Apparently this was supposed to be a surprise in the movie. Kinda wish it hadn't leaked. The outrage probably would have even been more hilarious.

Prediction: Mary Jane in the movie will dye her hair red for the homecoming dance and that will be the big reveal I'm guessing.

I wonder how people feel about a blond haired actor in Daniel Craig playing James Bond, considering that all previous Bond actors are dark haired and is even described as such in the original novels.

I never once considered black hair to be a big part of the aesthetics of Bond.

When I think Bond, I think of a handsome guy with a suit/tuxedo and a gun and when I think of MJ I think of a very beautiful girl with red hair.

I really don't understand why it's such an issue that some people would want MJ to have red hair.

Roger Moore had brown hair.

I'm not particularly a Bond fan so I couldn't speak for that fanbase.

That would be tremendous.

But who's doing that here though? Maybe I missed the posts. I've read a lot of them, but doubt I read all 1096 thoroughly.

Yeah, it seems like some people are trying to make this about her race or something. I'm sure there's a bunch of racist that are mad and there's 2 or 3 people on here who would prefer her to be white but wanting red hair is not the same as wanting her to be white.

The photoshop someone posted earlier in the thread looked great, I'd like to see something like that in the movie.

If we do get a scene at the end with a red hair reveal for the dance I will mark out. I can picture it in my mind already.

Make it the "face it tiger" scene. It would be too perfect. Hng.

Close, the red hair will be her natural color.

She was dying it THE WHOLE TIME.

I don't get how this could've been a reveal, though, will no one in the movie say her name until the end? Maybe her part in the first movie is really small so it's not weird that no one ever says her name.

I think people were expecting a scene like in the comics where May and her friend arrange a blind date for Peter and he is all bummed out about it and then MJ turns up on the doorstep and does the fact it tiger thing,

People hiding behind their want for MJ to have red hair (to try and mask their true agenda in regards to this MJ) is setting some people off.

I doubt most people even know she's of mixed ethnicity.

Hell, there was Internet drama a year or two back when Zendaya wore dreads to an event and people accused her of cultural appropriation because they just assumed she was white because of her looks.

The average person doesn't research a person's heritage. They just look at a photo and go "eh, looks white, black, asian, ginger, etc."

Damn, Zendaya makin moves! Good for her. I think I ONLY know her from race controversies and acne commercials, lol (and the occasional red carpet event). I can't name a single thing she has been in.

You obviously don't have kids or young nieces/nephews.

She's huge on the Disney channel.

You know what? I was almost going to say that I think I've seen her on Disney. I still watch a lot of Nickelodeon, but Disney Channel fell off my radar ever since That's So Raven and Hannah Montana went off the air (don't tell anyone I watched those, lol)

I give no shit about her origin.

But red hair or gtfo.

Also no sure skipping Gwen is a good idea. We know they did it because of the Amazing turds...

they could also make Gwen the college girl and do something to provide romantic tension OTHER than having one of them killed off

Man, ginger people just cannot catch a break in recent superhero adaptations and updates.

Still there's nothing about the character that is in anyway race specific. The red hair is genuinely her only defining physical characteristic, so it would be nice if they included it, even if it's not natural red, but it's not exactly going to affect the plot if they don't bother.

The drama was a news anchor or some other moron calling her a pothead because of her dreads – her ethnicity was never in question.

It's good that you mentioned that though, since the reception she's had so far for being cast as Mary Jane and the convenient scapegoat of hair color (lmao) shares the same root cause as the snarky comments she got for wearing dreads: tragic racist undertones.

Soooooooo glad they're going with MJ, and not Gwen.

Admittedly, Emma Stone nailed it as Gwen, and the romance is probably the best thing about the ASM film series but MJ is queen.

But I'm black. I want red hair. And your argument is bullshit.

Look there's racist people out there. Racist people will say all kinds of wild stuff that doesn't fly with me. But this reeks of Ghostbusters all over again.

You're putting the people who want red hair and the people you view as racist in the same box to fit an agenda when you shouldn't be. Sure some of the people who are saying that are trying to hide their thinly veiled racism but that doesn't mean most saying that are.

I find it insane that saying MJ should have red hair is somehow racist. Keep the same actress but dye her hair, I honestly cannot fathom why people are trying to call out racism over her hair.

I think they go perfect together. If I saw them walking down the street holding hands I would question how he got her fine ass which is exactly the Peter Mary Jane dynamic.

I think you're confused. The controversy was Giuliana Rancic saying Zendaya looked like she smelled like patchouli, or weed because she was wearing locs.

Emma was so good that anyone trying to do the role would have paled in comparison.

MJ definitely needs Red hair, - it's iconic for her, but it definitely doesn't have to be ginger-type red hair. The pic posted earlier is great. Going a different way makes sense when they already have Potts on screen.

To everyone complaining about Zendaya not being a redhead:

My problems with Daniel Craig as Bond lie much deeper than his hair or eye colour.

*i Have no problem with the MJ casting

Red hair? Meh.

Make it blue. Then Peter can have a scene where he dyes her hair and come home and tell Aunt May he blue Mary Jane, and then Tony will see there's blue marks on Peter's clothes.

"I think you blue yourself too, Tiger."

I'd say I don't care because it wasn't a big part of who Bond is when he was cast and it isn't important now either.

Is she a good actress?

Surely that is more important than having red fucking hair.

On point.

Pretty much every single person saying Zendaya better have red hair is clearly stating they want her to have red hair. Which would then imply they have no problem with her being Mary Jane Watson.

Yet its the same people thread after thread who charge in and "dog whistle" " you are racist" over and over again. This is a discussion forum for what most of society would consider nerds, geeks, losers etc. Trivial things like Hair color, how many decks does the Enterprise have etc. are things that matter to those kind of people.

You aren't interested in a discussion. You run in throwing around accusations meant to silence and stifle discussion.

Vast, vast majority of race swaps in comic book movies/TV have been phenomenal, I'm kinda sceptical about this one but expect to be proven wrong. I do wish this had been a Miles Morales movie though, instead of changing up side characters, give us the strong black lead from the source material. Not to mention we really don't need cinematic Peter Parker back in high school for the third time in fifteen years.

I don't care about the red hair one iota, but that's not the greatest example there. James Blonde was a thing roughly a decade ago.

Wow a lot of people really care about this Mary Jane character. Oh wait a non white person is playing her.

Hopefully she has red hair or something. That's really all I care about as far as this character is concerned.

I hope she dyes her hair red for the movie.
Also, there is a huge difference between racism and wanting a character to look like his/her comic book counterpart. I'm not saying every comment is not racist, but some people want the movie characters look like their comic book counterparts.
