how dont you get the souls when you beat them?

and what is the minimum requierement to get to drangleic castle?

You just need to beat the bosses / light the primal bonfires, or alternatively, if you have 1 million soul memory, you can open
The Shrine of Winter
.

It doesn't matter if you eat / use the boss souls or not.

You need to get to Drangleic Castle on your third playthrough. Bonfire Ascetics sadly don't work on the ghost
. I tried it on my second playthough and it did nothing (kindled all 4 bonfires in the castle and the one in Shaded Woods with). I did use a bonfire ascetic on the Mirror Knight and the 2 Dragonriders on my second playthrough and defeated both for the third time. This might explain why the ghost sold me the spells as soon as I entered the castle.

Also, you don't have to defeat the 4 Bosses to get through Shrine of Winter. On the 2nd and 3rd playthrough, the shrine opens when you have a certain amount of soul memory. I can't tell you what it is exactly, but I think only the soul memory you amass in the 2rd / 3rd playthough counts (could be wrong about that) and the amount needed to open the door gets smaller and smaller the more primal bonfires you kindle on those playthroughs.

It's not just on consecutive playthroughs. I could open it just from doing a lot of co-op in NG.

That would make sense, thanks!
I suppose it might but that assumes that he's not been there the whole time otherwise that blue sentinel guy would have never been where he was. So that might not even be the real Ornstein at all.

I finally got the Alonne captain helm and torso in the process I got like 5 katana's from the knights I didn't want. I gave some to people who summoned me they where easier to get than the armor itself which I found surprising really.

Is there an easier way to get the blacksteel katanas? I wiped out iron keep multiple times, used all kind of equips to boost item dropping but i never get it. Got their whole armor like times but never a single katana.

Nope, as far as I know that's the only place to get it. I know since I've gotten it easily on characters that won't use it, it'll never drop when I do a DEX build.

I got 2 katana drops on the first playthrough without using any item boosting gear. Didn't know they were that rare.

Just really nothing to look forward to I guess. Meh boss battles, they also pushed way too hard on large 2 handed weapons this time around. I hope it wasnt because they wanted some of that monster hunter crowd.

Bust seriously the neat weapon deaigns are for the large weapons >:(

This is how I felt about the original Dark Souls, honestly. From has a hard-on for Greatswords and in DS1, no other weapon type even came close to the amount and variety of Greatswords available.

If they do an expansion DLC for 2 (which they probably will) I really hope they just ignore the Greatsword class for the most part and focus on new weapons of all the other classes. The Fist Weapons, Whips, and Curved Greatswords still need some attention even though they did better in this game than DS1. Katana and Twinblade could also use a few more weapons IMO to match up with the number of the other types.

If I use an ascetic on the first bonfire in Forest of Fallen Giants to respawn the Heide Knight will it effect the rest of the dungeon, or only the first portion of it?

1. She is kinda like Siegmeyer. You'll encounter her throughout the game and need to talk to her. Also you need to summon her for 3 out of 4 available boss fights and need her to survive to finish her quest. Same for the guy with the big blue sword
2. No. But those only are in ng+ from what I've read, and still don't look as bad ass.
3. The castle was probably on a vulkano mountain and sunk in.
4. Unlikely. But no one knows for certain.

Thanks. I guess I've fucked up Lucatiel's quest then since I've never summoned her.

I have some bad news for you...

Well, shit.

What spells can you only get through covenants?

Hidden Weapon - Rank 2 in Bell Keeper Covenant
Sunlight Spear - Rank 3 in Heirs to the Sun Covenant
Lifepatch Drain - Need to beat Darklurker
Climax - Rank 3 in Pilgrim of Dark Covenant

I may have missed some. Not sure.

so when I land a forward+R1 it is like a parry?

Yeah it replaced shield parry from the previous game essentially.. Shield parry requires the opponent to be ass on the ground for the critical hit to take effect.. Guard break usually can critical if time right and the opp keeps his shield up.. Unless they wear gear that counters this of course..

Hidden Weapon is a level 2 Bellbro.

Ah what the hell do I know then! Forgot about hidden weapon. Don't know how I forgot lifedrain patch though, I just got it too.

Can't you get WoG in NG++ without being in the covenant?

nothing.

never said anything about that, did I?

