The ragewill be glorious. All those nerds getting mad xD

Perfect choice though. But wasn't Peter's first love interest Gwen Stacey?

Betty Brant in issue #4 but that went no where. Gwen didn't show until issue #31.

Is this movie actually going to have hobgoblin? I have been waiting for an on screen hobgoblin since they started churning out Spiderman movies.

Dead

well not really...yet
She's attractive enough that she would fit quite well if they ever go the super model route with her character and seems to have decent charisma. Who gives a shit about the hair to be honest, and her race is a non issue.

Main worry for me is that the movie will be too steeped in current younger generation pop culture, which is completely unrelateable to me. Good for newer audiences at least.

The Osborn family hair style was a real thing back when.

Chris Samnee posted some great references for it on tumblr.

Also, the pictures themselves are pretty great.

This is proof that white people invented the wave cap!

...I mean...

it's about the current younger generation

Because MJ being white isn't a defining physical trait. Her red hair is.

No S-curl or trunks.

No Blonde hair.

No waves.

No... really anything Star Lord whatsoever.

Even if you take just the costumes, they are best are only rough approximations of what's in the comics. Amazing 2 and Iron Man are probably the closest? Once again? I have no clue where they were going with Scarlet Witch.

This isn't making the argument obtuse. This is arguing that everything is already changing, so drawing the line at this seems odd.

Caring about visual signifiers, okay, but what is the character about? Does this version of Mary Jane fit with this version of Peter Parker? How do they interact? What kind of relationship do they have? I find these more important than her hair or race. And for a grand number of characters, these traits do not define their characters in any fashion.

Steve Rogers is a good example of one where it does: given the time period he is directly from and he function there as a propaganda tool, having be non-white would drastically change the character. He needs to be white. He doesn't need to be blonde haired and blue eyed, that's just frosting. But white? That's a big facet of the character.

There are others, but for many? You can do whatever in the confines of an adaptation and still retain that character's personality or function.

Parallax

best seen in the classic "Shadow of the Beast"

No cornrows.

even without the blonde hair, thats still not barry allen. thats like the robin on teen titans being dick in name only

amnd while starlord worked out for the movie, its made his comic counterpart shallow as all hell

Yeah, as I pointed out earlier in the thread, neither of the live-action Flashes are really Barry Allen in any appreciable fashion. Wrong look, wrong personality.

But I dig Grant Gustin and the brief tease of Ezra Miller in the Justice League trailer gave me hope.

Not this shit again...How about we make Luke Cage asian and Black Panther a white guy instead. That's okay right?
Nothing against Zenyatta, I'm just sometimes sick of corporate decisions of disregarding the idea of being a faithful to the source material just because of whatever reasons.

Yeah something was definitely up, they were being fairly cagey with her character, so this makes sense. Didn't for a minute think the lead actress in a Spider-man film would be playing a made up character or as big of a nobody as Michelle Gonzales.

Still no word on who Donald Glover and Tyne Daly are playing though, and they're in the top billed cast so they gotta be somebody.

Luke Cage: Yes. Would add to that grand total of zero male Asian superheroes we have right now in the MCU.

Black Panther: Sure, and then there'd be a white defender of an exotic country. Never seen that before.

You people are something else.

What, is there a dearth of white movie and television characters for you?
Feeling under-represented?

Race is completely inherent to black panthers character so nah its not the same thing as this MJ casting.

And for the record the last F4s johnny storm casting was perfectly fine too. Get over it guys

No, it's just really really important to me that someone who I identify with so much as a character not be changed TOO much, if you know what I mean. :( Imagine if they made black and Asian people white in movies! How would you feel?????????

Great! It's the Flash Thompson casting I'm worried about.

That's who the dude with the awful haircut that looks like he played keyboard in Culture Club? He does not look like the star quarterback, more like the star Pokemon trainer.

And I realize that these movies have giant green people and superpowers, but we're supposed to believe there's an Asian teenager running around in 2016 named Ned Leeds?

I get updating the characters for modern times, but why leave them with these unsuitable 1960s names?

Black Panther is one of the few characters that his race is integral to the character. Luke Cage? Sure.

How am I supposed to react to this other than be outraged? If MJ is no longer white, that means there are only dozens of other white characters littered across the Spiderman property and the MCU as a whole. Why won't anyone think of of how poor white representation is in comics and comic book movies?
