Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Spent an hour with the game now, and as it was already mentioned quite a few times in this thread, if you're into CoD you could like it. I think the hype set the expectation bar way too high.

That's all it is, really. CoD with parkour and mechs. The A.I. bots everywhere feel like a failed concept. I can see the developers having sat around a table, having an excited discussion about players running alongside bots and it feeling like a large-scale assault, but in practice it just doesn't work well. The bots are easy to kill and pose almost no threat, so rather than positively contribute to matches/the gameplay, they're just annoying. And as usual, there is absolutely no teamwork to be had. Every man runs around for himself and VoIP is not utilized because really there's no need to communicate anything to your teammates in such a fast-paced, selfish game.

Yeah, think I'll cancel my pre-order. Like, the game is undeniably fun, I just don't really see what it's offering to justify a full retail price. Maybe if it were 30-40$.

Everyone justifies value differently, but when I can buy a singleplayer game for $60 and play through it maybe once or twice for 15-20 hours and be happy, I have no problem paying $60 for a multiplayer game that I may play for hundreds of hours.

Well, I only paid $45 for Titanfall, anyway. Thanks, GMG!

Lol, the opponent teams sucked. Like any multiplayer game, some players are better than others.

what I mean is the maps are pretty big and the number of humans is relatively small so you never feel like one team is owning the game. Even if you're losing you never feel like the other team has control of the map. maybe that's a good thing? idk. need to play more.

I would say this is my biggest complaint so far. The game is just really really easy.

I've won 6 of the 7 games I've played by a huge margin and lost one but even then I never felt like we were getting beaten really. It's weird.

think it may be because you get to make a run for it and disembark

This game is robust and very polished. It also plays liquid smooth and fast. I'm really liking it so far.

The gun fights can be very boring with new players but when you encounter an experienced player the gun fights turn into Matrix movie fight scenes. Loving it.

So I'm playing on the X1 and I have mixed feelings about it.

On one hand, I need more time with the game and the full game before I can properly judge it, but based on what I've played so far, it really does feel empty.

Granted, I haven't played with any of my friend yet. It just feels weird having all of these bots and how easy they are. Also, not a huge fan of all this lock on stuff.

Oh and the wall running feels weird. I don't get the rush from it I thought I would, like when doing crazy shit in Mirrors Edge. It feels so automatic.

I'm still excited to play more and I will probably still get the game to play with friends. Just some initial disappointments so far.

Bha! Had I known the servers were down, I wouldn't have quite out of my lobby for a short break.

Anyone else using a 360 controller on PC? Unlike most PC shooters, I'm not having a problem winning gun fights against other humans. Although I do recognize that it's still a disadvantage.

Game is amazing. Objective modes are the best in this, having that extra mobility makes them a lot of fun.

I'm using my pad on the PC version to, it really works very well with this game.

Anyone else's beta keep crashing to the dashboard after the splash screens?? It gets up to the rotating loading sign then goes back to the Metro UI...I already tried restarting and re-installing but nothing works :(

i originally thought it would be difficult to notice pilots on the minimap and in real time due to the bots.
however im finding that locating pilots on the mini map is surprisingly easy due to the giant dark red symbol.

also in real time, i always seem to catch them in cloak or sprinting/parkouring so that helps as well.

would be cool however if pilots... idk.. had like beefier armor than the bots or something?

anyone else hate the AI aspect in this game. I don't want to pound on stupid AI bots.. take them out and bump it up to 8v8 or 10 v 10

the just adds nothing to the game

So I’ve been playing this morning level 14 already, this are my thoughts:

-DESIGN:

- Sometimes innovative design is counter-intuitive, but that is point; if the changes were obvious, everyone would do them. Reading some of the key design choices as bullet points for TitanFall make for a eyebrow raise: bots? parkour? Mechs vs Infantry?

