Partying at 2am in a dorm is selfish and inconsiderate regardless of the weekend or holiday. OP should have asked them to be quiet and then tell the RA if they didn't quiet down. If this happened in my apartment complex they tenants would have been fried by the owners for partying at 2am.

The big question is why weren't you at the party? I can smell the salty cunt on OP.

You are quickly becoming one of the most immature and annoying posters on this forum. That's quite the feat, congrats.

Did you see the part where it's illegal to be underage with booze in the dorm? Did you see the part where the cops came? Do you think op getting busted for booze on campus is the better outcome?

"Busted" lol. For minor violations like that, college campuses tend to just deal with it internally anyway. A slap on the wrists, a waste of time in a meeting with someone from the disciplinary committee, and that's about it.

I very much doubt, from the ways in which most universities handle small drug and alcohol issues, that the OP actually caused any long-lasting problems for these kids. If he's worried about that, he probably shouldn't be.

Jesus your attitude stinks. some people actually go to uni to learn you know.

I agree that that poster's attitude is atrocious, but people usually have a balance of fun and studies. Freshman year my professor told us not to stress over a 4.0 GPA. "Have fun and experience new things. Don't spend all your time inside going after that 4.0." I remember him telling us. Have to say I agree with him. 3.0 is just as good.

Well considering that college is a time for a lot of people to experiment with living on their own for the first time and interacting without more experienced supervision, it makes perfect sense. Sorry that I ruined your ideal vision of how rules are rules and everyone must abide and be punished in the exact same way.

I would have gone to my RA as well. I have finals starting Monday, probably like a lot of other guys here. I need sleep. 2AM? When I have classes starting at 8? Not cool. Not cool at all.

Ok good. Apology accepted. Let's drink over it.

Btw I have to get up at 7.

Uh, no. You'd be in the minority actually. Most will have finals end of April/early May.

Well, those aren't two incongruous positions -- it's quite possible to go to university to learn and get a degree and also socialize and have a healthy social life. I would probably say that's the best way to "do" your undergraduate experience.

I'm piecing together the mystery (Monk). He was not at the party because he's a cunt. Because he is a cunt is the reason why he didn't want to approach the party goers in the first place. The problem lies with the OP.

When I got woken up at 1 am I put in my ear plugs If I got woken up again I went to the other dorm and used diplomacy.

"Hey man can you do me a HUGE favour and turn the music down a bit, I would really appreciate."

The response was always. "Yeah man no problem."

I was so diplomatic that I ended up staying at the party for an hour getting some drinks in then going back to my dorm and sleeping like a baby.

My analysis tells me that OP doesn't know how to talk to people. I wish I had the resources to investigate this fully.

OP you should look into dorms that enforce 24/7 quiet hours on campus for next semester. I don't know if that's a common thing, but there are dorms like that at my college.

He's up, and.. reading manga, judging by his post history...
Awesome. Clearly hes putting that sleep he so desperately needed to good use. Surely he'll have an excellent engineering job and those shiftless losers partying on Saturdays will be left with no future because they socialized during their free time instead of reading scanlations.

Oh I agree, you can have fun and unwind at uni as well, I'm not against that at-all, did the same thing in my 1st year :p I just hate the perception that being at uni means you HAVE to be a party animal and have these outrageous parties. we also have posters pointing out "they are engineering students, what nerds, probably weren't having fun anyway" on this forum of all places. The attitude just rubs me up the wrong way as it shows a lack of being able to see things from other peoples point of view.

Those Sunday morning classes must be tough.

No but that Monday morning deadline/exam might be.

They end up not actually working as intended, just fyi. If you go into those actually expecting a 24/7 quiet hour environment then you are in for a rude awakening.

-- Within a dorm there are often "quiet halls/study halls" that are far more restrictive when it comes to noise.

That's also a good option for the OP -- there probably are substance free/quiet housing if you want surround yourself with like-minded people. That might be the best way to go.

Ours was a substance free AND 24/7 quiet housing. It attracted a certain type of person that followed those rules fairly well (from what I've heard), though your mileage will obviously vary.

