The Order: 1886 New Trailer On 18th February - 1400 GMT/1500 CET

From all the "behind the scenes" gossip @ Sony, this game seems to be placed right under Naughty Dog's shadow.

"It's like Uncharted 2!" etc. This end-of-embargo needs to define The Order on its own strengths and not pair it up against Naughty Dog or else this game will get the incorrect kind of hype.

I think it's more like they're comparing it to the pacing and cinematic aspirations of Uncharted 2. A lot of crazy awesome shit happens in that game, during which it rarely ever takes control away from the player. RAD are looking to achieve similar things with The Order.

Are they gonna produce decent gamelore like they did for Killzone, I enjoyed it as much as the game. The knights are centuries old (is that right?)

The premise is already awesome - the Victorian era is seldom explored in games, as is the dark Gothic aesthetic, not to mention steampunk, Arthurian legends and mythical beasts like werewolves et al. It's a combination of awesome things which don't really feature in games all that often. Kind of like Nightmare Creatures but with a huge budget and a solid developer.

Evidently there are two videos tomorrow, one trailer and one of gameplay.

Awesome. Give it to me now.

It's just that I don't understand why people are hyped for something we know nothing about.

A story trailer and a few screenshots of empty corridors are what get people excited for games these days? Plus the press hypes games whether they deserve the hype or not.

Looked up what they did and all I saw were a few PSP games. I think I heard some of its members worked on Syphon Filter but I never played those games.

I'm just surprised by how big the hype for this game is, that's all. I guess it helps that it's one of the first games built from the grounds-up for next-gen.

Great developer, great concept, popular genre, impressive tech, underused setting, etc. What's not to like?

The event system sounds similar to Sleeping Dogs with the use of local environment stuff, but hopefully not as obvious as 'Here's a buzz-saw, feed your opponent's head in' - hoping you can use whatever's lying around (bottle, wrapped up newspaper).

Trying to stay calm about this game, but moreso than I:SS I think this will be the PS4's first proper 'Here's what we can do with this new box of yours'...like this was back in the day

Ha, Ok. Noted :)

No health regeneration in this game.

Thank god for this. One of, if not the, most overused gameplay designs in current gaming. Love playing hyper-realism games that allow you to sit still for a few seconds and suddenly your 20 gunshot wounds are healed.

I dunno man. Killzone was just jaw dropping and Infamous looks insane as well. Res0gun had some wicked tech going on also with those 200K voxels exploding and bouncing all around during a level without a hint of slowdown in site. This box has shown us some stuff already, and will again in about a month.

Got my new TV ready just in time for the trailer.

But what if the console can't scale the output correctly end you'll end up with a res of 1920x1080 with black borders on each side?

Very hyped, but trying to keep my expectations in check. It's not the second coming, and the more hyped it is, the easier it is to be disappointed.

Also, I guarantee that, no matter how incredible the graphics are, there will be at least one person who says something like "they cut twenty percent of the screen space off FOR THIS?!" The rule is that, if the game is exclusive to a platform, people will somehow be disappointed by the graphics. I'm sure it will be the same here.

Nice, I like that idea instead of QTE in the traditional sense. Thanks for pointing that out.
Like I said, sounds cool but to me its all about how its presented. Right now GOWA has the crown for most seemless, "What, I'm still actively in control?!?" QTE so far.

in blim we trust.

I really hope Blim gets his/her hands on the gameplay footage!

GOWA's punchout-style QTE replacements were fun for about 5 seconds and once the novelty wore off they were just a flow-stopping drag. The animations weren't even polished enough to make sitting through them worth it.

Because The Order is a shooter and not a melee game, hopefully a similar implementation won't be as much of an interruption, but I'm still skeptical of showy events that slow the action. They have high potential to become tedious.

So excited. This game is at the top of my list of games this year. I can't wait to know more about it

Lol, I don't get it. What did he do wrong? :O

Now I'm scared to post. :(

He should've said more. I strongly disagree because . . .

Gaf doesn't like short answers, like that one thread where everybody got banned for just saying "No"

Hyped. Hoping we get to see some slow paced, exploration based footage as well as some action, just like in that bustling London street concept art.

Was that that Wind Waker thread? God damn that place was a graveyard.

As opposed to the trigger QTE cutscene, fail, and start the same animations over again?

They were seemless and simple, I dont see how any thing is wrong about that and much prefer that to what the series had brought to the table before.

