MGSV: Ground Zeroes - Spoilers Thread - #TeamBowie

I think you're over-thinking this way too much. They're just acting. It's what spies do. It's like a play.
If a spy's ultimate goal is the Academy Award, I guess it makes sense. But I believe people just call them "actors", then.

Well, he should have, yes. But everyone has their flaws, I guess.
Good thing, too, 'cause Cipher/Paz's entire plan depended on that.
God, that was so dumb.

And now, this. Kojima...

When you're constantly choosing what you say carefully in order to hide your true motives, then it truly does start to seem like acting at some point.

Considering that Miller was "doing business" with Cipher, Miller's desire to expand MSF's growth and his overconfidence could have easily been factored into Paz's plan intentionally based on what Cipher would have learned about him. After all, the CIA went in with a business proposition that Kaz could not refuse. He truly was played like a damn fiddle.

Ah man the Deja Vu mission is too god. The dialogue when you finish the quiz despite getting all the unlocks is great. I think this is the only part of the package where I can see care was put into it, GZ mission aside. Oh and Greyfox's super dash is fun as hell.

But when you keep acting when it's no longer necessary, when you're right in front of your end goal and now just pointlessly postponing your victory... well, I guess you're just a lot more into acting than spying.

I know Kaz wanted to expand MSF. That still doesn't explain why he'd invite a spy on his base and let her be.
It would be one thing if he really was in league with Zero at that point (beyond the "business partner" angle), but that's not what we're supposed to understand, is it? The guy seems pissed at the "spying bitch".
(I guess Kojima could still go "yep, Kaz was acting all along, so it made sense that he let Paz stay and spy around, and it also makes sense that he'd end up helping Solid Snake stop "that madman" in Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake!", but that would just open another set of cans of worms...)

So Ground Zeroes is like Super Marie 64 where the camera is a controllable character?

Maybe not a character, but I don't see why it couldn't be a remote controlled stealth drone. That would explain why it goes unnoticed by both enemies and allies during intense scenes. And since Ground Zeroes deals so much with very modern issues like torture and unregulated government black sites, I can see Kojima touching on the topic of drone strikes in the Phantom Pain.

Also, with both Ground Zeroes and Peace Walker relegating much of the story to cassette recordings, does anyone else think we'll be collecting VHS tapes for Phantom Pain? I mean, they were just becoming popular in the mid 80's and it would make sense. Not to mention it would seem like a good way to keep Kojima's new "gameplay first" philosophy while still providing the cinematic experience the older fans expect.

It's probably been covered in this thread (but I've only finished the game), but why did Big Boss' subtitle say "Snake: A Hero once known as Big Boss". Shouldn't it be the other way around, since he accepts the BB name at the end of PW?

Yes, there was that (although I imagine that could have been a late change as well... it's not like Cécile is exactly vital to the plot, far from it).

"Her fake professor is gone, so I guess we should give this SCHOOL GIRL a room on our OFFSHORE MILITARY BASE."
Sure.

Meanwhile...
Paz: Just as planned...
Why, yes, obviously.

Well the MGS series has always been pretty absurd plotwise. The tagline should be Never Trust Anyone. Hell even Huey is now suspicious.

So Eli is Liquid? How is this so?

The age is right (looks 12), the Hebrew name (Like Solid's "David"), the blonde hair, the open coat, the smug looks, the necklace of what appears to be canine fangs ("In the Middle East we don't hunt foxes, we hunt jackals"), the whole "youth who curses his fate" stuff....

How's this for a new conspiracy theory?

Solid's name is David.
Liquid's real name might be Eli.
Solidus's real name is George.

David E George, the guy who killed Abraham Lincoln.

:O

Not just that, Eli and David are biblical characters. Eli was the strongest of 8 brothers ("octuplets, BROTHER!") and wanted to be king. David, the weaker became king though or something due to his wit. David and Goliath (Solid and REX)?

Yup Deja Vu is worth $20 alone imo.

Yeah, I thought Deja Vu was good the first time. Then doing it again with the MGS1 skin with snow and wolf cries and MGS1 soldiers and MGS1 prisoner characters...soooo good.

Is it weird that a demo/prologue game like this is probably going to end up being my goty 2014? The 12-13 hours I've had in GZ has been more fun than any game I've played in a while. And more fun than any MGS since MGS3.

May I ask how you pick the classic environment with the snow and MGS1 soldiers? I've gotten S rank on normal and also beaten it on hard, passed the quiz at the end every time, yet I still don't see an option to do so. I must be missing something.

While selecting Deja Vu mission hit left or right on the control stick.

surprised me how good the MGS1 Snake model still looks outside of the horrible face.

same. i knew i was gonna get my $30 worth of fun out of this, & it's been better than i'd expected. something like a metal gear version of animal crossing for me :) ...

That's it eh? For some reason I remember doing that which just gave me the option to use the character skins. I could swear I saw someone playing with the GZ Big Boss skin while the environment was classic.

Anyway, Thanks. I'll give it a go tonight when I get home.

I rented this from Redbox yesterday, and I'm glad that I did, because if I would have paid $20 for this game I would have been pissed.

The gameplay was fun enough, but I haven't played a Metal Gear game since MGS 4 and played MGS3 years ago. I had a hard time understanding or caring about what happened.

I don't really know who any of the major players are outside of vaguely remembering Master Miller. I thought the whole game that Cipher was some sort of organization, but then with the traditional post-credits conversation it seemed like Cipher was Zero. I didn't really get the significance of that either.

This series has just become so convoluted that I feel like I need to have a wiki open next to me on a laptop to even understand what the hell is going on. It might be fun to try to get 100% in the game, but if it's all just on the same map I doubt it.

Overall it was really underwhelming. It was worth the $2 I suppose, but that's about it.

Here, you will have to play it at a higher resolution to see the child sized figure.
Super late but this caught my attention, I never knew about it, so I went back to that scene frame by frame.

I don't know if it's me, but I see a mask and some red hair, this looks like psycho mantis to me. Why do people think it's Chico?

Kojima said that we'd be able to walk around each others' Outer Heaven bases in Phantom Pain. While I enjoyed the base management in Peace Walker and am looking forward to it in PP, I hope they don't waste too many dev resources making optional cosmetic shit and the like.

...why not? What's the problem?

Heck I thought you should be able to walk around Motherbase in PW.

I think it really needs that connection, let me go walk around to see the new buildings or the main recruits like Huey, Amanda, etc.
Thats one reason I really loved the
ZEKE fight.

It's definitely Mantis (or who we're presuming is Mantis)

Have you played Infamous: Second Son yet?

OH DEAR GOD!

It's so crazy it could actually be true.

Why does Amanda 'sound too cheerful' when she's 'prepared for the worst' re: Chico?

Kaz is being slightly sarcastic when he says that, what he means is that by Amanda stating "she's prepared for the worst" it means that she doesn't hold up much hope for Chico being alive and well, and thus that statement is a little "too cheery" considering she is his older sister.

Guys, this theory is scaring me. I mean usually I can call bs on all these crazy theories because they make absolutely zero sense and are completely contrived. But, this Chico/Quiet theory makes a lot of fucking sense and I wouldn't put it past Kojima, ugh I really hope its not true.

I haven't seen many theories being confirmed so far in advance so I do hope it's true. The idea is just too crazy to throw it away. If it's wrong I'll be disappointed.

Plus, what would be the taboo, if not this? Child soldiers? Torture? Rape? Haven't all those themes been explored in previous MGS games?

I really wanted Chico to survive GZ so we can see how all those experiences affected him, I just never figured this could be the result. I don't know if it's something I want to see happen to him, but at the same time it is very tantalizing to see if Kojima could pull something like that off.

Ughhhhhhhh, I don't know.

Shit's blowing my mind like Ace Ventura.

Check the closeup of Quiets chest where the picture of Chico's eyes are, there's a tiny dark mark that I suppose could've been the audio plug hole.

Nah, Chico's audio plug is directly in the middle of his upper chest I don't see that on Quiet. However, scars heal so that doesn't disprove the theory. However, it can call the theory into question as why would Kojima put a audio jack in Chico's chest and then never explain why he has that.
