Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Has there been any mention on customization options in the full game? I would love to be able to make my titan unique by changing its color and what not.

I'm asking again (sorry!) :

On PC, using the controller, autoaim is already active ?
Yeah it already active in the beta.

Its very slight, but as your tracking onto a target it kinda very slightly pulls you onto it - it actually took me quite a while to notice it.

I guess I also don't necessarily understand the specific need to systematically locate player-controlled opponents exclusively.

I just move around the map as I see fit, killing whatever gets in my way.

Right, and I get that, and i'm sure that's what they're going for. They just want players killing things and being engaged, whether human or AI.

I think that works on a more mass market level, but it's not clicking for me. I think I was looking to get something more competitive out of it, as opposed to something that's clearly built to foster excitement on more of a moment-to-moment basis. I've defended their choice of 6v6 with creeps in the past, but after putting some time into the game i'm not sure it works beyond the "yeah bro i'm so good at killing all the things" casual angle. Mechanically it lacks substance, only serving as a throwaway to further the progression towards your titan.

They inform the player that grunts exist (and what they are), but they don't want the player to think about that. And I think few of them will.

See, with me, I've had Counter-Strike as my goto competitive FPS for 14 years now. And for a long time, I had Call of Duty as my goto casual FPS.

Then I got bored of CoD, and needed something new to replace my casual FPS. That is Titanfall. I got exactly what I wanted out of Titanfall. I still have my Counter-Strike, if I want something more hardcore.

I am genuinely surprised at how fucking terrible I am at this game. It quickly reminded me that I could never keep up in Call of Duty, and this is just that. And being in the Titans is boring as hell.

Be patient. Put yourself in GOOD situations. That means don't run into areas where youc an be shot from many angles. Be in control of your destiny.

I agree.

I'm finding the main menus to be really ugly having the 2d pilots and titans plastered around all the text selections, it just looks all out of place the way they're designed and posed.

Black Ops did it right with those 3d models, that are only viewed when you actually want to customize them

Just had 28 pilot kills on hardpoint with over 1000 in both capture and defense. Shotgun in angel city = lol

Thanks so much :)

I asked because I played some games with MKB first and then some with DS4.
I was really surprised ... Playing with the DS4 I noticed I was still very competitive and after all it's pretty convenient to use the controller to do complex actions (especially on the Titan). Maybe in future players with the controller will be less competitive and I will switch to m+kb, but right now, playing against a much higher level players, I really shone with the controller!

After playing a bunch of games on my 680 and xbone I can say that I can't notice graphical differences. I can notice the frame rate and the xbone better step up. I'm not a huge graphics guy so I'm sure there's a difference, but my old man eyes didn't notice when I played both on my tv.

Just hit the level cap. I have thoroughly enjoyed the game so far, so I'll be definitely hopping in at release, and that's coming from someone who doesn't play multi-player shooters.

I really can't wait to be able to select the Strider as a Titan, really liked playing it with the burn cards.

Overall Beta has been kinda bittersweet for me. Good in the sense that the gameplay is about everything that I'd hoped for. Game is fun as hell and I could see myself easily pouring hundreds of hours into it. The negative being that the pings I'm getting are as high as I'd feared. I'd been hopeful of being able to getting sub 100 ping when connecting to the East Asia server, but my average ping is about 150 and sometimes goes above 200. Not really sure how to proceed.

Thanks, I'll stick with it and try to alter my playstyle. I'm trying to unlock Enhanced Targeting for the Smart Pistol, hopefully I will improve a bit once I have that upgrade.

Got disconnected twice, will play later. I swear, whenever I pick the shotgun as my main, I'm doomed to worst rank on my team. I stink in general, but it's like, preordained with the boom stick.

