Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Is anyone playing on X1 WIFI and having trouble with lag? I shows my connection is full bars in game but I've played about 20 games or so and all of them have stuttered and lagged quite a bit. Wondering if going wired to the router would make a difference.

When I get home from work I'm going to try a different mode besides attrition. It's fun but I think this game could benefit from some more objective type matches instead of the simple TDM kind of mode.

I don't seem to be able to connect (PC). I only get Attempting connection, counts to 10 and then it tries to retrieve the matchmaking list and that pattern repeats endlessly. Anyone having the same issue or know what's up?

Edit: Never mind, worked when I switched server.

Game is good fun. Nothing revolutionary but good fun. Respawn however needs to shoot whoever thought bringing an aimbot pistol into a first person shooter was a great idea.

When you first enable windowed it might not be borderless. Restart the client and it should be fine.

It wasn't initially borderless and anytime I start the client it is full screen as well even if the options say it is running in a window. I have to switch back to full screen. apply. then switch to run in window. apply. then it works. kinda weird. Always works on the 2nd time I change the setting.

But actually playing is much better. Before the stuttering was starting to give me a headache :/

So, stupid question... I entered my Titanfall Beta code and it says "congratulations you now own Titanfall beta," but... How do I get it to start downloading? Where do I go?

Sorry just got an Xbox One this weekend

*edit*
NM, it's in active downloads in the games area. I expected an XBox notification to say "download started" or whatever.

Nope, can't get it to run even semi-decently. Getting the same visual glitches as some others plus it averages around 15 fps lol. My laptop served me well. I guess its time will be up soon :(

The capture the point mode is a lot more fun. I was pretty tired of TDM after a few rounds myself.

So after 2 solid hours this morning I have to say I'm in love. It's not perfect but it's a damn fun game. I can't say I'm a fan of the parkour. It just seems that sometimes when you so desperately need to get somewhere it doesn't work. The maps though do have plenty of spots where you can just wall climb. So that helps.

The game is hectic as hell without a doubt. A friend put it best. It's like they rolled Quake,Halo, and Mechassault all into one game. It works very well too. Even when sucking like I usually do you don't feel like you suck. the weapons feel good to shoot. Without a doubt Respawn and EA have a hit here. I have no doubt about that one bit.

Isn't it useless against human players? I thought it was just for racking up quick bot kills to get your Titan faster from the impressions.

Running like butter for me, 4770/R9 280x.

Really enjoying it, managed to get the brain damage challenge done. Called in my Titan just as another appeared, watched them fight for a bit before jumping on the top of the enemy one, brilliant.

Are you sure it isn't just fullscreen windowed? What happens when you press the Windows key?

It has the highest Time to Kill of any standard primary gun in the game vs. pilots. In a head to head confrontation just about anything else will win. If the player catches you off-guard it doesn't matter what gun he/she is using.

I can see his point but I disagree. It's not useless against pilots but you have to get 3 lock ons. This is what makes it balanced I think. I've very rarely get killed by the pistol. I've killed a couple people with it but again it's hard to get that 3rd lock on most of the time. Overall I'm ok with it. The game is so hectic and the amount of lock ons for players balances it I think.

I've been killed by it a few times. The best gun is the assault rifle to me. Shotty right after that. The other guns just seem pointless. AI units are just annoying. They get in the way of the action. I've caught myself chasing them down thinking they're a pilot.

I just played the PC version with my controller and went 20-6.

It seems a little silly I can do that. It's not really a skill based game, more like a point-simulator disguised as a real FPS.

It'll sell 7 billion copies.

It locks on any players within 20 feet, and it kills stupidly quickly. They need to tone down the firing rate and lock on then maybe it won't be as stupid.

If by stupid quickly you mean slower than any other primary, then yes, it kills stupid quickly. I suspect you're not bothering to count the time it takes to get 3 locks on a Pilot and/or are using the Amped version of the gun as your baseline for complaint.

Yea. That's another thing that bugs me. I'm torn on them. They help fill in the maps but I do find myself running into the same thing. I'll be dueling with a pilot then lose site for a second and think an AI is them and chase them down. So yea I'm torn on them.

Them feels when you jump on a teammate's titan and take out an enemy titan with a rocket launcher while screaming "King Kong ain't got nothing one me!!"

It takes a good 5 seconds for it to lock three times on a player in order to kill them. If you get killed by it it is because they got the drop on you, which you would die by any other weapon anyway. I have played for around 15 hours and have died to that pistol maybe 10 times. I don't understand the problem people have with it all.

Definitely not useless. It takes a little longer to lock on and you need to lock on 3 times to get a kill from one pull of the trigger, but it isn't too bad. But it does absolutely destroy bots. I use it to level up quick because everything against grunts is a headshot with it and I can chain together a bunch of them easily. Kind of sad.

