Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Guys, the smart pistols kill grunts (ai controlled bots) in one hit, but in order to kill a real person, it takes 3 lock ons to kill them (harder than it sounds).

Ya people v saying its op are wrong imo. I had an easier time just using the assault rifle than trying to lock on.

I guess I just haven't played enough yet. I just don't se the hype. The bots are friggen dumb. Worse than combat training in CoD dumb. The parkour/jet pack abilities are done very well in contrast to some other FPSs and are easily pulled off but the rest of the game is just meh.

The combat is overall bland even when the Titans are duking it out. The CoD influence is very strong in this game. Not that that is necessarily bad per se but all the hype about how this game is revolutionary and amazing seems like hyperbole to me.

The graphics even on PC are subpar TBH and it just has not grabbed me yet despite playing several matches and modes. When the servers finally come back up I'll give it some more time but at this point it's a no buy for me.
I don't know how it translated to gameplay (because I can't get into a server) but the game is fun as hell to watch. So that's why people are hyped for it.

Playing this game with friends and rolling over fools is so satisfying. Last Titan Standing is surprisingly fun. Kinda gives you the same rush that Warzone and Execution does in Gears.

I'm looking through the stats(there's a lot, which I love) and I notice on the kill breakdown by weapon it says

Total Kills
Pilot Kills
Grunt Kills
Spectre Kills
Marvin Kills

Anyone know what a Marvin is? I have zero, but it sounds like another class of bots.

Finally played a match. Game is pretty solid. It does a lot of things very well. I do wish more of those bots were real people though. With the slop AI, it definitely feels more like a carbon copy of an all-out war at times. Titans are plentiful, which is good. I was afraid it would be like Battlefield where you have people sitting by popular vehicle spawns for half the match.

I just went on a fucking 20 kill streak rampage at the beginning of the game instantly with the stryder, the faster running speed combined with the 3 dashes is insane I love it.

Marvins are the old name for spectres. Don't know why that would still be in the game.

These servers need to boot faster and support more players so that I can play this game. This screen is starting to get burned into my retina.

Does this game expect that I indefinitely stay in a team where 2-3 people die 10 times without contributing? Where is the team balance.

I can get MVP 5 times in a row while losing and the teams stay the same.

I am getting some wicked poor performance in game.

GTX570, I had everything turned down to the lowest and I was getting fluctuations between 20-50fps but it was like a rollercoaster frame rate - all over.

This game, holy shit.

I am so fucking good at this game. Day one purchase and I was barely interested before. So much fun blasting music and using the Tank.

Played first game... came in first.

Very amazed at how fun it is. Seems to capture the bite-sized fun of COD, with the versatile variety in "epic moments" of Battlefield. Very jealous that I can't get this on PS4.

Seems like a solid fun game

Mobility is nice, really satisfying to move around. So far what it makes me want is a FPA ala Metroid Prime but with a non-hideous engine using the satisfying movement set. Angel City design cracks me up - super awesome city with like a million potential jumping and wallrunning possibilities, but you're contained to the middle of the city in some sort of Central Park metal crate world. It's hilarious.

The game itself has remarkable similarities to Call of Duty on foot provided you don't do the double jumps/wall running, and of course that's the big strike against it for me off the bat. Thankfully the wallrunning and jumping is there, because it does make it more enjoyable to just get around.

So far though things like the smart pistol, some of the weapon balance and many other issues that have returned to show their ugly faces from other modern designed competitive FPS continue to turn me off. I can only imagine how bad it is going to be when all the challenges and whatnot are there and we have half the asshat team trying to knife people in midair because they need JUST TWENTY MORE to get a medal or some shit. I'm sure the perk system in place will similarly eviscerate balance too, like it does in all other modern FPS that have it. Unfortunately nothing in the demo assuaged my fears in that regard either.

It is really neat to move around though. I'll give it a few more rounds before deciding definitively whether it'll ever be for me or not, but this is the type of game I think I'd play if it were F2P but with a market system like Team Fortress 2. So far, that's where I'm at. Too early though to make final proclamations