I feel the exact same way. Yeah, OP probably should have just asked them to quiet down, but I just don't see how people can legitimately defend people throwing a get-together at 2am either. Calling OP a cunt because he would prefer to sleep than drink really shows how immature, selfish, and childish some members on here are.

Really, it seems like just about everyone was in the wrong here. OP for not just asking them to quiet down, the RA for calling the cops, and the guys partying for being loud at 2am when other people might need to get up for work or something early the next day.

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

I have get-togethers that last later than 2am.

Who the hell throws a rager on campus? Buncha bush league scrubs.
No where does this sound like a rager.

Yeah, so do I, but I try to be considerate of anyone who might be living around me and try to keep the volume down. If someone knows the people they hang out with get loud when they drink, they probably shouldn't choose to drink in a shared living environment at 2am.

On our campus it tended to attract the crowd that would fit in there but then because it was obviously last choice for a lot of people, those that signed up for housing way late (who, generally, had the exact opposite disposition of someone who would want to live there) would end up stuck there because housing was always 100% filled on my campus every year.

Of course, your post didn't say anything about noise so I thought you were just flabbergasted at 2am parties.

See this is classic. Nerds lambasting people for partying during weekends, claiming that the people who arent are studying instead but theyre just wasting time doing some other shit.

Not really sure what you're talking about; OP was called a salty cunt so that's what I was referring to.

Also, can't see your picture

1. Let's remember that this is a holiday weekend.
2. If OP or anyone else had work on a Sunday while being a full-time student (unlikely) then going to them and stating so would have almost definitely lowered the volume for the party.
3. You're making it seem like the party started at 2. It probably started much earlier and they just didn't know how loud they were being.

Not everyone is a mind-reader like I said previously. You're all complaining that 2 Am is late, but honestly at my college the quad is usually still buzzing with activity and music. That's just the way it is. It's deathly quiet on the weeknights. Students want to blow off steam and celebrate St. Patrick's day together. I get that there's a possibility of people needing to go to work, but that more than likely wasn't the case here.

OP's neighbors weren't being dick, they were just having a good time and weren't aware of how loud they were being. Had OP asked them to keep it down they almost certainly would have done so. Hell, OP could've potentially been invited inside and made some memories and new friends too if he wanted to.

I just think its funny because lots of posters were framing the partiers as a bunch of unproductive assholes and making hypothetical statements about OP having important meetings/interviews/homework to do but he's just wasting time himself by reading manga scans..

I'd have waited till 230 or closer to 3 to ask them to turn that shit down. No need to bring RAs into it all.

Damn, some people's opinions on here....guys, Not everyone posts on NeoGAF on weekends some people are actually social in real life.

Some do, yeah. Shocking! Next I suppose you'll tell me you partied through college and still got a 4.0 GPA.

OP didn't do anything wrong, he/she called the RA, not the police, the RAs probably decided to call them.

Yeah, I can't get behind complaining about noise to do nothing with your Sunday morning, but I also don't think putting someone else's "party" ahead of yourself is necessary just because it's college.

Probably already been covered before, but the guys are probably alright.

I was one of those assholes across the hall years ago and got caught underage drinking while bringing dumb attention to myself. The campus police came, gave me a $60 ticket, made me go to this boring class thing, put me on probation for a year, and that was it. Luckily the ordeal made me learn to be careful for that year, and the ticket and class were basically nothing as it all went off the record as soon as I got off probation, so it wasn't bad at all.

I've been told that if the actual town or county police (there's a difference) came, I would've had my license taken, given a $400 plus ticket, and maybe arrested. So it really depends on who got them, but if it was in the dorms I'd say it was most likely whatever campus police you have there.

As for how I see it, you definitely should've went yourself to tell them to shut up. Then if it kept going call the RAs if you must. But really, it's a weekend, st pattie's day weekend, and likely spring break for you. I won't say they weren't dumb or didn't have it coming, but living on a US college campus (I'm assuming US), stuff like this should absolutely be expected given the situation. Join em or fight em, guess you chose the latter.
