Nintendo Direct Feb 13, 2014 Thread | 3DS/Wii U Spring games

I think that was a decent ND. The 3DS is getting a lot of stuff the next few months (retail and digital) -- and we saw X, Bayo2, as well as got a MK8 date. But the thing that was bad was once again the lack of new Wii U stuff.

Now, I had said I didn't expect new Wii U announcements as Zelda U and the new NFC game are confirmed for E3 and will probably be saved, so it didn't shock me, but seeing all the even smaller stuff being announced for the 3DS once again showed how much more support it has. We just aren't seeing any new Wii U announcements. The best thing Wii U-wise was of course seeing X and Bayo2 but we've been waiting for them for a while. They really need a new announcement -- that coincides with, hey here's a date. It seems like we either don't get new Wii U stuff or it's a long ways off.

They really need a big reveal that gets people excited, followed by a release date within four months or something. That's why I have my worries about E3 as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see Zelda, NFC, and another announcement be 2015 stuff. They need something new for the Wii U and it can't be drip fed to us. Bayo2 and X I both have interest in, but they also show the issues with the Wii U's current situation. As, they're the best things we get for the console in every ND, and yet we've known about them for a long time.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. The ND was actually solid as a lot of exclusives big and small were shown -- but it just highlighted the Wii U's issues again. I'll happily buy DK next week, but I can see why the system isn't exciting people right now. It just needs more hyped announcements that have a proper date.
 
As per usual...anyone with a realistic expectation of what would be in Nintendo Direct should be pretty satisfied with it(other than USTREAM buffering being awful. Although at least the US and Japan could see it live on Youtube ..unlike us poor Europeans).
 
X looks fantastic. I loved Xenoblade Chronicles so that in HD with fucking transforming mechs sounds like a dream.

Bayonetta 2 looks amazing. Will preorder and get day one. I hope there is a limited/collectors edition or something with Bayo's blue guns to go with my Scarborough Fair preorder bonus from Bayo 1.

And Mac in Smash while not mindblowingly out of left field (like Wii Fit Trainer) was super cool.

I love having low expectations for Nintendo Directs :D
 
I'm sure seeing this will make Paz's heart skip a beat or two when he wakes up.

I guess I can see that. At the same time though, it's just like "did you watch the first two trailers?" I don't think anybody should've been surprised by what was shown when the trailers before this one indicated it would have a similar battle system to Xenoblade.
 
Damn that drought is going to be vicious this year. I almost bought a Wii U last year too. That Bayonetta 2 trailer got me kinda hype though. All in all, it was what I expected.
 
3DS has dissapointed me. Yoshi for March, nothing in april and Kirby and Mario Golf for May. That's it. 3 games for 3 months and I believe I'm not going to spend my time on a Mario Galf game without a RPG mode. I was expecting Nintendo would announce stuff like Fossil Hunters 3, Jam with the Band 3DS, Dragon Quest Monsters 2, Dragon Quest VII, Yokai Watch, Digimon World, Fantasy Life and of course Puyo Pop x Tetris.

Come on Nintendo, try a little harder! This is the best selling system of 2013 we're talking about here. All of third party abadoned it, so do something and YOU localize some stuff. Vita's 2014 lineup looks way better than 3DS as it is now.

How. All realistic expectations were Spring titles, small eshop games and indies, X, Bayonetta 2, and Smash

And it would've made a direct that that would've made me content, although maybe not extremely hyped, most of which was sarcastic

Seeing how GAF didn't die for over an hour, I'm assuming this was a "meh" Direct?

Oh well. E3 I guess.

GBA VC is good though. So it's bitter-and slightly aspartame for me.
 
Got on the PS4 wait list of my local games store yesterday. Feels good now.

Yes, MK8, X and Bayo2 looked great and they will probably the be some of the best games I'll play all year, but I knew that a year ago. Is ONE new announcement too much to ask for??
 
Damn I want X. Xenoblade combat was probably my favourite RPG battle system in many years, but despite that it was still rough around the edges, so upgraded, plus Dolls... Yes please.
 
