stale as hell.

And I strongly disagree with your comment that Nintendo made this game for new players. Everything about it from the world, the music and the storyline is designed for people who are nostalgic about Link to the Past. It's a game made for classic Zelda fans, period.

They've already had a decent number of Zelda's using the "Necessary item" structure, and while I liked, (and still like) that structure, I still appreciate what they did with ALBW.

I think if anything it'd be a shame for Nintendo to go back to the old style for the next 3DS or even the Wii U without building on what they made in ALBW.

Edit: Rich, I agree with most of what you're saying, hopefully the game sells well enough to signal to Nintendo that change is good, because I'd hate for this game to have poor sales and for the Wii U Zelda to go back to the old style so soon.

Beat this last night. Didn't die a single time and didn't really have any trouble with the puzzles.

Having said that, the game was still highly enjoyable for me. I played it non-stop. Going through Hero Mode now and going to 100% things there.

I really really liked getting all the "tools" available so close to the beginning of the game. I really hate in other recent Zelda games that half a dungeon is locked behind that dungeon's item. Having the optional upgrades sprinkled in the later 7 dungeons is much more refreshing.

At the
dark palace
there is a seemingly unreachable room on 1f and a seemingly unreachable chest on 2f. Do I need an end game item to reach these? I have been trying to figure it out for about 30 minutes now. (I have already completed the dungeon)

What the hell...I'm completely stuck in the Swamp Palace.

I'm past the halfway point. Blew up both floor tiles with the bombs. Got the key on the left path and was able to open that door...did what there was to do there. Now I don't have any key left to do the right path. Also haven't been able to raise the water level in the main or side rooms.

Am I missing something super obvious?

edit: nevermind, I'm an idiot.

THIS. The way ALBW handles items is much better and hopefully the way the series handles items going forward.

The only thing easier in this game is that you can attack diagonally, the sword doesn't have a stupid shit hitbox, and Moldorm isn't the most infuriating piece of shit in the known universe.
So, essentially, it isn't broken.

Puzzles are subjective, but honestly the puzzles had a lot more charm. I actually remember the dungeons for the dungeons, and not just the toy I got in them, which is IMO a huge plus.

I've been playing the game for the last few days. While the Hyrule segment was very solid with some nice dungeons, lots of exploration, and a short opening with little hand holding, it still felt a bit too much like A Link to the Past, even with the new item system. It felt more like I was playing a hybrid between a remake and a Master Quest for that than a brand new game.

Lorule is definitely where the game finds its identity. It feels much less like the Dark World in A Link to the Past and the dungeons are a lot of fun. The nonlinearity is really enjoyable, too. I somehow ended up doing 5 Lorule dungeons today when until now I've never played through more than one or two dungeons a day.