Right there with you. I would say I end up dead in 8 out of every 10 encounters I have with a pilot. It's still an enjoyable game despite my lack of skills which is more than I can say for Call of Duty or Battlefield so I'm willing to stick around and try to improve.

while it's easy enough to get kills by just staying mobile while everyone else iron sights up like a deer in the headlights, i've found the easiest and most abusive strategy is to just walk around with a bunch of grunts and act like a dumbshit grunt until a pilot turns up. there's only a 1/4 chance they'll target you and by then it's usually too late.

this game is a guilty pleasure like five dollar prostitute or a dirty chinese buffet. it's stuffed to the gills with "didn't you do well!!" mechanics (the grunts are walking instances of positive reinforcement) and has worse gunplay than wolfenstein 3D, but its hard not to enjoy just because of the mobility.

Shadowplay doesn't work well with this game for some reason.
No, recording Titanfall with shadowplay kills my frame rate. I just recorded a match and uploaded it to my channel and I realised, at one point, a Titan battle made my frame rate drop to 25!

I don't play multiplayer games much anymore. I put a couple of hours into COD4, maybe 12 into Black Ops, and a few in a couple of Halos in between. I'm bad at my interactions with pilots, both on foot and in a Titan.

However, unlike you I like the Titan, maybe because it's something new for the COD players to learn as well. I'd say I win 4/5 of my Titan on Titan encounters.

Yeah that's what I meant. With Shadowplay in the background it freezes the game for me.

But I did get some footage.

I love this game. The first time I ejected after being rodeo'd and killed that sumbitch in freefall was so exciting. I think I like riding around on other people's titans more than piloting my own.

I am assuming this game is DX11. I am having a really hard time getting any SLI bits working, the all induce seizure inducing flashing among other things.

I'm having a lot of fun with it, the epilogues are tense as fuck when you and a buddy are running for the drop ship! However, nothing in the world would convince me to get an EA title at launch ever again, I'll see what it's like in a couple of months.

the rodeo is getting tougher. titans are figuring out its easy to stop spinning around and moving and give your teammates an easy kill :(

How do you board an enemy titan then destroy it?

jump on it and shoot. hope they dont have teammates around or electric smoke

Yup, firing Archer rockets from the head of a teammate's Titan to help them bring down their target is pretty satisfying.

Playing the PC beta so far...really like it and I hate FPS.

Love the addition of the CPU-controlled teammates. Makes the game really interesting and robust.

Getting to the dropship upon defeat is such an awesome idea too...and the XP title being "Get To The Chopper" is awesome.

Big fan...definitely will be getting this for PC.

I think a fun game mode would be one centered on something like the epilogue. I don't know how it would work, but I think it would be awesome.

I was having the same issue. I think it was because of too much vram usage. Insane textures used too much vram. After I turned the texture quality down to high it worked perfectly.

I was gonna just pass this game off as CoD with Mechs especially when I found out about the smart pistol.

However after watching some gameplay footage it looks great, my main problem with CoD isn't that it's for noobs / casuals only that it's such a boringly slow paced game compared to classic death match styled PC FPS.

This is the main reason I'm enjoying this. Brink had parkour for a MP game, but because of the jumping around, I feel much more capable since I'm not so good at shooting being a noob at MP games.

I just wish there were Tenchu style death from aboves when you get the drop on someone.

Not being able to drop a Titan onto an enemy is such a missed opportunity.

Actually I've gone to the silencer version instead, the smaller tracking area means you're losing locks much easier if moving around.

CoD4 and MW2 were not boring and slow-paced.

But Ghosts? It's like watching paint dry. If there's something about watching paint that could somehow be frustrating in addition to being boring.

It took me a few matches to get the hang of things. I'm not too bored while I'm a titan but I find it much better to walk with my titan than control it myself. Titans tend to attract other players. I end up ambushing them with a melee attack.

They need to give a better visual cue for the range of the nuclear explosion. I have no idea how far that thing explodes and I've died more times than I'd like thinking I was well out of the blast radius.

One thing I wish they do is change the name indicator color on opponents so that AI and actual players have different colors. It's difficult for me to distinguish between the two at times.

A single backwards boost from being face to face will take you clear.
