He is the best. And the snow is crap. But the others managed just fine and deservedly won the medals.

yep. Vancouver was far more exciting then this event, IPOD almost single handily saved the competition but imo these whole Olympics have an rather amateurish feel about them.

"Extreme" sports are entertaining to watch but it is a bit lame that the very best in the world still fail to land clean runs a lot of the time (at least in these Olympics, land a clean run and you are top 5 guaranteed almost)

The halfpipe is apparently very sloppy.

iPod had a really clean run, unlike Shaun. If Shaun White didn't clip the deck, he might have medal'd.

I believe the thing is they all know if they don't push their skill to the limit, they aren't going to get on the podium. So people will wipe out since they're not playing it safe, it's just the nature of the competition.

Yeah. At least slopestyle has specific elements plus speed and danger. More technically judgeable.
Halfpipe sucks. It's way too sloppy and subjective.

If they wanna add X Games stuff, add races, not judged events.

Potentially stupid question, but why does ski jumping even have judges?

Couldn't they just judge based on the distance they travel? Why does everything need style points?

There's also boardercross later. I agree with your sentiments on judges though. The scoring in the men's slopestyle was sloppy and soured the event debut imo.

Otherwise, everyone probably would just try to near-crash as far as possible. By having to land correctly, this behaviour is mitigated.

Also: tradition.

I guess.

Seems like the only one being able to judge landings is the guy from the country the landing's name comes from. Figures.

I agree, style points in ski jumping sounds really stupid.

Well you'd obviously have to land on your skis, add a line somewhere down the hill you need to cleanly pass.

It's like adding style points to long jump in the summer olympics.

Well, yes, but you can get much closer to a crash by just having to land on your skis than by having to correctly "stand" your landing.

Okay, COME ON NOW CARINA! FLIIIIIIIEEEEEG (as they say in Germany)!

I would think losing your life would be a good deterrent to not do crazy shit...

Yeah, men's board slopestyle judging seemed weird. The women's event judging seemed more logical.

The ski slopestyle seems OK, but when they lose speed somewhere it almost guarantees that they're not going get enough distance to land the last jump and just crash. That's a pretty dumb and unsafe part of it. Interesting event to watch, but not a really great olympic event.
