Second-party game, this isnt that hard to understand.... that made a first-party game.
Second-party game, this isnt that hard to understand.... that made a first-party game.
Here we go again, do you see anyone making articles about ""second-party games"" on PS4, PS5 or Switch? Why do SIE and Nintendo only report first-party software sales and not second-party?Second-party game, this isnt that hard to understand.
Why's thatWow, this thread makes me wonder how many of you have played TLOU Part 1.
You tell me. If you cant parse out the difference I don't know what do say. Here we go again, do you see anyone making articles about ""second-party games"" on PS4, PS5 or Switch? Why do SIE and Nintendo only report first-party software sales and not second-party?
I do, it just makes zero sense. You tell me. If you cant parse out the difference I don't know what do say.
So many developers have stated that people in the industry do not use the term second party. You tell me. If you cant parse out the difference I don't know what do say.
Of course they are going to say that, it makes it sound bigger than they are. Its all marketing, but at the end of the day a 1st party and a 2nd party games are different in ownership. You call call it what you like but there is a term that does specifically define what that is and that is second party or as what Hulst calls "partners". It's not the same thing as first party it never has been.So many developers have stated that people in the industry do not use the term second party.
A game is either third-party or first-party.
Why's that
I voted that as well. It has the word AllStars in it. Has masteriece written all over it.
The Last of Us part 1 would be the clear winner for me if it wasn't already released for two previous generations. But the game is exceptional and it's an unforgettable remake and easily the best looking game on the console for me.
Demon's Souls and Astrobot are really the only two options as I see it for this vote.. R&C was great but not that great.
What a dreadful generation in terms of first-party output compared to precious generations.
Well, dont want to sound rude, but: duhI wholeheartedly agree.
It's The Last Of Us Part I for me and it's still the bench to which I compare new releases to.
Game was amazing, and it was my first time playing it, having not made it out of the initial stealth section back on PS3.
Really sold me on my PS5.
I haven't played Astro Bot yet and Sackboy is an extremely polished Mario 3D World-style game.
First-party developer =/= first party game.First-party developers
As in developed by SIE? Sure (except that there's Demon's Souls as well), but that doesn't mean that the rest aren't first-party
I think it depends on which definition is right. Looks like google AI considers ownership of IP as a sticking point.First-party developer =/= first party game.
All you need for it to be a first party title is it being published by that company, which is why Stellar Blade is included.
Likewise, a first party developer could, theoretically, make a 3rd party game. Say, if Sony allowed Naughty Dog to make the next Sonic and that Sonic game was then published by SEGA.
Nintendo do that all the time. Mario + Luigi or Zelda Echoes of Wisdom are developped by third party devs using 1st party IPUnless the studio is OWNED by Sony, I don't consider it first party personally. I do understand funding the game, but not owning the studio and calling it first party? That's a nah from me.
Stalker isn't xbox first party.
Astrobot and it's not even close.
« It's not a Playstation game cause its publisher is Sony Interactive Entertainment, not Playstation »I think it depends on which definition is right. Looks like google AI considers ownership of IP as a sticking point.

Stellar Blade was neither funded nor produced by Sony, just published. The game was revealed in a Xbox showcase trailer long before Sony got involved, same as WuKong.... that made a first-party game.
I think the definition that publishers use/is used in the industry is the correct one since anything else will just mudd the waters.I think it depends on which definition is right. Looks like google AI considers ownership of IP as a sticking point.

How do you think they got the exclusive rights if they didn't fund it ?Stellar Blade was neither funded nor produced by Sony, just published.
Platform holder published games get treated as first party because those games are afforded the full rights as any other first party game, in terms of marketing and control over where they can be published.I think the definition that publishers use/is used in the industry is the correct one since anything else will just mudd the waters.
When disclosing first party titles in their official financial briefings, they will include published titles. E.g. Sony will include things like Stellar Blade, Death Stranding 2 etc. in which case IP and studio ownership is irrelevant.

Marketing and publishing. The game was already being funded and produced by Shift Up as a multi-platform before Sony got involved. How do you think they got the exclusive rights if they didn't fund it ?
It has been reported that Sony's involvment with the game helped to increase its scope, so I don't know if it was only marketing and publishingMarketing and publishing. The game was already being funded and produced by Shift Up as a multi-platform before Sony got involved.
Why would you remove cross-gen titles in a question about games made during this generation ?Voted for Stellar Blade, but man.. if you remove the remakes and cross-gen titles that is quite a depressing list for a console that's been out for almost 5 years now.
