Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Would be nice to play and give impressions but game is saying servers are down. Guess they need to open the doors a little bit more to get more folks in.

anyone else hate the AI aspect in this game. I don't want to pound on stupid AI bots.. take them out and bump it up to 8v8 or 10 v 10

the just adds nothing to the game
I don't want more players cause 6v6 titans is plenty for these maps but I sure hope there is a mode without the AI. O intentionally avoid them because more often than not a pilot is going to spot me while I'm killing the excessively stupid grunts.

I don't mind them really, they make the maps seem more active (and as someone said, I think they're used to lower the titan timer) - I do however feel the game really needs a MOBA style mode/map that uses them like minions and the pilots being the heroes.

Really?! When was this! I must have missed it :(

You have to have your account settings set up to allow them to e-mail you special offers. They sent out a coupon a few weeks ago, and I got another one this morning, actually.

Also, about the level design, if the other maps in the full game are as good as Fracture/Angel City, Respawn easily has the best MP map makers in the biz. Angel City alone is better than all the maps that CoD: Ghosts shipped with put together.

I agree. That would be perfect

This is exactly what I thought it was, it would be pretty awesome.

When you hit a sweet spot in play, it just feels right. And I'm not too mad even after being the worst player on the team every now and again.

Something else I thought was cool; the bots seem to have a few dynamic events I come across every so often (dragging wounded comrades, executing a captured enemy) and although they pass quickly, it's nice to see some variety and not just the usual rush.

If people don't want to kill AI bots, why are they killing AI bots? In all my games I've basically just ignored them until they are in my way. If you're always moving to confront a Titan or cap a flag, the bots shouldn't be much of an issue.

If you're running around hunting bots, well...

Hmm, performance seems ghastly on my 6950. I don't get it. This is a Source engine game.

I'm getting 58-60 on my 6950. Everything med - high ND Vsync on. I think I'm still on the 12 drivers.

Maybe it's your processor or a combination of certain settings.

Away from the game at the moment, but can you melee the soft spot when you're riding enemy titans?

That's all it is, really. CoD with parkour and mechs.

But the parkour and mechs make it feel very un-cod, it feels very un FPS. I loved it and enjoyed it almost instantly. I generally get frustrated quickly with competitive FPS - Halo, COD, BF - because I don't play 6 hours a day. Not so here. Granted I've only played it for 20 mins with people equally new to it. But fun. Lots of fun. Pretty enough. Smooth. Clearly next gen. But not gorgeous. Am tempted to get digital copy - it's one of those games that'll be worthless in a couple of months as everyone who wants it will buy. Might as well enjoy disk free.

My impressions so far:

exactly

OH MAN! I have an hour to kill before I go out for Valentines dinner and such... PC servers all down. :(

On the plus side I will not be buying a Xbone just yet very satisfied with 360 controller versus KB&M. I just hope PC community has lasting power with this one it's fun but PC people are weird. :)

Bring on a $400 Kinectless Titanfall bundle M$!

I am playing right now but the matchmaking seems to have problems (PC).
After playing BF4 conquest, the matches are over way too fast.

6950 unlocked to 6970 - Q9550@3.9

1080P everything on High, AA low.

I get 55-60 constant, game runs smooth

Killing bots puts you on the radar of every player I love it when someone just sits there and kill bots makes it easy to sneak up on them.

It's not that I'm hunting for bots, it's that they seem to be all I can find. Maybe I'm just not used to the fact that you should never been on the ground level as a pilot. I need to utilize wall running and double jumping more often.

That's all it is, really. CoD with parkour and mechs. The A.I. bots everywhere feel like a failed concept. I can see the developers having sat around a table, having an excited discussion about players running alongside bots and it feeling like a large-scale assault, but in practice it just doesn't work well. The bots are easy to kill and pose almost no threat, so rather than positively contribute to matches/the gameplay, they're just annoying. And as usual, there is absolutely no teamwork to be had. Every man runs around for himself and VoIP is not utilized because really there's no need to communicate anything to your teammates in such a fast-paced, selfish game.

Way too soon to say this. People were calling Shadowrun CS lite when it is different from CS and it took almost 2 months for the majority of players I ran into to adjust and understand the tools the game provided to you. I played Shadowrun like Halo for the first week and did well until I ran into a guy that dominated the whole match with teleport, smoke wired reflexes and a sword while his teammates used nothing but teleport, gust, trees, and pistols.

