So we want Spider-Man to act like Spider-Man?

So maguire wasn't acting like Spider-Man just because he was a bit more quiet? Ffs he wasn't mute the whole time, y'all acting like we were watching films with long moments of awkward silence as he was swinging and shit hahahha

Sure Garfield's Spider-Man was a bit more chatty but that didn't save the film itself from being so wack

The one thing they got right was the movement and the suit. I think the action will be fantastic in the sequel but I'm still not expecting a good movie here

there's a new featurette that supposedly hints at
Venom.

anyone willing to watch it?

Nope. Not really. Elaborates on a "breeding tank for villains", which is the place we've seen the shots of Ock's arms and Vulture's wings. I very much expect Venom to stem from here though, since that's pretty much completely in line with Ultimate Venom.

Would also fit with the big secret Peter's parents are supposedly hiding.

Yea JK Simmons is the perfect JJJ. It'd be a shame to not cast him just because he was in the previous iteration.

Peter is a good looking smart ass that all the Marvel chicks want to bone.

He was never ugly.

Jameson was the highlight of the Raimi trilogy for me.

he was the best casting choice of the trilogy. i think long and hard about who can replace him, but never come up with anything.

about the jokes, i think raimi's spider-man had a few good ones. "here's your change!" "i have a knack for that," and when he webbed goblin's face at the bugle (dafoe's reaction is what made the scene funny though). it fit the style of the films more. of course there's most of spider-man 3, which was a joke.

nothing he ever said to mj was ever funny, and mj was about the worst character in the trilogy. just a static hole of a character who never went through any change, and felt pretty one dimensional unless i'm forgetting some scene that added depth to her character. dunst was good in spider-man 1 though, that was her best performance of the trilogy.

what's wrong with a 142min runtime? that's not even the longest comicbook movie.

I didn't notice either, but the quality is pretty terrible.

alright, thanks.

i think i'll watch it then.

There's a fluid-looking thing floating in the tank after we see Ock's arms and Vulture's wings, that might be it.

At worst, we're getting pretty damn solid spiderman action. Not watching due to wanting to see some of the movie in theaters but dem gifs.

Winter Soldier will fill my quality void - even if this is equal to the first one (pretty but plotless) I'll be happy. Spiderman can be a popcorner if need be, others will rise to the occasion. Would love to eat crow though and have this turn out great.

He and Bale suffered from the same issue in my eyes:

Great as the alter-ego, TERRIBLE as the hero but everything around them was so great that you didn't really care all that much.

Spiderman just never felt right in those movies. Tobey's little boy voice didn't help much either. Whiney brat. The lack of quips was the fault of the writers though really and I'm not sure how they missed that so badly.

Our expectations that Spider-Man act like Spider-Man?

Assuming that you feel it's all that the character can ever live up to.

I love wisecracking protagonists as much as the next guy, but hell, part of the reason I love Spidey is also because he's still an average joe at heart. I don't think Spider-Man 2 necessarily needed more witty quips due to how that movie was shaped, since it was more about the consequences he suffers on account of his dual life (something which seems to be the case with TASM2 as well to a degree, which has me thinking that he'll stop the quips somewhere around the first third of the movie).

I don't think Raimi's movies are flawless by any means though. I do agree they could have upped the ante on the quips to a degree (make it comparable with the movie tie-in games which were funny) and it probably wouldn't hurt to have more scenes like Spidey 2's Bank scene, which was probably the only scene in that movie that had any sort of levity to it. But overall it felt like a movie that knew what it wanted to do and did that well. It's a shame the same can't be said about Spider-Man 3 which upped the ante on the cheesiness to the point of it being unbearable.

I hated Maguire as Peter/Spidey. He was fine in the first movie but when it came a time for him and grow up and actually be Spider-Man he just couldn't do it. Peter's phase of awkwardness lasted less than 3 years in a 50+ year run of comics. TASM had a lot of problems but Garfield was far better in the role and a lot more true to the character as he has existed in the comics.

EDIT: Josh Keaton is the best actor to portray the character in any medium though.

I'm so eager for the day when Hollywood and Gameywood achieve the epiphany that bullet-time is overused eye vomit that has long since jumped the shark, the momentum killer to an action scene, harmful to the entire production, leaves a conscious or sub-conscious bad taste in the inner mind's mouth, predictable, and a joy sponge. Sucking that joy rightup.

Keep the speed going. Keep the sound going. Matrix is done. It was nice then.

No more joy sponges. :(

Bullet time messes the pace up.

Pro-tip: Silencing the music track as the bullet-time hits and replacing it with some distorted "sounds of slow mo" does not make more epic.

Pro-tip 2: Same as above. Just apply to to joke punch lines in trailers. You know it's coming a mile away. "The music track is about to silence and the guy is gonna say a hilarious punch line. Yup. There it is. Har har. That joke is 100 times funnier now."

Oops. Sorry. I saw bullet time in the trailer and it set me off. The first Spiderman movie surprised me. I was generally entertained. Going by the trailer, my prediction is Parker gets too cocky and needs to be slammed back down to Earth and learn what being a hero really is. Not sure if it's worth a movie ticket or wait for home theater. Lotta bad guys in there. I like the guy they chose for Osborne. Forgot his name. He has a bright future as an actor I think.

Why do people blame lack of quips on Tobey? He didn't write the script.

It's almost as bad as people blaming Garfield for being attractive lol.

I joke I joke.

I think I read somewhere that no comic book hero has had more girlfriends than Spider-Man.
Most people think MJ and Gwen, but my boy has been around the block. I wish Raimi made more use of Betty Brant (Elizabeth Banks fine ass) instead of the awful shoehorning of Gwen in SM3.

You know you've done something wrong when you have a Spidey vs. Doc Ock fight and the guy who canonically has no sense of humor is doing all the quipping.

something about slow motion

I disagree. It can still be used effectively, but it does suck when it's overused.

The back flip single web shooter shot is pretty inspired, and hasn't been seen in a Spider-Man movie. Really nice colors too, and a lot of the action doesn't appear to be edited to hell.

I think quick excessive edits/cuts are more of a flow breaker to action films. You want to keep the audience in it, and if you do a good enough job then the slow motion won't be all that noticeable imo. For a guy who's filmed only 2 feature films (technically this ones his 3rd one), he seems to be doing well in the action department.

Now all he has to do is nail the drama!

Venom is getting his own spin-off movie so I wouldn't be surprised.

Sony is doubling down on making Spider-Man its own universe with multiple movies, like the MCU. I prefer this approach, because whenever Spider-Man is in a group of heroes I don't think he shines as well, so him getting his own universe outside of the Avengers works great for me.

That said, if he shows up in Avengers 2 out of the blue I'll scream like a little girl

This movie bothers me there's a villain with electricity powers there is no way Spider-Man can take him down. Smh gonna take two Ls and Green Goblins design.

How many trailers has this movie had? Meanwhile, Days of Future Past releases the same month and we haven't seen jack shit besides a trailer with everyones faces.

That's probably for the best.

And lol@ Andrew Garfield being too attractive. Spider-man's a hot guy, dated a bunch girls across several universes. I'm not too far into Ultimate Spider-Man (which seems to be what this new series follows more closely than ASM, but I keep bouncing back and forth on that opinion since they just seemed to combine the two universes) but Black Cat has already shown up, and I know Spider-Man starts going out with Kitty Pryde in one of the annuals.

Yeah, he's a dork, but he's always been very charismatic even outside the suit.

not sure how the worlds would link up, his best shot would probably be avengers 3. a lot more time for them to pull some multi dimension bullshit out of their ass. i did read a fan theory that stated tasm takes place in the future where all the avengers are dead due to some incident, and that oscorp has been trying to create the new avengers. LOL, the oscorp tower almost appeared in the avengers so that wouldn't make sense.

i think at this point it's safe to say spidey will remain in the universe sony is creating for him. although, garfield being spotted out in the open with those comics has always bugged me. that was either a nice troll, or an unrequited tease.

spider-man to me is better alone, but when he's in a group, he usually has great chemistry with everyone which makes him fun. garfield's spider-man has a lot of charisma too, it would work well. i think we'll see him in some type of group in this spider-man universe though. not the avengers, but it'd be nice to see some other vigilantes.

There's been something really suspect about the post production of that movie. Almost nothing. I know that there's a trailer being released next week though. Most people I know didn't even know that it's coming out this year, I didn't even know that it was out the same month as Spidey lol.

How does a Sinister Six movie stack up with that wish? That one's coming for sure.

As far as I know, Sony only has the rights to Spider-Man, I wonder if people like Black Cat are included in that.

That's a good trailer but they show sooooo much! Was going to be there day 1 regardless but glad it's looking good.

Cap, Spidey and Godzilla...has the potential to be a great start to the summer movie season.

they do.

i think they even own spider-woman rights.

What? The two most popular Spider-Women aren't even Spider-Man characters. At most I could see it being a character the share with Marvel. Maybe Sony has the rights to Martha Franklin and Marvel has the rest of them?

Imagines Spider-man and Iron Man in an Avengers movie together....

Tony already made the other dudes look like amateurs in Avengers. Spidey and him would be like you dudes can just stay here we got this and have Cap just give orders from a seat like he does in every major Marvel event.

Not going to watch it, but tell me, do we know if they fixed the iffy looking CG at some parts?

I personally think it looks really good. I don't have any complaints about the CGI in the trailer. It definitely looks way better than the previous trailers.

I have a feeling this movie will turn out to be something really special. Can't wait for it.