- TitanFall is a delicate balance between all their parts, There is no fillers, no bullet point features to sell the game. It does feels the content is lacking when you read it: only 3 mechs, 6v6, etc. However, they all put together make for a fun formula that allow you to succeed with various layers of skill:

- You can play smart and farm grunts, which actually farming them has a nice tactical layer to it, you can easily have tunnel vision and get killed over and over again, I do find really smart the way they distribute along the map. When they said they were like minions in a Moba, I literally imagine them running from one corner to the map to the center like hamsters, noup.. they in fact are positioned in the maps hot-spots, The more you farm the more you risk yourself.

-Infantry vs Mech: Playing against a mech its fun, a hide and seek game, its all about awareness, map positioning and being clever.

-Mech vs Mech/Infantry: It feels like a time against the clock, you know you are the center of attention and you want to do as much damage as possible before that prick rodeo you finally doom your mech to death. Pure adrenaline for me. The titans controls and tune is pretty well done, the dash and the vortex field are key pieces to succeed in a Titan, it’s all about the timing.

-So basically in a 10min match I feel like I played 3 different matches with different challenges that force me to think differently, that is a good stuff in a videogame.

-LEVEL DESIGN

- IMO TitanFall level design is just genius, it is the key for the subtle balance between mechs and pilots, The map design allows for basically 2 multiplayers game to be happening at once. The buildings scale position allow for pilots to be insidious bugs biting the Titans heels, and while in a Titan the city scale turn the map into a more classic close quarter map, it is all about the scale.

-GUN FEEL

-Yeah, it is pretty good.

-TECHNICAL STUFF

- I’m guy who like the way CS:GO and TF2 looks... so mhee don’t care for visuals, they are functional, a bit bland but in some sense I think it is a good thing because there is so much stuff going on all the time... a saturated environment would subtract for the experience, that is my perception but is hard to tell really.

-Technical Stuff that Matters: Frame rate feels consistent even when shit goes crazy, hit detection is source engine good(so yeah is good), and there is the usual lag spike here and there, For a beta thou, feels polished as fuck.. I mean after BF4, I guess the bar is low now.

-Versions

I’m level 3 on PC, and lvl 14 on XBOX One, as I said I’m not a big “visuals quality” guy, they both look kind of the same to me honestly, Weird enough I’m kinda leaning towards the Xbox one version. Mostly because the parkour feels better in a control according to me. On PC It got to a point I get a little bit deezy.. (even with 90 degree FOV), but that is probably just me being old now.

So that’s it, I like it a lot..

after spending 3 hours just on the pc beta, im quite disappointed.

yeah its fast, and it can be fun when u have a good titan vs titan-battle,
but my main complaints are that the bots are totally ruining the fun for me.

Oh.. i just killed a running script.. and another one, heh this one is running into a wall, oh nice they are just sitting crouched. in a tight space.

Knowing u just took out a human player is satisfying. this.. is not.

To add to that, i ended up more than i wanted in just empty parts of the map, accompanied by very bland and flat gfx. on max settings.

This game is really hyped up too much, but i can see it will become a hit amongst the casual crowd who just want to run around and shoot.. things.

Really?! When was this! I must have missed it :(

Yep, I've seen some pretty pathetic justifications for the AI bots followed by "you don't have the game so your opinion is irrelevant."

The bots are as core to this game as bots are to MOBA games. People are going to have to learn to accept this or play something else. The whole concept of the game involves using them.

could not agree more. BOTs are f-ing stupid. NOt fun at all

Excited to start playing this game.

If anyone's looking for some games and will consider playing the game regularly when it launches, feel free to shoot me a friend request on XBL.

Also, preferably people in the US. Playing with GAF'ers in Europe leads to bad connections for someone.

Played a couple games, plays great on the ps3 controller on pc. So the bots are in every mode? i only tried attrition and i like the graphics and feel, its alot more arcadey than i was expecting with huge sound and constant action. sucks the servers are down D:
