Nintendo Direct Feb 13, 2014 Thread | 3DS/Wii U Spring games

Figured there wouldnt be anything big. Nice to see x and bayonetta but it just confirms how barren wiiu is. Tbere is also a lack of stuff on the 3ds that I wNt either.

I think that this Direct has pretty much confirmed that Nintendo has shifted focus to creating software for the launch of their next system. They will release everything that has already been announced, plus random little piddling projects like NES Remix, and that will be that.

Still can't believe the first half of this year is even more barren than the first half of last year.

Damn thats so right, god imagine what next year will be like...

As a WiiU owner, this one makes me a little nervous. They're iterating on announcements they made last January. It's been 13 months, and they don't have a single new announcement. I would have even liked to hear an announcement about their QOL initiative...I know they don't have to blow the doors off every time they do one of these things, but the last time they announced something new for WiiU was 13 months ago?

a simple question: why in the world would they do it today when E3 is in 4 months?
And the last time they announced something was Hyrule Warriors, few months ago.

with that said, I didn't like X's new footage, but what I mean is that it felt weird, like a camera randomly recording a scene. Compare it to Bayonetta's... why Nintendo? Weird choice.
Apart from that, I'm satisfied.

What the hell was that Rusty baseball game? Who seriously thought that was a good idea to make?

The game looks boring, but the pricing looks... interesting. I'm rarely into free to play or microtransactions, and I doubt I'll pick this game up because it doesn't look like much fun.

But if a game has to be free to play, this is an interesting way to do it. It's sort of the opposite of how regular f2p/microtransactions work. Most are play less/pay more. This is play more/pay less.

It was actual gameplay...

Its a she. Ema
And she watched the whole thing

I was going to guess a she, but I changed my mind. Very cute kitty! Here's Eli playing Mario Galaxy 2:

I have a 3DS but I don't care for it, already has huge and amazing lineup.

Wii U
- Child of Light looks great
- Am I the only one excited for fucking DKC TF? Sheesh GAF c'mon!!
- MK8 looks insane, is it me or it looks even better than the last time
- X looked great but I have to agree the UI looks intrusive, so much going on. I mean you have what it looks like real party members on the left, mini map on the right, level on top and items on the bottom, I mean, USE THE FUCKING GAMEPAD!! I guess this could mean Gamepadless SKU incoming, i have no other explanation.
- Bayonetta 2 will be amazing!!

Man, that direct was worse than even I could have imagined for Wii U.....OK, maybe not, but poor, poor Wii U.

You weren't nervous enough post launch? Ever since then we've been expecting an anaemic Wii U game library, and nothing along the way has come to show us it'll be otherwise. Why think it's going to change now?

Wii U is fucked in the broader sense of the word. It'll be the little Nintendo firstparty/rehash/mish mash console

I'm already growing tired of a lot of Nintendo's "big games" before they even see the light of day. Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Bayonetta -- I feel like I've seen enough of the games at this point already. A case like Bayonetta is especially frustrating, since it'll probably be 2 years after its initial announcement when it'll finally see a release. The same is kind of true for X: It's still my absolute most wanted game, no matter which platform, but I'm tired of all the secrecy. Finally give it a name and tell us what it's actually about. It's been a year since it's announcement, already...

Really, the Directs are currently emphasizing the lack of Wii U games more than anything else.

Can't say I'm disappointed with this Direct, though. I'm not sure why people always need to hype those endlessly. I'm a little disappointed by the 3DS's line-up, though. There's just not much coming in the upcoming months that I feel interested in.

We got what we already knew was coming since last night, but no big extras in the Wii U department. That's kind of sad, but it wasn't a bad direct. Some people just hype way too much.

All I know is, I really hope we don't have to wait as long for the next direct...

Got a Wii U? Go to the eshop and watch the new MK8 trailer, WOW!! Then watch everything else.

MK8 launch will be hugeee!!

My bet is Nintendo is saving anything new for a big E3 showing this year. But the Direct was great for me, just missed something new, but like I said they got to save for E3.

I'm a die hard Nintendo fan but the WiiU is dead to me. I won't sell it but there are enough games for my Ps3 this year + I'll buy a PS4 in June because.....I'm a gamer and I only see two must have WiiU titles coming out during the next six months.

Maybe it's my sleep playing tricks on me, but you're contradicting yourself here. You want prove that they could announce it? Enough video and solid source interviews that he gives, not very subtle, hints that they are likely releasing a 3DS remake.

And still, it doesn't make sense. It's easy cash for Nintendo. A lot of Zelda fans want it. What is there to consider? The OoT 3DS engine is ready to be used again, so it's not like they're losing big money on it. And the yearning for (Spring or Fall?) 2015 Zelda U would be hugely soothed with a Fall 2014 MM 3DS release.

Nah, you're right, I have a terrible way with words. I'm just beyond the point of believing the rumor at this time.

It'd make sense to make the game for 3DS since as you point out, they still have the engine from OoT 3D and MM ran on the same engine but with more memory for textures/draw distance. To me his interviews and the context of the mask in the game just make me believe it's more like Reggie's Samus pin at VGX; a red herring, just something to keep the fanbase intrigued and excited.

Nintendo, it is so depressing that this entire company really seems to just be a company based almost completely on platforming.

Shows Action Beat'em up
Shows Soccer Simulator/Managing/Whatever
Shows PokeCrush game
Shows Contemplative FPS
Shows Platformers
Shows RPGs
Shows Dungeon Crawler
Shows Indies
Shows Golf
Shows Kart Racing
Shows SSB

"They only do platformers!!!"