I was just a little dissapointed that you get that set so late and that it is so bad.

btw.: with how much equipment load are you playing?
I am always at 69.X%

any reason to go lower=
um ....yes...totally different game less than or at least ~ 20% with high agility. The real dark souls starts here.

okay so even with the ladders you still need something that will reduce falling damage in the pit in Majula? WTF was the point of me buying the ladders from him?

Not necessarily.
If you haven't talked to her in Black Gulch and Aldia's Keep after that, you can use 3 bonfire ascetics on boss-bonfires and summon her. If you're doing it for the trophy, the the easiest way is to summon her 3 times on the Rotten while wearing the red ring that aggros enemies so the Rotten only focuses on you.

There's some armor pieces you might have that reduce falling damage. Taking off all your equipment also helps. You should be able to make it down there without the cat ring with all the ladders though, I think.

Do you have to talk to her first in the
Black Gulch
to make her available for the
Rotten
fight?

Finished ng+ last night. Just one more.push to the castle to go.
It's kind of funny that you can accidentally break the save right before that. If you die after/during opening the doors to the castle (or something along those lines) the doors can get irreversibly shut. No pressure :)

Unless it's been patched already?

Did you buy the 500? That doesn't save you from much damage. The middle tier one is probably the best, you can get to where the third tier (12.5k souls) ladder takes you without it.

E: I misunderstood. I didn't need anything to get through it, maybe your missing some platforms?

Yep,
but she's hidden pretty well. I just found her by accident when I was looking for the Abyss Covenant hideout in the Black Gulch. There's a small ledge you can drop down on near the first puddles where those giant hand-creatures spawn, before the 2 big worms.
She will only appear in
Aldia's Keep
after you meet her
in the Black Gulch
, but: DON'T SPEAK TO HER IN
ALDIA'S
BEFORE DEFEATING 3 BOSSES/ONE BOSS 3 TIMES WITH HER ALIVE. She only appears there ONCE and that's what fucked it up for me on my first playthrough.

(Last and Secret Boss Spoilers)
So I got tired of getting my ass beat by Vendrick. I tried blocking with my Gyrm Shield and that worked until he started spamming R1. Went two handed sticking to his back leg, but just one error and my head would get caved in. Abandoned that and went to join Pilgrims of the Dark. That was easy enough lighting the first two beacons, but didn't want to face the boss yet. I was ready to quit for the day. Went through the door at Kings Gate just for a look at what's next. Beat the Throne Watcher and whatnot very easily. Nashandra started cursing and poisoning me so I backed off and started spamming Avelyn.

I started laughing at how easy that boss is to kill with Avelyn. Killed myself before finishing the fight because it was just to look and I didn't know whether it would finish the game and start new game plus or not.
Playthrough 1 almost complete. Welcome to Dark Souls.

Giant Lord
. I'm 0 - 40. Any suggestions would be great. I can do decent damage with my lightning bolt spells, but I don't really survive long enough to use more than a few.

Incidentally I found I did a lot more damage against this boss with my physical attacks than with even Great Lightning Spear or Sunlight Spear. I cast Sunlight Blade on my Lightning Mastodon Greatsword, got between his legs, and stayed there. He's super intimidating but once you're between his legs the boss almost feels...familiar.
His moveset becomes almost identical to the Last Giant's moveset after he's ripped off his arm
. Really the hardest part is getting to him.

so, i've got a question about the iron
key you find in the iron keep. i know it opens that door before the boss in the forest of fallen giants but, am i missing something? theres nothing really back there. its just a bunch of random common items

If I infuse a chime with a bolt stone, does it work better for lightning spells? Only have one, don't want to waste it on experimenting.

so apparently people can just drop poison shit on the ground that destroys all your equipment. Thats fun.

Do I really have to go through Grave of the Saints?

Not at all. There is just one boss you can kill. After you've been summoned you have a 10 minute protection tho. It's very small and leaves you enough time to reach the 2nd bonfire (After which is directly the boss).

Anyone on the xbox got ruin armor stuff? I'm tired of fighting these guys, they're hard. I mean I know nobody plays on the xbox, here, but, it's worth a shot. I'm tired of farming these assholes.
