FF6 is probably one of the most melodramatic FF's(Im not saying this in a derrogatory way, I love "melodrama") but there we go again with the selective criticism.(this is not directed towards you, it's directed towards "TRUE" HERPDERP Final Fantasy fans)
Squall's character was intentionally written that way, it's targetted towards people IRL that might be suffering the same struggles(Btw the other characters had no equivalent of "sis", Squall and her had a particularly close connection and you just have to take into account that different people have different personalities by default, he was always an introvert kid, the others werent.).
But oh well, the internet will be the internet.(Im not attacking you, im speaking in general)

I probably cannot win this argument, but I will reiterate that I am currently playing the game, and one of the reasons why I can understand the lack of sympathy for his plight, and why I find this game's iteration of him unappealing is that he is very dramatic, in his speech and gestures. Its offputting, even on disc 3 I don't find him 'cool'. Its almost as if he is whining. Its annoying. Much prefer him in KH. Thats me.

People seem to forget that Likeability and relatability speaks nothing for a character's worth from a narrative standpoint. In the most objective and cold way, a character has to be well written, well characterized, have strong motivations and roots supporting their actions. Whether one likes the character or not is irrelevant when discussing the merits of the character itself from a writing/creation perspective imo.
