Real Madrid and Barcelonas television revenue, which helps make them the worlds richest soccer clubs, will be limited under a new Spanish law.
The teams, with combined annual sales of 1 billion euros ($1.36 billion), wont be able to receive more than four times as much broadcast income as the smallest of the 20 clubs in Spains La Liga under the legislation, league president Javier Tebas said in an e-mail today.
Real Madrid and Barcelona wont be happy if their television income is frozen, Catherine Davies, who covers Spanish soccer rights for London-based consultancy Sportcal, said by telephone. The league is working to placate them by increasing total broadcast sales, she added.
Amid falling pay-per-view subscriptions because of Spains economic slump, the league aims to boost TV rights income to 1 billion euros from 752 million by 2017 by combating piracy, increasing sales abroad and pushing the government to remove a weekly match on free-to-air television, Davies said.

Long term Barca and Real Madrid will be better off for this. The league will be more competitive throughout, better to watch, more interesting for the rest of the world and they will still have enough money to spend on the worlds best players.

Barca and Madrid are 2 of the 4 most marketable teams in the world, with Madrid way out in front, and both have the best players in the world lining up to play for them. They shouldn't need such an unfair TV deal and dodgy finances to sustain their ability to buy the world's best

Didn't he have a reputation when he moved to City for being something of a blind spot for Pellegrini? Certainly proving to be the case at the moment, unless I'm missing some hidden attributes he brings to them. Seems constantly 5 seconds behind the play, like *gasp* Christian Poulsen.