I did expect to see more of Hyrule Warriors.
I don't it's summer anymore, unless it's september 21st.
Oh well.

I'll have to play X.
Seeing gameplay of any rpg ever bores me. Even my favorite rpgs. They're always more of a play thing.
 
X looked terrible. Not getting it now.
So its just Mario Kart and Zelda U I want on Wii U in the future then Im done with this disaster of a console.

Mario Kart 8 looked as fantastic as ever. Everything else was whatever. I was expecting a bit more with the 41 minute time investment they were asking out of people to watch this.

Yea, it is - what made anyone think they're would be big reveals today? It's a spring line up and they need to save press announcements for the e3 direct in 4 months

Absolutely nothing special here. About Wii U, gosh, Nintendo is heavily invested into the 3DS, don't they realize it's the otherwise that's actually needs big support to try an effort to turn things around? 3DS is already dominating, Vita is doomed, they don't need to put all their efforts on it anymore. Wii U is the platform now in need of primary support. Is their profit centric management really that stupid to not actually see that's happening?
 
As a WiiU owner, this one makes me a little nervous. They're iterating on announcements they made last January. It's been 13 months, and they don't have a single new announcement. I would have even liked to hear an announcement about their QOL initiative...I know they don't have to blow the doors off every time they do one of these things, but the last time they announced something new for WiiU was 13 months ago?
 
NES Remix 2 looks like it has more NES games that I actually like. Looks more interesting in general.

Almost makes me wish I didn't even get the first one, as good of a value as it is.

Then again, Remix 2 isn't out until April so, in a sense the first one is a good holdover.

With the football game are you talking about Inazuma or that Nintendo Pocket Football Club? I didn't see if that was mentioned cos the stream was down.
 
I wonder if there is any hope of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate coming out in Wii U. I really don't want to downgrade my Monster Hunter-ing until a portable. That's basically all I want right now.

Also some of the games they revealed looks like they were designed to be ported to mobile at some point.

Or they already know Wii U is dead so they are putting most of their effort into a platforom that still lives, the 3DS

I do not fundamentally disagree with the idea that Nintendo still does not have a good development schedule up and running, but you do realize that less than 2 months ago they announced a brand new game right?

New trailers for X and Bayo2, still loving what I'm seeing from DK, Yoshi, and Kirby. The new additions to Mario Golf look interesting. Some of that downloadable stuff is nice.

Spieler Eins I can understand hating everything there. Guy seems to hate everything Nintendo anymore. Even inventive stuff like Remix. But some of you expect too much (in some ways the bare minimum) but expecting more from Nintendo after nearly two decades of this stuff is insane. Really since the advent of 3D Nintendo has changed. Never being able to support their platforms to the expectations of gamers.

Get used to it. The games being made for both their handheld and home console are infinitely more advanced than the games they were making even three years ago. Their handhelds are increasingly more powerful. Somewhere around Vita to 360 level is expected of their next handheld.

This is only going to get worse for their largest titles. Longer and more drawn out between releases.

NPFC. It's a charming concept, but fuck me it was ugly, even for a 3DS game.

No, because Aonuma said it. Well, not like that. He has never rejected the rumours. Hell, he even said that "A Link Between Worlds would give answers to the MM 3DS rumours". And it's been three months now, and still not a single word about it. I think it has to be announced at least before Zelda U, which is most likely (read: 254%) getting announced at E3. I don't see them announcing MM 3D on the same E3.

Zelda Musou? Its developed my TecmoKoei, right?

I'm nervous that as it wasn't in the JP Direct it may be a 2015 game.

You can still have realistic expectations and be unsatisfied with it. I expected mediocrity and got it, so suddenly I should be satisfied? The next 6 months are barren on the Wii U.
 
So pumped for X and Bayo2. Really hoping that the multiplayer in X is minimal if there at all.

And that DKCR:TF music so good.

No new announcements though :(
