GiantBomb: Titanfall Quick Look is Live

How come all the impressions or the main thread isn't just spammed with these type of problems? Are gamers really that eager to overlook problems?

I can't help but think deep down inside, Vince Campanella is angry that his new "baby" Titanfall isn't on the PS4. I guarantee you it would be running MUCH better than it is on the XB1.

It might not be full 1080p on a PS4, but it sure as hell wouldn't be dropping to a single-digit slideshow when just walking around a corner inside a building...

He'll never admit it publicly, but I just have this feeling from the tone of his Tweets that he's not happy about the XB1's hardware issues. Or EA's backroom deals with Microsoft.

You're banned, but I'll respond. I think it's actually a mix of two things...and neither would help on the PS4.

1. Needs more polish/patching
2. CPU performance limit

I'm sure they'll be patching like crazy.

It's not AS bad. But there are problems with it too. It should definitely run better. The games not that much of a looker in the first place...
I'm playing it at 1080p 60 fps with adaptive vsync and max AF 4xAA and it rarely tears. When it does, though, it does it in the strangest places like inside a building or out in the open, in both situations away from battle. So it could probably use some optimizations.

Yeah, recorded that earlier on my XBO:

Giant Bomb wasn't exaggerating with the single digit fps. The game definitely needs some polish. (It's still awesome, tons of fun, everybody should buy it, yadada)

Please tell me thats the GIF slowing down and not the actual game.

That's the exact thing to happened to me in the beta. It didn't seem like a normal fps drop, but some kind of bug.

Are there still server issues? I thought they were worked out within the first hour or so?

They had 3 so far (that I've seen), one which caused the game to lockup. Not saying it's the worst thing ever, it's just how these things always go.

They might not be experiencing them? I only played 3 maps last night (no campaign) and didn't have fps issues and tearing. The servers were rock solid too. I'm curious to see tonight if the issues are with the campaign maps.

I actually thought my gif was still loading... than it looped. Holy shit.

Now the game doesnt look very good, is that the stream quality (HD)? or is that pretty much representative of the final product?

lol someone gif that floating mech.

Oh, Giant Bomb is having issues. I haven't experienced that yet. Most people I talked to haven't had server issues since the first hour or so last night.

The servers are flawless. As I said, the tearing and fps issues are the same as in the beta, so there is nothing dramatically new about that. And that slowdown was definitely a bug.

I think that it's just not characteristic of gameplay. I saw it happen randomly once during maybe two-and-a-half hours worth of livestreams last night, I think it's a bug. Continuing watching the quicklook here, it's not super common.

It really does look like a very fun, last gen game.

Not trying to take a potshot but it is what it is. I wouldn't let that stop anyone. Just.. I would wish for a bit more. But I am not a multiplayer guy and this isn't really for me anyways. I just like the robuts.

Honestly, they are. One of my friends is clearly overlooking some of the stuff thats wrong with the game. I was arguing with him about content wise, the game is disappointing...especially for 60 bucks.

The campaign is laughably bad. It's identical to the regular multiplayer stuff. Identical. Respawn pretty much just wanted to be able to say that had a campaign mode. It makes sense why they never showed it off before.

Also, the game is pretty badly optimized. A lot of people with good set ups are having major frame rate drops and some other graphical issues. It's all just getting drowned out by everyone else jacking off to the game though.

The games really fun. I've sunk in a good amount of time in it already. But the game is not without its faults.

I love Giant Bomb's subtitle, by the way.

"Shaka, when the Titans fell."

Who get's the reference?

Flawless is being very generous. I was booted from the PC servers before I could finish the training mode this morning.

This is good to hear, then. I had little issue with the tearing in the beta (and I hate tearing with a passion generally). I wonder if some issues have anything to do with the Twitch update. My console was a mess until I uninstalled and reinstalled Twitch after deleting the save data. My games were crashing to desktop and some didn't even show up until I reinstalled and hard booted my console.

I kind of wish the PC version had more bonkers visual options.

During my relatively short playtime, I had a <30ms ping and no problems. Definitely better than what I experienced with EA servers in, say, PvZ:GW

It's not game-breaking, but it is definitely disappointing. The "regular" framerate dips are my main complaint, though. Some maps do indeed seem to cause more problems than others.

PC version coming up.

Some thoughts on the X1 version. Tearing is shocking, there also seems to be quite unoptimised with regards to menus, glitches like the moonwalking titan, the tearing, and the frame-rate, which towards the end of the X1 stream seemed to take a nosedive after he exited the titan to activate the turret,

oh god, I thought that was the gif loading up O_o

If it is anything like the Beta (I won't have my copy of the final version until this evening so I cannot comment on that) the major frame rate issues are few and infrequent. In fact, this is summarized by many reviewers. In my experience with the Beta, I didn't notice any tearing or frame rate issues. Granted, I'm sure there was some, but that should give you an indication on how much it affected my game play.

Holy crap!

What the hell could be causing that? I noticed the frame-rate took a dive during the last titan standing mode in the QL but there's literally nothing going on in the gif. Could it be a bug or some loading issue causing it become a slide-show?

And this is why Giantbomb has the respect of many, they do notice some of the things lots of other places just flat out ignore. Giantbomb isn't perfect but they do give a different viewpoint of the same games.

So they're going to increase the resolution any day now huh?