When a few guys start popping up that get the free running mechanics the game will change.

I like it so far, but I'm a bit disappointed.

Fighting with Titans isn't as fun/engaging as I'd thought it be. I'm only level 7 so far, so I;m hoping the customizing options will make it more to my liking. Really liking the ground combat though.

Killing bots in Attrition can mean the difference between winning or not due to the points you get from them.

I generally avoid them, but that's frankly a bad habit if it seems like I'm in the clear. If there are no pilots around or you have a silenced weapon, you should definitely be killing bots.

The big red dots on the mini-map are the best indicator of pilots. That and dudes running on roofs.

Only got a couple of matches in, but it's fun. Also like that I don't feel at huge disadvantage with the 360 controller on PC. The graphics are decidedly last gen. I'm on a 580, had to turn down the textures to high...gonna mess around with different v-sync options later. Might need to drop one more setting to get a better frame rate while in the titans.

Only played 3 matches so far now waiting for the servers to come back up but damn this game is amazing. It all feels so natural and smooth and everything just seems to play so perfectly. There really isn't a single aspect that I dislike so far. Respawn has done an incredible job. I'm sure once I get a chance to play more that I'll have a chance to nitpick some stuff but so far it has all the makings to be a long term multiplayer game for my friends and I.

Out of three matches I played two of them were Last Titan Standing which is way more fun than I thought it would be. If you can get some decent teammates that know how to protect their Titan and know when to strike then it becomes such an insanely fun and chaotic (in a good way) mode.

The other match I played was Hardpoint Domination which pretty much about what you would expect. The methods of traversal just make it unlike anything I've ever played really. Wall running and jetpacking to areas is fun in and of itself. Add on the ability to put your Titan in guard or follow mode and there's so much depth to a seemingly simple game mode.

I like the AI bots, they're actually a great distraction when trying to flee from enemies. More often than not, if you jump into a room with friendly bots, the enemy trying to look for you ends up going after bots and you can get the jump on them.

So before the servers went down...I called down a Titan and it landed on an enemy Titan and killed it instantly. Pure luck. I didn't know this was possible.

I think I'm pretty much sold on this game.

Would love some new friends on Origin PC. Add me: Ducayne

Will be playing tonight and tomorrow all dayz

I added you, I don't have anyone on my friends list on Origin. I have literally doubled my total Origin playtime with 5 hours of Titanfall -> 5 hrs BF3 vanilla. :)

I will be on all afternoon and evening tomorrow untill prolly 9ish when UK plays.

EDIT: Origin id - SHADY859

Playing on PC. Game runs flawlessly, but there's no way this is worth 60$. Gameplay is fun but simplistic as hell, maps are tiny and the game modes are uninteresting.

after spending 3 hours just on the pc beta, im quite disappointed.

yeah its fast, and it can be fun when u have a good titan vs titan-battle,
but my main complaints are that the bots are totally ruining the fun for me.

Oh.. i just killed a running script.. and another one, heh this one is running into a wall, oh nice they are just sitting crouched. in a tight space.

Knowing u just took out a human player is satisfying. this.. is not.

To add to that, i ended up more than i wanted in just empty parts of the map, accompanied by very bland and flat gfx. on max settings.

This game is really hyped up too much, but i can see it will become a hit amongst the casual crowd who just want to run around and shoot.. things.

Yup, the bots completely ruin the game. They need to make it so that the AI is competent enough to be able to kill you.

Well I got in my first PC match, everything was fine for about 5 minutes and then I got inside a titan, frames from from 60 to 20-30 and I crashed a couple minutes later.

The bots see very useless to me, I wish they weren't even in the game, the game's hectic enough without them. Their AI is absolutely horrendous, they feel like they're not supposed to be there.

That may be it. I guess the reason I never run into them is I hit the roofs as soon as a game starts and spend all my time moving from high point to high point, unless I need to cap a flag. Then I dip down, kill anything that moves, and get back up on the roof.

High ground is king.

also 6v6 and lets say 2 or 3 are in a titan, that means there are only 3 human pilots on the map to kill, the rest bots... just stupid and not fun at all
