Zoe Saldana cast as Gamora in Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Zoe must be crazy rich by now. So many blockbusters. She's like Lady Harrison Ford or something.

HA! No chance. I'd be surprised if she's getting more than $500k for this film. I'd heard that all the offers Marvel are making on their movies are ridiculously low and that's with a concrete seven picture deal clause attached to it.

If Saldana is taking a deal like this it's because nothing else was coming around for her. A bit of shame but Marvel are notoriously tight fisted when it comes to their deals. But times are tough at the moment and many actors feel as though they have no choice.

And I imagine that Saldana falls right into that character. She's by no means a name that can open a movie but she has enough exposure (with Trek etc) to be known to audiences.

Yeah, I'm sure she picked this high profile Marvel movie, in a wildly succesful genre right now, just because she didn't get any other offers for anything, ever.

What's that got to do with anything? How does that benefit Saldana? Being in Trek didn't exactly open many doors for her. You realise that the only cast member of a Marvel produced film with any 'back end' deal or creative control is Robert Downey Jnr.

I'm sure being in a low paid ensemble picture with a seven picture deal attached to it is exactly what she's looking for. After that action movie that Luc Besson made bombed everyone knew she couldn't carry a film herself so she's back to doing this.

I don't mind Zoe as a choice, but I hope they get her a trainer to put on some muscle. And yes, Marvel is notorious for paying actors peanuts.

Saldana must be very wealthy, her contract for Avatar 2/3 alone will be enough to never need to work again and live very very comfortably.

She is a lead in Avatar too. The fact that she is a lead in two major franchises now, on top of a supporting in a 3rd. Even if the payment isn't good, it keeps her relevant and will keep getting lead roles in smaller films for quite some time.

What that has to do with anything? You see, Hollywood casting directors have a hot-list, it's a list of actors that are hot right now and it's the reason you often see the same actors in AAA-movies alot in the same period of time. If you're in a succesful blockbuster movie, you immediatly move up that list. When it's time to cast a female lead in a big movie, the studios go, yeah we want a popular actress for this role. And there you go, Zoe gets another well paying job.

That's why doing a movie like this is very important for future work for actors, once you're on that list and you manage to stay on it for a few years, you'll make bank.

Yeah, I remember that the word going around when they were casting Cap was 300 000 dollars which is pretty low. Though I doubt Evans only received that as he was already a name by that time. Either way they all got a nice bonus for The Avengers.

That was before they were bankrolled by Disney - owner of ABC, ESPN, and LucasFilm. Surely someone like Saldana sees how Downey was rewarded for sticking around through three films - that kind of payday awaits all of them eventually so long as they keep going strong.

"So @VonSpears & I are going on a little trip. Here's what he's wearing."

HOLY SHIT!

If they are going to have Cosmo in the film, then I guess they will end up on Knowhere at some point in the film as well. This movie will be fucking bonkers. At least I really hope so.

It's shaping up to be a very cool. Someone mentioned this in the MCU thread but I am definitely getting a Star Wars vibe from this.

Are they really making an Avatar 2/3?

I don't think everyone is going to get that kind of payday, but what Marvel does offer is steady employment over a long period of time and massive exposure.

I had only a little doubt that Cosmo would be in this. He's kind of crucial to that ensemble and they don't even need to CG his mouth talking since he communicates telepathically. All they need is a well trained dog. Still great to to get some confirmation.

It's going to be fucking bizarre seeing Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista standing next to each other on the red carpet or whatever. :lol

He's not that crucial to the ensemble. He basically runs their base so he doesn't typically go out with the team whenever they are doing stuff (partially because he is so powerful that they need to keep him out of the action most of the time, ie, Martian Manhunter syndrome). That role could have been handed to someone else. That being said, I am glad they kept Cosmo since he is loveable, funny, and overall a great character.

I hope they use a real dog instead of CGing him also.

How the hell do you even open a film like this lol? It's like do you show Rocket first or Groot. I just can't wait to see how the fuck they pull it off.

Start them in a big battle and then flashback would be the typical cliched option.

Start it with the badguy (Thanos or otherwise) doing something cool to show how threatening he is (ie, the original Star Wars intro).

Start it with just Peter Quill (Star-Lord) and follow him until he is forced to create this team. (This could also happen following the Darth Vader-style intro I mentioned above)

Looks cool. Don't know much about this franchise as I normally stick with the big names but can't wait to see how it turns out!

I just mean it would feel weird without him (at least to fans). When I think of GotG (the recent version) Cosmo is one of the characters that immediately comes to mind.

I don't see why they couldn't/wouldn't just use a real dog for the reasons I mentioned above. I have a feeling that's one of the main reasons why they went ahead and put him in actually.

Marvel dared to lowball the star of Stargate Atlantis, Baywatch Hawaii, and Johnson Family Vacation. Not to mention Mr. Lisa Bonet, of course he walked.

I have a feeling he will end up regretting his decision. He is flat out a fool for rejecting this role.

Let's not forget that he was also the new Conan the Barbarian for slightly over two minutes :)

Nah, he'll always have his role in Game of Thrones to bank on.

I can't believe I just wrote that with a straight face :D
