Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Fuck Simon Belmont and Lords of Shadows, Shanoa from Order of Ecclesia is a badass and you know it.

Sakurai where you at?

The other two are just so much more interesting, K. Rool is a badly designed Bowser in a crown.

I mean look at that shit, it's everything bad about 90's character design in a nutshell.
To be fair, that's much better than the one that appears in the Mario baseball game. I have no idea why they replaced the armor plating (which actually makes sense for a reptile) with a pot belly.

Also, Othet M Ridley wouldn't be bad if it weren't for the duck bill.

It always had been a pot belly, even here.

Okay let's spin the Wheel of Morality to see what tangent this topic needs to take *Spins*

Okay, we landed on "Ridley in Smash" ...*breaks wheel*
Reason #334568 that Ridley really should go ahead and be confirmed for Smash 4.

do you really need to spoiler fanboy wet dreams that have zero chance of coming to pass
Wow, such ire. I always thought it was a pretty reasonable theory myself.

The villager is much less of an avatar than the Mii is, since you can't really customise facial features or body shape (or am I wrong? Haven't played much AC).
Villager is very much a player avatar, and you can customize the face, hair, and clothes. And the name and such, of course. It's not quite up to the Mii standards, but it's close. Heck, you can even put on a Mii mask on your Animal Crossing villager!

wheel of morality turn turn turn. Tell us the lesson that we should learn!

Sorry. Had to get that out of my system.

No body shape, but the questions you're asked at the beginning of the game determines your facial features, at least in the 3DS Version, forgot if it was in older games.

But considering you can name your character after you, create your own clothing to wear, style your hair to match your own, I'd say it's an avatar.

The Mii debate reminds me of when people wanted a Monster Hunter in Marvel vs Capcom 3.

That would have been so sweet. :(

Only somebody as big as Ridley can have that many reasons.
Yeah it would have been. It's nice that the character selection process for Smash Bros. is more than just "which characters can we use to advertise our other games the most?" I mean, that obviously exists, but not to the detriment of the roster as a whole. *glares at MvC3 and PSASBR*

There is a problem with having Mii as a playable character: As their "harmless, casual mascot" Nintendo is pretty careful in what kind of games they make the Mii's available for (as seen how difficult it was for third parties to license that character for their Wii games).

Despite its cartoonish nature, Smash Bros has some pretty violent moves. Imagine little Timmy's mom stopping by her son's room when he is playing Smash Bros and seeing her Mii being kneed in the head by Captain Falcon. Might be pretty shocking.

Sure the Miis have been boxing etc. in Wii Sports, but those are sports, and thus always a more acceptable form of violence for most people.

I think they're a bit more liberal with where Miis can go now.

I was thinking today about Snakes move set and putting it on another character. Since I still have the feeling that's what we're in store for. The obvious answer would be advanced wars, since just about anyone there especially the days of ruin characters could take it with ease. But if they tweaked the look of it I could see the move set going to a metroid character. Especially to someone on the team from Other M such as "remember me" guy.

I think snake's chances have only gone up honestly.

If we do get another third party Snake is the most likely to be replaced, Namco might leave one of their characters in the roster as their signature for helping developing the game. I really can't see 4 third party characters happening.

That you don't even remember his name says a lot about Other M.

I take more issue with the whole "X doesn't belong in Smash because violence" thing. It had me ranting and raving when Sakurai himself said it about Villager after Brawl. This is a cartoony mascot fighter, and I don't think the nature of such games is grounds for exclusion of any character whatsoever.

But Villager is pretty customizable, as explained above. The character can be changed in several ways to the player's liking.

Is that based on anything, though...?

He would still be the only Konami character if he were to remain. Hard for me to understand why anyone thinks Snake would be removed for any reason other than time constraints.

Some have said Konami may pull support. But... why??? It doesn't make any sense, seeing as Kojima wanted him in to begin with. What has suddenly changed?

I mostly base it on Sakurai's statement that there won't be many third party characters, Snake might still come back if Kojima and Sakurai still has the deal but then i feel we won't get a new third party besides Megaman. I'd love to have 4 third party characters but it seems many, since it is the same number of Zelda and Pokémon characters currently in Smash. It all depends on how big the roster will turn out to be though.

I don't understand why Kojima would suddenly not allow Snake to return. He's still friends with Sakurai, and it's easy publicity for Konami. The "irrelevant to Nintendo" argument never held water either since that irrelevance is why Snake was included to begin with -- Kojima thought putting Snake in Brawl would be a good way of introducing the character to the Nintendo audience. Even though he's hardly a "Nintendo all-star," Snake's status as a gaming icon justifies his inclusion. Nothing about that has changed since Brawl.

I'm not really for K. Rool unless he replaces Diddy, but as far as "modernizing" him goes, it could just be a simple matter of creating a composite design using the potbelly armor, pirate coat, etc. and throw in some extra bling to capitalize (heh) on the fact that he's a pirate.

"Big Poppa-proportioned pimp brawler crocodile" is a pretty hard design to mess up.

Speaking of composite, I think they should just use Zero Suit Samus and Sheik as the bases for a completely new Impa character and buff Samus and Zelda as individual characters.
