Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z is releasing soon, who else is getting it?

SargerusBR

I love Pokken!
I'm a sucker for ninjas so will grab this eventually, in a Steam sale. They seriously choose the worst date to release this game.

After NG and NGB, I thought NG2 was... Hmmm... how can I put this delicately...

Fucking gash? NG3 was even worse.

Pretty harsh, Black is a perfect 10 and my favorite game of all time, but 2 is still a solid 9 with razors edge being more like a.. 7 or so, I beat the first 2 games on Master so I feel I have a pretty solid feel for both, 3 isn't worth the investment regardless of the version to do so.

This looks like it could be fun but, in a totally unrelated to NG kind of way.

What exactly is so bad about NG2? It had less polish in all facets compared to black and the level design was worse, but the actual combat was faster, more varied and in general superior which has to count for something. Are you actually any good at these games?

I don't like to play that card but, saying NG2 is a bad game to me implies you're bad at it, or don't really play the series on any technical level, so i'm curious why a few pretend there is this huge gap between the two. At release the general tone was much closer to '2 isn't as good as Black but it's still awesome', so it's confusing to suddenly see this sentiment.

Ninja gaiden has been going downhill steadily since black, but it only really took a scary turn starting with 3 which is indeed an abortion of a game.

This will bomb really hard so I'm pretty confident it will receive huge discounts in future Steam Sales. Will pick it up when it's under $5

Its coming to PC? Did I know this?

Huh, well I was planning on getting it anyway but this is great news. Probably not a day one purchase for me but I will most likely pick it up soon after release. Looks like goofy fun to me and I like the visuals/artstyle. Hopefully the combat is up to scratch.

Nothing wrong with what he said.

Ninja gaiden 2 is still in the top 5 action games of the previous generation, even if you still include black on a technicality (sigma)

This. NG2 is fucking awesome, even with its problems. It's a rough diamond, but still a diamond. Yaiba? I'll get it at the first Steam sale, it looks like a sub-10€ game. I doubt it'll be better than RE, but I bought even that turd called Ninja Blade so Yaiba is fine too.

Ninja Gaiden 2 being worse than Ninja Gaiden 1 and black is like saying a room made of gold is not as good as having a room made of diamonds.

It's still better than 97% of the action games from last gen and only fails by the incredibly high standards of the rest of the series(and we all know why that is). If anything the real frustration of the game is that the combat engine and camera is so good the rest of the game could have been spectacular.

Fucking Hayashi, managed to stand on the shoulders of giants and still come up short.

Anyway OT, I will wait till reviews and people play it. I did that for NG3 and I still haven't bought it. I was told that Ninja Blade was about 50x better than 3 so I class it as the Spiderman 3 of the franchise, so bad it would go back in time and make the others shit.

I don't see what Ninja Blade has to do with this TBH >_>;

...and would like to just remind people that Keiji Inafune is working on this game.
Also Grant Kirkhope music.
...and the main character is basically Hobo Raiden.

2 is an incomplete broken mess. If the first is a 9, the sequel is a 6 or a 7 (at a push). What worked was great, but the game had a lot of problems that bring the score down. It's most definitely not a 9 or anything close to it.

I've been scratching my heads for a while as to why people are so negative about this game. Okay, so it's not the Ninja Gaiden everyone wants, but it doesn't look that bad.

It's not broken or a mess, it is an amazing game that feels like it was released in beta to some extent. If you appreciate the actual combat mechanics of the NG series above all else, then most will agree 2 is superior or at least equal to black. The reason Black wins otherwise is the level/world design, adventure/puzzle mix and overall polish in comparison, but i'd happily take NG2 combat over the original game, but both are amazing to play.

It all depends on what you value, since I play these games for their combat first and foremost, the gap isn't that huge to me, and I feel outside of the level design and music, 2 would have surpassed NG1 in all ways had it had more time in the oven, but I can live with some issues for what is still one of the best 3d action games of all time.

Funny thing is, I'm not even that fussy about games. I can't pinpoint this exactly, but to me NG2 felt all shades of wrong to control compared to NG/NGB. I gave it a lot of time too, but I thought it felt rushed and was a massive step down in every conceivable way (level design, controls etc).

I was really disappointed with it.

Why is it called Yaiba? And then Ninja Gaiden Z?

Pocket Rocket? In a Ninja Gaiden game?

Read somewhere it wasn't going to be an NG game but got that as the title.
Just go in expecting a wacky Japanese action game starring Hobo Raiden.

Nah, imo, it was arguably the best playing action game of all time despite it imperfections or issues. Yeah, Black was more polished and featured more level diversity such as puzzles and more adventure elements, but NG2's gameplay and combat were vastly superior imo. The combat was comparable to some of the deepest fighting games out there. If NG2 was mediocre or average, no wonder Hayahsi changed up Ninja Gaiden so much with NG3.

Well, we will see where Ninja Gaiden stands with Yaiba. I'm calling in between NG3 and NG3:RE. Not as good as Razor's Edge, but better than NG3.

Haven't really paid attention to this before now, why is everyone so adamantly against it? Is this like DmC where it was different, and therefore the greatest travesty to befall mankind? Because DmC turned out to be pretty fun, and this look alright from here.

No, it's because the game plays like loose, ropey shit.

After the awful NG3, I'm totally ready for a series reboot. But this one looks even worse.

I pre-ordered it. *shrugs* (Shrugging because I had $100+ in Amazon Credit, so I used it.)

Listen, I love quirky games like this. It reminds me of Killer Is Dead a little bit, and I had a BLAST playing that.

It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I'll drink to parity amongst gamers.

NB is a crappy action game about a ninja. Yaiba looks like a crappy action game about a ninja, hence the connection. Let's hope it's better, it's not hard to be better than NB anyway.

Lyte Edge

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I missed the memo. How did GAF decide this was horrible again?

Been wondering that myself. But the lack of a demo, combined with all the negativity, has made me wait to see how the game turns out.

What about is crappy though? It's just looks like a common hack and slash game, except you can rip out giant mutated zombie baby's Shoulder Blades and use them as weapons.
Also there's a rocket launcher.

Game looks awesome. I appreciate the new artstyle and approach. If it looked like all the other Ninja Gaidens you would all be complaining about lack of creativity.

No, because Spark Unlimited.

Nahhhhhh. Nothing can be worse than Ninja Gaiden 3.

I'm also tired of the 'bad developer = bad game' sthick that people tout around here and outside of here. If people like fucking Double Helix can prove themselves, why can't Spark? I know motherfuckers in GAF that enjoyed the hell out of LP3 and wouldn't even call it a 'bad' game.

I'm gonna put faith in Spark for this one moment for making a /good/ enough action game. I'm not expecting NG:B godlike perfection.

It'll be a great ass day when the little guy can prove themselves despite the criticism they face

actually it's bad developer = skepticism

and when it comes to bad developers handling franchises like DMC, Ninja Gaiden, Strider, etc., the skepticism is perfectly justified

Have you seen the gameplay vids? I think I would rather play Ninja Gaiden 3. If Spark Unlimited are going to prove themselves, I don't think this will be the one to do it.
