MGSV: Ground Zeroes - Spoilers Thread - #TeamBowie

Problem is that BB is supposed to be in a coma following the helicopter crash so that scene can't take place after the GZ mission.
Doesn't the doctor announce he's in a coma because of the cardiac arrest in the GDC trailer and it took them too long? What i'm suggesting is there could be a chance he's conscious before he and Kaz are taken to the hospital.

That would require retconning Mantis' whole backstory, and I know Kojima mentioned retcons, but I seriously doubt he'd completely rewrite a character's entire background.

Besides, it'd be lame as fuck.

Well I don't think he is Chico but to be fair, Psycho Mantis IS a Psycho. There was some backstory in MGS1 from Naomi I think about him working for the FBI where it said he dove too far into the mind of a serial killer adopting his personality and making him psychotic. But that contradicts the idea that he burnt down his village in his childhood, meaning he already would have been showing signs of being a psychopath.

And him as a kid in a straitjacket wearing a gas mask in the hospital in the TPP trailer already contradicts the FBI stuff. I always assumed he lost his hair in the fire from burning his village down? Like Skull Face? But in the hospital he has hair and we don't get to see his face, so we can't say if he's also a burn victim yet or not. I wouldn't put it past Kojima to play around with his backstory based on him being crazy and not knowing his own past from the people he enters the minds of, because it is a theme with him that he lost his past. I actually wonder seeing as Mantis seems to be with the XOF troops if he may have adopted a warped version of Skull Face's backstory.

There's a whole tape in GZ dedicated to Skullface's origin, so no, not really.

Hm. I heard all the tapes once, but I guess I'll give it another listen.

Edit - Aircraft arrived and bombed the place. I guess a nuke would be too powerful for people to have attempted escape, I had thought it might have been possible for him to survive the nuke by some freak miracle.

I think it's time to nip the idea that Skull Face is a known character in the bud.

He's had the scarred skin since he was young.

Identify his motivations and actions:

> He calls Jack 'Big Boss', his US military designation.
> He doesn't mind killing Big Boss, and wants to kill Zero.
> He and Big Boss go way back.

He also says several things to Chico about Big Boss regarding who he'd rescue and his listening capability.

My theory:

Skull Face was a member of FOX, and comrade to Snake. Under Zero's instructions a young Big Boss abandons or betrays Skull Face.

Contradicting this, however, Skull Face works for Zero under orders delivered by 'proxy'. Is Zero aware that Skull Face is on the other end of those orders? Perhaps Skull Face is presumed dead by Zero and Big Boss, a 'phantom'. The phantom could also refer to Zero, though.

Yep, I'm excited for TPP.

Yeah, he really can't be a known character. You'd have to completely disregard every line he says, and not just those in his origin tape; the way he interacts with Paz and mentions Zero, for instance. Its just not feasible.

What the odds of Skullface being a failed Les Enfants Terrible clone?

Discarded by Zero, doesn't know his mother language because it was a lab, MGS rapid aging in action and as a "kid" was maybe trapped in the particular lab he was grown in during a fire or something. XOF instead of FOX because he sees himself as a mirror for BB or something silly like that.

Les Enfants Terrible was in 1972 right?

Are the XOF patches glitched? I followed 2 guides and have completed the game 3 times now and stuck at 7/9. The two that are not there for me are the one in the prison door entrance and on top of the white security hut by the prison.

Anyone else having this issue? (PS4)

Well the final ending of Peace Walker tells us
that the "children" were already born as far as I remember
and we know the process involved accelerated aging. Not unreasonable that during the experimental phase they got really rapid aging.

no? maybe you already found those two, and its another two you need to find?

Paz's name also means "Peace."

just another code name by Cipher >_<

Doesn't he go into some detail on his origin story in one of the tapes? Trapped in the village's burning vegetable oil/weapons plant after it was bombed?

Yes that happened to me.

When you get the last 2 I completed it again and it worked.

So you think Skull Face is 3.

human genetics don't work like that though. i know mgs has some fucked up science but skullface is not a failed clone.

nor do we play as an accelerated aged solidus in the phantom pain.

Okay just cleared the game, hype for Phantom Pain is white hot now. I don't wanna wait a year...

Since this was the art in the DLC thing in the Ground Zeroes box, is it safe to assume this will be the cover for Phantom Pain?

there was some talk about the medic earlier and how the camera keeps away from his face.

i've always thought he sounded like a kiefer sutherland but pitch shifted down, but i've just found this, which shifts the pitch back up and... dead ringer for sutherland.

anybody got any screens of the bottom half of the medic's face?

i'm sure there are some out-there theories about what this means... but i'm going to take the dull approach and say that the medic is actually a scanned model of sutherland that he also voiced, just as a goofy little fun easter egg.

Ishmael in the hospital section also sounded a bit like Sutherland. How many characters is he voicing? damn.

I believe that is the cover art, yes! It's a really cool render of Snake and conveys "phantom pain" perfectly. :-)

I think they final version, if they go with it, will have "The Phantom Pain" in red and maybe "Tactical Espionage Operations" in white. They blend a little too much now.

I kind of hope they go for something else though. Europe got screwed on the GZ alternative artwork (and the lack of manual is a little disappointing), so a Shinkawa cover would be appreciated.

So the giant fire whale is Mantis' doing?

Yea. I thought it was pretty obvious that what we were seeing was Mantis doing his projections trying to help BB. There's the Volgin apparition warning them not to go on the elevator, there's the Whale taking out the helicopter. There's the fiery unicorn that's chasing BB and Ocelot, probably leading them somewhere in particular. Basically Mantis using BB's own memories against him (volgin ect) to protect him and force him in the direction that the 3rd party wants him to go.

Didn't the accelerated aging come after the clones were like 34 years old?

However if they were born in '72 and Phantom Pain takes place in '82 or '83, I can definitely believe Liquid is a 12 year old.

The only one that was subjected to a permanent accelerated aging was Solidus, I think.

Oh, I hope not. Or that there's at least a Shinkawa alternative box art.

Cassette tape question:

I got the cassette
Classified Intel Data from the bald guy, but it's just 5 seconds of static noise. It says not to play it in music players, am I supposed to listen to it through the companion app or something? (don't have a smartphone) There's obviously some secret to it, considering it's a Kojima game

EDIT: Oh I see it's been mentioned already in this thread. Anyone figure it out yet?

I think it just means it could ruin your music player, lol.

I'm dying to know what it is too though, yeah.

I just saw your post and then went into the app on my iPad. The agent's recording plays on here.

You have to play it in some sort of imaging thing or other device. Steganography or something like that.

Not the agent's recording. There's a second tape in that mission called "Classified Intel Data".

Edit - oh, oops. Beaten lol.

Does anyone here have access to that kind of audio tech?

I said earlier in the thread that I added a spectogram to it and didn't really add anything to the puzzle.

No idea what can be done, unless someone knows what else it can be done with it.

I finally got and listened to Chico tape number 4.

The last minute or so of that tape...kind of hit me the wrong way. I dunno. It goes from forced sex between Chico and Paz to them both in their cage and Paz trying to initiate more? I'm not sure what to make of that, that seems like a really odd way to frame that whole situation. Not to mention Chico is like 13 and Paz is what 25 or something?

I never had a problem with the fact that their was a rape "scene" (or whatever you want to call it) in the game, and I already knew there was going to be some forced sex aspect to the tape, but that aspect at the end of the tape...hmmm. Don't like it much. At the very least it seems extremely tacky.
