In an Interview granted to Libération, Eiji Aonuma de Nintendo, which in particular took part in the development of many shutters of the Zelda series, reveals some very interesting information concerning next Zelda on GameCube and Nintendo DS.

Eiji Aonuma (Nintendo) 'There will be without any doubt Zelda for the DS. In fact, you appear that the reflexions which we developed around Four Swords largely contributed to the reflexion which we had to conceive the DS. The concepts with work in Four Swords formed part of the examples that we experienced while thinking on the possible plays for the DS and the advantages that the double screen allows. It was theoretical but today, it would be very a shame, and even ashamed, that one does not make the opposite demonstration: a truth good Zelda on DS. The next episode of Zelda conceived for GameCube is already completed but I can absolutely nothing say some moreover. You know the house: even the title and the topic are still secret. This next large Zelda, which makes continuation with the WindWaker episode chronologically, will leave to Japan at at the end of 2005. I am engaged to 200 % in his development and I can betray one secrecy of it: it will be very, very beautiful.'

If true, hot damn.

If the game is 100% done then why are they waiting until the end of 2005?

To get the most sales out of it... If the game is done now, they can release it in JP, NA, and EU at the same time.

I hope the game is longer and more complete than Wind Waker.

I just hope it's a bit more focused on telling a good story with interesting characters - and a little less dungeon-ing :)

What Nintendo needs to do is work and rework the title now. Every dev says they wish they had more dev time... WELL GUESS WHAT, NINTENDO... YOU DO!
Go work at it some more... Add some things you couldnt before. Keep trucking! Optimize the engine! Do SOMETHING!

- Developing Four Swords helped Nintendo to think how Zelda DS could be, and to create other DS games concept.
- Zelda DS will be a good Zelda.
- The next Zelda for GameCube is already finished (!!!), title and story are still secrets.
- It will be a sequel to WindWaker, release date : end of 2005 in Japan.
- Eiji Aonuma says that the game will be very nice looking.

Something here doesn't seem right. I can see Nintendo holding back the title, but confirming that it's complete to the public is foolish. Of course, Wind Waker didn't make a huge splash because of its odd release date.

That's what E3 is for. To allow them to get feedback on a FINISHED product and then based on that feedback they can make tweaks.

I really doubt it's actually "done" like we would consider, it, most likely the engine and scenario are in place or "done", but probably it's still seeing changes, additions, removals, tweaks, etc...

I think the GC version was done in-house, but I could be wrong?

Either way I'm looking forward to the 4Swords for DS. I've been having a LOT of fun lately with my friends with the GC version. If you haven't played that on 4-players, you haven't lived.

it will be very very beautiful

It better be, anyone else think they have remade it into WW style, and used E3 2004 to dupe us all?

I definitely agree. You would think they would take all this extra time and add more too it. Then again maybe the game has been in development for longer than most of us think. However, if the game falls short of adding new stuff and game length reviewers will pan the game. If they fuck up this Zelda game then I think people will think twice about buying future Nintendo consoles/products.

Well, the french word "achevé" can mean anything without further detail... The game is probably finished from a conceptual point of view (remember when they were proclaiming they didn't have any theme for the game), maybe not from a technical or testing one...

When was the last Zelda game that Nintendo screwed up? As far as I'm concerned all the Zelda console releases, since I haven't put time into the GBC/GBA Capcom Zeldas, have been AAA games. I don't see Nintendo screwing this game up.

But, if it's just going to leave this Zelda "alone," then I'm worried. It should continue to make it better and I think it will.

wtf? I sure hope he mean that it will come out in the US at the end of 2005 also. If the game is fininshed now I guess I shouldn't worry...

If the game is completed, why not polish it even more :P Maybe that's what they are doing now!

Even though alot of people dislike, say Wind Waker or Majoras Mask, I think all the Zelda games have been great also. But I use to think all the main Mario games were great too until they released Mario Sunshine.

Exactly. Don't try and take too much from a translation, especially if it's a translation of a translation (as I'm sure Aonuma didn't answer the interviwer's questions in French).

I just hope it's not another WW scenario when WW came out in Japan december, and then the US version came out in march next year.

there is no information on this news ... no revelation about zelda ds just speack about four sword and possibility to play on Nintendo DS.

"continuation with the WindWaker episode chronologically" yes sure young Link > Link mature ... but there is no link between the two version excepted link is mature now.

Super Mario Bros. 3 was also completed 1 year before release.

I hope they take the time left and just polish the hell out of everything.

I'm sure the basic stuff for Zelda like the engine and scenario are done, but I doubt that the game is competely finished. If E3 around the corner, it's the perfect for Nintendo gauge whether or not they got it right this time. I'm sure they really want to avoid having another Wind Waker on their hands, just as the new Mario Kart is bringing back things that gamers wanted in Double Dash.

I'm expecting this Zelda to be something special personally, but I'm probably in the minority at this point.

How do you know that? Actually, now that I think about it, you act kind of like an industry know-it-all in a lot of threads.

Meh. I guess we can count out voice acting. You would think EAD would need more time to add something like that. Oh well.

Iwata-san confirmed some time ago that Zelda for Gamecube will be playable at E3.

Iwata did say that the playable demo would pretty much be near finished build.

Go back to making a Zelda game every three years, this Zelda barrage is ridiculous.

Nobody gives a shit about Zelda anymore, which up to OoT was an incredible license that could get people exited.

gg, Nintendo.
