Luthor with hair in BvS was the least of that character's problems. Luthor begins Eisenberg, also not a huge problem. Luthor having no consistent character or motivation was ultimately the issue. See also: Kevin Spacey.

Never seen Spacey's version but Eisenberg not nailing Luthor's general demeanor (at least how I perceive it from the books and the animated series) was a huge problem.

I'm not saying anything different >_<

A good MJ will be good regardless of her hair color. That doesn't mean a fan is wrong for wishing a movie better represented the source material. That desire also doesn't mean it's wrong for a movie to try something different as long as the execution holds up. People can have opinions on aesthetics!

Ahh, then I refer to this post. It seems we're likely in the same range.

Yes, but the flipside isn't "I prefer the red hair" which I've said I agree with. That's an understandable take. It's "without red hair, it's not Mary Jane", which is a perplexing take for any adaptation. It's not a defining facet of the character and like many other adapted heroes, visual and even character resists change all the time.

Right look, wrong execution. Many of the same problems are shared between Eisenberg and Spacey's versions.

The Original waifu.. MJ>>>> Gwen.

Pretty much everyone > Gwen. People only know of Gwen due to her iconic death. If she didn't die, she'd just be another Betty Brant as soon as Peter ditches her boring ass sometime in the 70s.

As for red hair MJ, it doesn't matter that much. The only thing you have to knock down with MJ is that she's the bombshell party girl who on the surface seems like one of those high priority stuck up bitches, but is actually a pretty empathetic, chill homegirl. Some don't agree, but her and Peter's romance was one of the great ones in comics. A true OTP.

I agree.

So I want Mj to have red hair. Thats a new "dog whistle" right? That the theme of party now? Hard to keep up.

I'm sorry...do you now represent everyone? If that doesn't apply to you, disregard.

It is, however, clear that a lot of these "concerned" posters are more concerned about the wrong color on MJ...and it ain't her hair.

And yet, Dunst was a strawberry blonde and no one cared. Hell, Dallas Bryce Howard was a deeper red head than Dunst.

Somehow, we can look at this vision of Spider-man being unconventional, the casting of Marisa Tomei as Aunt May and shrug it off as "Aunt Bae" but Zendaya is cast as MJ and we obsess over her gotdamn hair color.

Unbelievable.

Dunst wore a wig for Spidey 1 and dyed her hair for the second and third one I believe. Main reason why it wasn't as dark as the first one. Tomei decision was probably made because they are borrowing elements from all over including Ultimate and because they cast a younger Peter this time around.

Peter has ALWAYS been young in relation to May, even when he was a teenager in the classic comics. The classic iconic May is always old. Guess what? It doesn't matter. Those are finer details that don't actually matter in the grand scheme for this vision. Hell, this Spider-Man has a suit given to him by Tony Stark, that looks nothing like his classic one.

But sure, let's obsess about MJ's hair color...

the fact that Tony gave Spidey his suit did bother me. In fact, I think it did bother a lot of other people on this very forum

Fine it bothered you.

So you would ignore all my other points? SMH.

1) The suit ain't the same design as classic Spidey.
2) Aunt May ain't the same as the classic.
3) MJ might not have red hair.

This vision isn't conventional for a number of reasons yet people are stuck on her hair color. It's amazing.

To be fair, I do think people are pretty picky about character traits and that the hair color really is the problem for them. Shailene Woodley was trashed pretty badly as MJ and we didn't even get to see her act lol

It is sad that there is probably people who are only mad because MJ's ethnictiy is changed. If she's got the personality and general look then she'll be perfect.

1) No the changes in the sit doesn't bother me because it is still identifiable as Spidey.
2) Aunt May ain't the same as the classic because it is obvious they went with the Ultimate bent on this reboot. It would be great if she looked like she does on the USM cartoon.

Well if the set photos are anything to go by, we know that the hair is different. People can only make a call about how a character was portrayed after having seen the movie. For me right now, Flash Thompson seems to be horribly miscast and it seems they are going to change him significantly, which I don't like.

Got it, so the suit and May don't bother you. You are selective about what should be pure in the Spidey mythos.

It is pretty hard to mess Spidey's suit up. Different iterations of Spidey's suit keeping the same primary color scheme is pretty common. I think most fans of Spidey would agree they are used to see seeing slight variations of the classic suit. I know that is why it doesn't bother me much. I don't like web pits though.

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Jesus I hate the Internet and GAF sometimes.

"IF YOU DON'T LIKE HER YOU'RE RACIST BRO JUST BE HONEST"

or

"SHE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THE COMICS THIS IS TERRIBLE"

Both sides are fucking obnoxious as hell and par for the course with this forum.

She's cute, don't know anything else about her nor do I care that much. I wanna see Spidey swinging around buildings, launching quips and kicking ass. The actress who plays his love interest is of almost zero-interest to me. And for the record, Dunst was a terrible MJ.

People in this thread getting upset with a handful of folks who would like to see Zendaya's MJ with red hair.

You are both acting like there isn't a long and sad history of there being outrage, anger and obvious concerned hand wringing whenever a minority actor gets a role traditionally perceived to be white.

I'm not going to blame people for rolling their eyes when someone latches onto a character's hair color or something else largely superficial as a reason why an African American actor is suddenly a bad choice when we consider the shit shows that have occurred in the past.

To everyone complaining about Zendaya not being a redhead:

I wonder how you feel about a blond haired actor in Daniel Craig playing James Bond, considering that all previous Bond actors are dark haired and is even described as such in the original novels.

There was some controversy about Craig's casting originally

But I think it was more to do with the fact he looked like an old boxer than a smooth suave upper class Brit

This criticisms changed when the new Bond movies took a more Bourne approach to combat though

But who's doing that here though? Maybe I missed the posts. I've read a lot of them, but doubt I read all 1096 thoroughly.
