Xbox One new marketing, a Kinectless version and a game for 400? CBOAT: Maybe

They did it with the digital, "always online" plan. To me I wouldn't sense this as defeat. I would see it as actually listening to their customers, which is quite admirable.

Yeah, but if they can't guarantee to developers that there will ALWAYS be a Kinect, then no one will use it and all the R&D and development costs they put towards the Kinect will be for pretty much nothing. At a certain point Microsoft should stick to their guns because the Kinect is actually pretty cool when it works properly. Yeah, as a game console the Kinect's usefulness is questionable, but for navigating the UI and as a "home entertainment device" I've really enjoyed using it.

I'd be kind of disappointed if they dropped it, since it would get little to no support after for the folks who do have it.

Joe Consumer doesn't really care about the difference at this point. If it's the same price, it's preference and what your friends have. The games look close enough for a mainstream buyer.

They care enough to be buying PS4s and not Xbones. The longer MS waits to react to flagging sales gives Sony an advantage in not only power but also mindshare.

I can't see them dropping Kinect. The whole console was designed around it. Dropping it would be admitting that basically the entire philosophy and vision behind the One was wrong, and I don't think the One can survive or stand up to the competition as a standalone, games-focused console, even with a lower price point.

The OS was designed to use Kinect as an input, but you can unplug it and use the console without it today after the initial setup. The philosophy and vision behind Xbox One was having all your entertainment in place. Removing Kinect doesn't change that at all.

I think the possibility of having a Kinect-less SKU became real after Mattrick was given the boot. They just couldn't unwind it out of the OS in time for launch or couldn't change production plans fast enough to have the Kinect-less SKU available.

hello ambassadors.

It could be effective in US, elsewhere probably not.
They have a lot of image problems, should consider rebranding and a redesign sooner than later.

I actually rely on my kinect for alot of the features on the xbox one, so im somewhat glad to have mine.

Without it, they would need to make a massive overhaul of UI implementation. Which is probably better in the long run, honestly. But taking it out of the equation with the way the system is set up currently would be frustrating.

example) Game DVR/Recording clips is far easier by just saying "record that" rather than fumbling through menus for 5 minutes.

Still not worth it when it's competitor is selling a system at the same price that is technically superior in every way.

This is just common sense, really, and should absolutely happen.

I'm sure they would be more than willing to trade in their Kinect narrative to sell consoles.

In my opinion, it would help them at least maybe keep up with the PS4 in NA. WW though? Outside maybe the UK, I honestly think the X1 is finished.

Who am I kidding, they can do $199 and I still wouldn't buy it... No way I could go this whole generation knowing I didn't buy the more powerful 1080p console

Funny thing I'd they lower to the ps4 price point and remove kinect, then the consumer has nothing but one slower and one faster. Unless they start talking TV, TV, TV, sports and infinitely sophisticated experiences via the cloud. :D

I'm still trying to think of something Penello said that was actually true.

He actually just came back this week to say some true stuff about the Xbox One Headset adapter. He hadn't posted since the day after the Xbox One launch, but nearly 3 months later, posted a few truth bombs about the headset adapter. Which was much needed considering you needed a decoder ring to understand the PR release for the headset adapter to even understand how it really worked with other headsets. So give Albert Penello some credit, he got one thing right.

I have said from the beginning that Microsoft needed a Kinectless version with a lower price. I never thought forcing Kinect was a great idea, especially with no games to show why people need it. But now, if it happens less than a year after launch, after all the ways Microsoft told us it was needed, essential to the experience, its kinda embarrassing if true. I would be shocked if they dropped the price and Kinect this summer.

$349 bundled with Sunset Overdrive, Destiny or Halo 2 Anniversary and I'll jump in.

I don't think it will be Destiny or Titanfall to be honest. It's not a good idea to make your bundled game with your cheaper SKU require a Gold membership before you can even play the damned thing.

Smarter to put one of the offline-capable games in there.

Another Cboat post where he adds a disclaimer to cover himself in case it turns out to be BS and you lot lose your minds...smh

Didn't ntkrnl reveal this already anyway?

So, to those of us not in the know, what is the deal with cboat?

he inadvertently blew the cover of one of his sources via not rehosting image links given to him.

the tinfoil hat crowd thought this source of cboat's was actually cboat, and they also inexplicably thought this source was a GAF mod when he never was. because they're crazy tinfoil hat wearers.

cboat's anonymity is still intact.

To the people saying this won't happen because of the money that's gone into Kinect: do you really think that matters to MS? Besides, the Xbox division is once again billions in the red, so what's another couple hundred million?

Ooooh! I'm down at $400. I'd been holding out for next-gen cause of the expenses. Hope that free game is Killer Instinct.

If the exclusive lineup ends up being quality, currently some upcoming games are intriguing but actual quality is an open question, then I'll pick one up at $299. This could mean that could happen by 2015 or so, just in time for Halo.

If they drop the price in less then a year I am going to need a credit of some sort. It bad enough I don't use the thing. But to not use it and pay more is crazy

Even with inferior hard, 400 with a game is getting back into the race with agressive price. No doubt 360 like marketing will make it sell like hot cakes.

Still can't believe how bad the marketing was for XBO when they were so agressive and efficient with 360