My impressions so far: Enjoyably fun, but nothing amazing. The most fun is rodeoing on an enemies titan. But the garbage part is the bots. Generally I have about 8 pilot kills and nearly 30 bot kills. Just wish it had more players and NO bots.

What do you guys mean by 3 locks? Does that mean it takes three clips to kill a fellow human player or you have to wait for the pistol to lock on to a target? How many seconds would you estimate that to be?

I cut some raw footage last night on PC with ShadowPlay.

I was testing out the smart pistol. I don't know if I'll keep using it. Seems nice for taking out grunts but the lock on is tough for regular enemies. Played enough of the game so far that I think I'll buy it. I hope the final version has more maps like Angel City. I find this map way more interesting to play than the other one ( name escapes me ). There are a lot of different routes you can take in Angel City, whereas the other map seems way too open. Harder to take out Titans as a soldier!

Nope. It locks onto the enemies. With AI it only has to get 1 lock on before you can shoot and kill them. With a human player it must lock onto them 3 times before you will get a kill. So you hold it on them until you get your 3 lock ons and then bam they die like you would kill the AI with it.

After a bit more time, I am liking the game more and more. There are some really hectic matches to be played. I still need time playing the other game modes.

I am really glad they were able to balance out camping and the feeling that being in the bottom half of the rankings is the worse thing. Most matches you come away feeling you at least did decent.

Really crappy perfomance in my humble rig (560ti, 4GB RAM, i3-530). Considering this is source engine it's pretty sad :(

I think there have been a few reports with the performance of 560ti and similar spec cards being lower than expected. Seems to be less of a middle ground performance wise with this game, many are getting either 60fps or way less depending on their specs. I would be interested in performance of the Minimum required specs.

Interesting.

Do you think the enemy AI needs a buff or would getting killed by aimbots CoD veteran style piss you off? It sounds like the computer isn't even a challenge for people at this point and is just there to make the maps feel less empty.

Their function is to be dota creeps.

Instead of farming them for 'gold', you farm them to reduce your titan cooldown. Their purpose is not to be difficult or be replacements for human players.

The smart pistol also locks so slow against the cloak that its a death sentence to try to lock with it, even moreso than than normal

I used the smart pistol enough to unlock the 'faster lockons' attachment, and it's still slower to kill than any other weapon. I gave up on it after that. It might have some applications for parkour fighting on certain maps, but otherwise, eh.

The amped smart pistol is a cheesy aimbot pistol, but that's a one shot burn card, and still has all the range restrictions of the regular smart pistol, and can still get screwed up by a grenade or shotgun or ranged enemy or titan or or or or, same as any other gun

Parkour tips:

Wall running builds speed. Run along a wall as far as you can and then jump to get maximum distance. You can jump enormous gaps from a max distance parkour kit wall run.

Delay your second jetpack jump to get maximum distance.

You won't wall run off the jetpack jump immediately. From what I can tell you start running again after the 'boost' from the jump wears off, plan accordingly.

Similarly, to run up a wall straight, run into and up the wall, then jetpack, then jump off the wall if you still need more height. You can scale realllly high walls if done right.

Hold the left trigger to cling to a wall mid-wall run and you can aim and fire while you're sticking to the wall.

It's almost always safer and faster to wall run as much as possible to a location than it is to get on rooftops. Better players who are hunting pilots will spot you and kill you on rooftops very quickly.

General tips

Cloak is total invisibility to Titans except for your jetpack flames. Be careful with that in close proximity, I gibbed a pilot who tried to flee while cloaked and I smashed him with titan weaponry.

You can hear an enemy pilot rodeoing your titan before the warning pops up. Get out of your titan fast enough and you can kill them before they deal any damage. Just be sure not to do so near other titans :D

Similarly, you can hear when an enemy gets out of their titan near a point, it's a really loud sound. Be ready for them to come in soon after!

There are weapon mods for the titan mods if you didn't notice them already. Accelerator on the Chaingun is awesome.

Vortex shield works just fine on archer rockets. Pick em up and gib the pilots trying to shoot you with their own artillery.

Game owns, can't wait for the final. Really eager to see the other maps, titans, and unlocks.

Can I get some clarification? I am running WIndows 8.1. I should play Titanfall in window mode and turn in game v-sync mode off? What about any of the Nvidia control panel v-sync modes?

Im getting serious artifacting on my laptop (710m) on the models (hands, enemies) even though the game runs smooth. Im updating drivers at the time to see if it helps.

I've been playing for a bit, and i'm not very much impressed. Also the fact that there are no south american servers is a huge drawback.

In addition, in the Hardpoint capture mode, if you don't take them out and let them run, they will capture points and many times they'll wind up backcapping your stuff if you aren't on top of it.

Ok just played for about an hour on PC, I take back everything I said about this game being a COD clone. It's a blast to play but it's ugly as sin.

I'm actually going to pick this up day one on PC.
