The lady ski jumping competition was actually... Well, competitve this time. Amazing the strides the sport has taken in such a short time. Fully Worthy olympic sport.

Very exciting in the end. You see IOC, it was a good event to add to the games.

All they need is competent judges (if this kind of score range happened in WC, several judges would be suspended right after competition) and not blind/drunk people like today.

Such a terrible Olympics for the US so far. If not for the new events we'd have zero golds so far.

Today was a particularly failtastic day, too.

The writing was on the wall when NBC was hyping up the same stars from the last several Olympics for these Olympics.

Both of our curling teams are 0-2 already? Are they actually that bad or have they just been off so far?
The women gave up 7(!) points in one end against Great Britain today and conceded the match when the score was 12-3 with several ends to go. They're pretty bad.

I want to say CTV's coverage was better than what we're getting from CBC, but they had the advantage of home crowds and the timezone. CTV's interviews were way better than CBC though, all the CBC hosts are robots in comparison, where's Strombo?

Somewhat emotional finish to the women's ski jump.

Wished I watched more of it, I was so tuned into luge and halfpipe today that I kept ski jump more in the background. Can only get away with watching so many events at work :lol

Takanashi has been beyond beast all season, seriously superhuman.. but this is a nice experience to have as well I guess, since she has so many olympics ahead of her.

Wow just saw Shaun White's first run. He tried so hard to recover from those issues (whether mistakes or course) twice. That's got to be so frustrating.

Onto the second run...

It was a pretty vocal group screaming about not having it in Vancouver, but women's ski jumping was basically only one year old. First World Championship was 2009, only been 3 World Cup seasons since then, so I can see why IOC hasn't made it an official olympic event until now.

It was a good event and I'm sure a welcome addition now that it's established. Will be in olympics forever now.

Holy crap. We're awful. I watched the match against Russia where we had the hammer and couldn't even get it to the scoring ring, gifting them two points in one end. I facepalmed and hoped it was just a fluke thing. Apparently not.

Apart of me thinks that the US is going to go on a tear next week.. But I know better.

The Shaun white 4th placement is a sign that were not gonna have a good olympics this year.

Completely agree. CTV's coverage was better, especially the announcers covering the events. Maybe there was the Vancouver hype, but CTV did a really good job with London too. I haven't been impressed with CBC's coverage so far.

The slovenian girl got screwed?

Several jumpers got screwed due to wierd scores from judges. Vtic included in the first jump. That botched landing is -1.5 score max, so she should get at least 16.5 or 17, and not 14.5 and 15 (in male ski jumping, this is equivalent to touching ground with hand during landing). And if this is also backed up from guy that is technical delegate on 1/2 of world cup competitions, probably means something.

But she is young and she will have more chances in the future. With such immense base that we have here in male and female ski jumping, there is no fear for future-

Americans need to chill out. You have like a dozen gold medal favorites coming up: Michaela Shiffrin, Ted Ligetty, men bobsleigh, Davis/White, Shani Davis, Heather Richardson, Noelle-Pikus Pace, Nick Goepper, Maddie Bowman, Kelly Clark, Lindsey Jacobellis and a few others.

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
iPod wins gold, the 15 year old Japanese kid medals AND SHAUN WHITE DOESN'T EVEN PLACE!!!

Best news I've heard all day. Riding such a wave of happiness right now.

Hey guys if I'm using a VPN to watch from the stream live from NBC site can I get in trouble for it? It asked me to select a Service Provider and I just selected TimeWarnerCable randomly and it said "Congrats, you've confirmed your subscription to TWC etc etc"

I don't know. But personally who cares NBC sort of deserves it. But I would seriously opt for CBC coverage regardless. NBC's layout isn't as good

yep. Vancouver was far more exciting then this event, IPOD almost single handily saved the competition but imo these whole Olympics have an rather amateurish feel about them.

The ski slopestyle seems OK, but when they lose speed somewhere it almost guarantees that they're not going get enough distance to land the last jump and just crash. That's a pretty dumb and unsafe part of it. Interesting event to watch, but not a really great olympic event.

I think the conditions are just too bad out there. It looks like they're skiing/boarding on sand. In the ladies ski whenever they came off the "cannon" feature they were landing in a puddle practically. You see them just come to a dead stop. Or at the bottom of jumps they'd hit big ruts. And when they dropped their poles, they'd climb back up the hill and you'd see them leave huge prints and kick up two inch divots as they slid down.

Course in BC looked a lot better.

Yeah, definitely. There is no way to adjust the course for different conditions and shorten that last jump.
The men's ski slopestyle might be OK because they should be able carry the speed and get enough distance to hit that last trick.

I'm watching on CNBC and a little bit ago they had their professional broadcaster read a tweet that was basically like "I want that brunette from Russia to teach me to curl lol #notinacreepyway." It was, of course, creepy.