Man, that reporter was right when he said last year that Nintendo had fired all its vaporware cannons. I feel like I am seeing preview videos of all the same big Wii U games I saw more than a year ago.

They don´t count. Come on, you know how this works. Back in line. ;)

So the new Wii U sku was BS :/

There was (i think) a new SKU in the jap direct. Could be wrong.

Where are the release dates Nintendo? Telling us games are coming "sometime this year" does not help inspire confidence to buy Wii Us. Remember when Pikmin 3 was extremely delayed?

If they had announced a release date for X for this Fall it would have been megaton. Instead its just another game in long development and who knows when it will be out.

Well, if you didn't pick Iwata as your successor, maybe the company would've been better prepared.

I am a big Nintendo fan, but it would be silly to expect every bit of news to be exactly what I wanted. I am glad to have seen more X footage, although I was hoping for at least a release "window" or something. Without that, everything else feels a little flat to me. It seems like 2/3 of the Direct was focused 3DS eShop titles, and none of those will ever warrant a purchase from me. This was a let down for me, guys.

Smash and Mario Kart's new character reveals were great.
Wish they had release dates already.

Seeing X's gameplay brought the hype down for me a bit and I didn't care much for
the other titles shown in the direct.

Wii U coverage was incredibly lackluster, but I'm interested in quite a few things on the 3DS.

Professor Layton looks great, I've never played any of the previous games though so I'm not sure if I should play it. Inazuma Eleven and Weapon Smith seem kinda cool. Kirby looks fun.

May I have a cookie?
here's everything I think is within the realm of possibility, in order of likelihood (more '?' means less likely..).
the main idea is focusing on first half of 2014, with an emphasis on western appeal.

  • [*]Tomodachi Collection Western Release in depth
screwed up big time with this prediction..
  • DKCTF launch trailer
check - amazing music! loved the darker tone of the trailer
  • Mario Kart 8 new info
double check - looks really really good
  • Kirby Triple Deluxe western release new info
    check
  • Yoshi's New Island 3DS new info
    check

[*]DS VC on Wii U details
got GBA which was announced way sooner so it makes sense
  • GBA VC on Wii U or 3DS details
    check

    [*]3D classics on 3DS

    [*]Pokemon Bank mention
    less time wasted

    [*]Club Nintendo nonsense
    even less time wasted
  • Smash Wii U and 3DS new info
super check! - Little Mac FTW

[*]NNID account integration/upcoming Wii U quick launch system update
missed, but I should have known better

[*]Sonic Boom Wii U/3DS new info
guess this is releasing later than I thought..
  • Bayonetta 2 trailer
    Hell Yeah!
  • X new trailer (title reveal?)
    Hell HELL YEAH!
  • eshop indie games new info (FAST on Wii U, on 3DS - maybe Moon/Ironfall?)
showed some of those, but no FAST unfortunately..
  • Steel Diver SubWars reveal + trailer
Looks really cool - Do Want!
  • Localization/release info on known 3rd party titles?
    that's a check
  • Unannounced Projects from Next Level or Retro or Monster or EAD/other subsidiaries????
check for NES Remix 2, Real Deal Baseball, and that other 3DS game I forget..

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Yarn Yoshi teaser?
  • SMT x Fire Emblem teaser?
  • Yoshi/Zelda DLC for Sonic Lost World - further info??
  • Hyrule Warriors further info??
  • Luigi's Mansion announcement?? (DLC, port, etc.)
  • Bayonetta 1 port???
  • Unannounced 3rd party multiplat????
  • Unannounced 3rd party exclusive?????

I did okay with my predictions, most of what I thought was reasonable happened, although I could have like some more meat on Wii U

X and Bayonetta 2 look very good. Mario Kart was all cutscenes so I can't judge. I hope they show more live gameplay soon. The new DK trailer looks fantastic. Smash 4 looks good. I'm disappointed Hyrule Warriors was a no show. GBA games finally though!

Good direct overall.

Finally got a chance to watch the direct. I thought it was pretty good. Especially the Lil' Mac section right off the bat. Inazuma Eleven was actually a great surprise. I'm downloading it right now.

X's battle system looking awesome. Can't wait to curb stomp some monsters in a Doll. Still, I wish we could have gotten a story trailer or at least the name reveal.

Bayonetta 2 looks hella sweet but that was a given.

Overall, quite happy with this Direct.

So no news of a Wii U version of MH4U means it's not coming, right?

:[

First, this was ONE Nintendo Directe out of maybe about 15 we are going to get this year, just like last year. MH4 3DS will be out in 2015, so it's really far away. There is still plenty of time to announce MH4U. It's actually very likely that they will do this.

Why are so many people begging for a recap? Go to youtube, search "nintendo". The direct is right there. Even if you are ultra lazy or impatient, the description of the youtube video lists all the games discussed.

DK Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, NES Remix 2, and Mario Golf World Tour I am already sold on. Shovel Knight and 1001 Spikes I will probably get on 3DS. Super Smash and Yoshi... I'll wait for reviews. Steel Diver I'll download the free version at least, I enjoyed the original one. X, Bayonetta 2, Layton, Kirby, Pokemon? Not interested.

Seems sorta thin, but then again the only non-Nintendo games on my radar for 2014 are Dark Souls 2, Legend of Grimrock 2, Hotline Miami 2, Strider, and Destiny. And "The Witness" assuming it's still on track for release this year...