Besides, if you are striving to reach the pinnacle of cinematic presentation than why include prompts? Or eve a HUD? It seems to defeat the whole purpose.

For example, although I certainly prefer UC3 to UC2 overall, I liked that UC2 slowed down movements for counters without using a prompt instead. It's all about the small things...

Hyping the shit out of visuals, only to be let down because my expectations are set to believe in what I believe to be great graphics only to find out, those who were hyping visuals have a lower standard than me.

Agreed. Pop-up icons definitely break you out of the presentation imo.

I don't have that problem because I almost never fail them. There's basically one QTE in the entire series which is actually difficult, and that's the ending cinematic against Zeus in GOW2. The rest are easy boss-killing finishers or optional enemy finishers.

The problem with the promptless ones is that even when you succeed it's still a pace-killing drag after you've seen it a couple of times. It's not challenging in the least, so once you've seen it and enjoyed it visually a couple of times, that's basically the end of its value.

Also, the lack of prompts DOESN'T make it more cinematic except in the most superficial way (i.e. lack of HUD elements) because in practice it actually locks the camera in place and limits your character's movements to a rigid set of simple animations. The button prompt QTEs with the camera flying all over the place are far more cinematic.

And no, I don't really have a problem with having to try them again because at least then I'm in full control of my character and engaged in the core combat mechanics.

I often dont fail them either, but it certainly doesn't change the fact most QTEs are cutscenes running on a loop.

Neither are challenging but that shouldn't be a factor. Promptless(particularly GOWA) at least allocates you more than one button input. Yes, it fixes the camera in place but it's still viewed as the developer desires, the presentation and whether or not its "cinematic" is up to the camera programmer. Also, are you implying that a static shot cant be cinematic?

Looking at a cutscene that offers two or three button prompts, thus triggering more of the cutscene doesn't equate control, it doesn't mean that "You're making this happen OMG." If anything that's the superficial way.

Give me simple gameplay with cinematic presentation and I'm delighted, because at the end of the day its more interactive than just a simple button press that really has no other bearing on the events other than just to unlock what was already cued up.

I'll always take "cinematic" over just cinema.

Ouch. GAF be harsh lol.

For how long is this ban?
Eh, it's kind of sad when you see a junior perma'd for making a comment like that, but I can understand why it happens. One/two word posts like 'No.' or 'lol no' in response to the OP in a thread about an opinion or one asking for an opinion are generally stupid, basic responses that contribute absolutely nothing to the discussion at hand. If they were allowed threads would go absolutely nowhere and hardly any meaningful discussion would be made, hence why people get banned for doing it. There have been some crazy graveyard threads recently where practically entire pages of posters have been banned over that sort of stuff.

And I think shinobi will be back in a few days. There's definitely been notably less threads posted per day without him here ;)

I'm not sure how that's so different than these recent resolution or framerate threads where you'll see many posts just saying "megaton" or "here we go".

Fair enough lol.

OT, CVG is really hyping this one, huh? Tomorrow had better deliver or Sony's gonna have a massive GAF riot on their hands. :P

It's just 24-hour clock. Surely it's commonly used worldwide?!

It is used in the United States as long as you wear Kevlar to work and shoot an M4 at the competition.

OT: I'm doing my best not to go school girl on this but it's really hard. If this game is done right it can set the bar for future action 3rd party shooters. Plus, I'm an absolute nut for 18th century Europe and of course, monsters.

I guess it's down to the context of the thread. It's more understandable seeing people getting banned for a snarky one word response in a thread where the OP is giving an opinion (even if it is unfavourable) than it is in the example you're giving.

Thank god I have no classes tomorrow. I'm gonna be reading all the impressions and watching all the footage (at least 5x) available tomorrow.

My report is all set to go for tomorrow morning. 1,300+ words, gameplay footage, new trailer, and I think 20 screenshots. I transcribed a lot of what Ru from Ready at Dawn said during our session.

#Soon

By the way, I encoded the video at the highest setting Compressor would allow. Obviously, Youtube has screwed things up in the past, but it actually looks great on YT right now (it's preloaded but set to Private, sorry)

Hhhhhhnnnngggggggg

Need...now...

Lovely jubbly. But if "two videos" and "some gameplay bits" are different things, then what's being shown in the former, cut-scenes I presume?

I meant two videos total (sorry, I was pretty beat-up when I tweeted that)

1. Gameplay video from B-Roll
2. New trailer
