CVG - Ex-Rare man Martin Hollis talks games
CVG: What are you currently working on at Zoonami? You've mentioned that downloadable games is a direction you may be heading...

Hollis: I will reveal as much as I can. We are happily dedicated to Wii, which is a very exciting console indeed, and are working on multiple projects. Incidentally I believe Wii will capture first place in this generation of the console race within a year, by all important measures. I also believe that Wii will change the world.

Downloadable games have changed the business landscape of the game industry for the better. The idea that a new console game has to cost upwards of $30 or pounds has been funnelling the industry for too long. As I touched on above we have created three games now available for download. Downloadable games are likely to play a very large part in our future.
Very effusive of him!

But will it amount to anything? Surely Zoonami has to release something major soon.

There's other info in the interview, with an interesting bit about Hollis's involvement in the design of GC.

Maybe they will have something in the first wave of Wiiware titles? Or, more probably, they'll randomly pop up every nine months or so to tease a project that will, in the end, never come to fruition. It could go either way, really.

So this basically confirms again downloadable original games on Wii then?

Wish Nintendo would get on and announce something.

WiiWare Channel was announced :-p Downloadable Game Channel. Late 2007-Early 2008 is timeframe. Iwata Announced 2008 but NOA has said it could happen this year.

what happened to funkydilla?
Never heard anything of it after it's original announcement.

They did finally release a game this year though: Zendoku, for PSP and DS. Edit: I see they also did Go!Puzzle for PS3. So that's two puzzle-games in one year. A WiiWare title would seems a good probability then.

I can't wait to play Gargleblatt, Zigglefrapp and Doogliwhooper Island with motion controls.

Seriously, before they pick platforms, I think they need to hire someone who can come up with names.

That was my first thought. Like David Jaffe, Martin Hollis has really taken a shine to smaller scale titles. I just want them to release something. One game in seven years is pretty weak.

Who is zoonami again?
Martin Hollis, the CEO, used to work at Rare and was Director and Producer of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, although he left before Perfect Dark was finished.

Well if they make a first person spy game inspired by their website(and goldeneye) theme for the wii then i accept the seven years of nothing......
