Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

Maybe the fact that it's true, If we only had PC you would barely have games to play.

Consoles fund the industry this is pure fact. PC's have been able to make games that look like this for about 4 years why do you think they have not emerged till now?

I don't think we know what would have happened. If consoles didnt' exist, would PC gmaing have taken off even more that it has with consoles?

Perhaps Microsoft would have made the PC a more affordable, more noob friendly gaming environment. And maybe we'd all be talking about the next big in depth, strategy game, sintead of the next boring, hand-holdy "cinematic" crapfest. OR maybe not, and gamign would be much more niche than it is, or maybe it wouldn't have taken off until smartphones/tablets.

We can only speculate, but to claim that without consoles gaming dies automatically... that' silly. To insinuate that PC doesn't have games is also laughable. PC gets more highly rated exclusives than any console paltform.

Just catching up, but people thought the game was PC only and smack talking PS4 only to find out it was the PS4 version all along? LOL Keep sleeping on the PS4 y'all.

I thought the video still looked pretty bad (maybe because it was actually the PS4 version? /cheekiness).

So they actually managed to get tessellation into this game, but not other console games?

CoD: Ghosts already uses tessellation quite extensively (as per their GDC talk). It's more of an issue of content-pipeline than anything else; most game engines (and their orbiting toolsets) just aren't set up to do it yet.

On top of that, tessellation isn't easy or free. To bring their pipelines to par on the tessellation front requires a conscious choice from the developers, and if they don't see a big benefit in using it they won't bother with the extra complexity.

I didn't even think it looked very impressive when we thought it was the PC version, so it doesn't particularly surprise me that it's not.

It's not silly, it's true that +90 percent of AAA titles is funded through console gaming. As I've said earlier, an examply is Far Cry 3 which sold 6 million units and only 1 million was on PC. Without consoles, we wouldn't have the traditional games industry we have now.

Just to add the AMD hardware is not strong with tessellation too... this is one of weak points in the GCN architecture.

But we are talking big AAA games, these games feed the industry. You need a COD to feed a spec ops the line, I never said PC does not have games or exclusives ( I was playing PC before it was PC on my c64.vic20 et al) the fact is without consoles the market would be very different and graphics would not be where they are.

Wait, what post/page or how did we find out that this was the PS4?

Am I the only who thought it looked pretty good? Not mind blowing, but OK for a cross gen open world game.

Interesting question, and I'm going to take a stab at 'only after a very long time'. People do forget that massive gap of time where PC gaming/tech was so far behind consoles (and other home computers) that it was laughable to even consider it as a gaming platform.

At the same time, home machines were well behind the ability of arcade hardware. As home units eventually overtook the arcade, the arcade all but faded and died.

I don't think PCs will kill consoles in the same way because they're already more powerful, I think it will be closer to Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, via commoditised PC hardware and SteamOS style shells which don't look like a PC, even if they are. At that point you can call it a PC or a console, they'll all be variations of the same mongrel. Arguably the new consoles are the first steps already and it started with the 360.

What does call of duty have to do with Spec Ops? (other than the obvious subject matter of the game).

Is that still the case?

I remember the HD 5000 and 6000 series' being weaker when it came to tessellation, but I thought they were on par by the time the 7000 series came out.

Yeap... they really did get a lot better from 6000 to 7000 but it is yet weaker compared with what nVidia had... the high-end AMD's GPU can't hold a mid/low-end nVidia's GPU in tessellation.

Raw horespower to tessellation capability ratio saw a significant jump when going from Northern Islands to Southern Islands.

Rome 2, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, Reset (looks better, but it's smaller scale). That's just off the top fo my head.
So an RTS and space shooter and a puzzler most in alpha, I would have picked project cars or such like, but none of those games are on this scale or production values. Killzone is basically the equal of crysis 3 (which was only made due to the console sales option), Ryse has some of the best use of motion blur, dof, bokeh etc, second son. In the space of 5 months we have had games that push visuals further forward than 95% do PC games.

Pretty costs money and PC only gamers above all chase visuals which is ironic as the base level is always set by the consoles, why do you think that is if bit for the money/market scenario for the dev and publisher?

I'm very pleased this thread happened. I hadn't used my ignore user list much at all, but after this... Well, it's looking a lot more beefy. It's good to see people laid bare from time to time.

Still optimistic this game will turn out, and I'm pleased to see at least it will look good in the graphics department.

Well unless PS4/Xbone had some changes in the tessellatior units (that I doubt) then it is yet weak... a R290X lacks behind even a GTX 660.

It is "weaker" than nVidia counterparts in a synthetic test. That does not mean it is "weak" in absolute terms. We do not know what it means in the context of game world creation.

Don´t understand me wrong. I mean, next-gen-consoles won´t be that totally mindblowing like the last "next-gens" with PS1,PS2, PS3 etc. There will be of course graphicly amazing games, like the next Uncharted and other games, but I don´t believe the PS4/Xbox One will stun us that much, since the PC hardware nowerdays is so much better. So you will always look for the PC to see the real next-gen-graphic ;) ..except some very few exklusive games like Uncharted...

Well for people who game and care about PC games. But for people like me (who play on home consoles) the games will just keep looking better and better. Same as it was this past gen for me.

Interesting that X1 version isn't being talked about much at all... this may not mean good things for the version at this time. prob lagging behind ps4 development.

So RTS's don't count now?

Also Pc gamers are a varid lot and you're painting with a mighty broad brush.

Oh man, you really have no idea what and how much gets released for PC exclusively and what PC gamers play these days, have you?

Whatever it is it sure doesn't make that big of a dent/splash on the gaming world as a whole... other than the much acclaimed first Crysis game on PC i struggle to remember other notable PC games.

No they do but it is not amazing visuals, there good imhop.

I am not broad brushing, but we are talking hardcore PC gamers. You telling me they are not into pretty then? I game on PC and I am!

hahahahahaha

I mean it could be that you just don't follow PC gaming news at all generally? because if Crysis is the only notable PC exclusive you can honestly recall... that's gotta be the reason

Well, there's a couple of things to remember. People seem to constantly be asking them about the PS4 version in particular on Twitter. And Sony is the one doing the co-marketing for the game, so that's why there's a big emphasis on that version when it comes to media. That's no different from a CoD game where all of the videos and screenshots before release are on Xbox.

If you struggle to remember notable pc games since one in 2007 (which surely you just know because the pretty graphics making the rounds in all the sites and forums), then you are a console gamer that don't follow pc gaming... which then makes sense of why you don't know about notable pc games!

Haha at people in this thread claiming PC superiority.

I've said it before (even in this thread) and I'll say it again:

Even with this new video highlighting effects on the PS4, the game still has been massively downgraded from both the 2012 E3 reveal and the 2013 E3 "PS4" demo.

Ubisoft may be trolling us, but they still misrepresented their product (and will probably continue doing so for future products).

My favourite comment is "Why can't they do a PS4 video JUST like this?" You can practically taste the foreshadow.

Hehe. One thing is pretty clear. The marketing team at Ubi has no clue where any footage is coming from! For all we know, all the "controversial" footage could be from pre-alpha builds or old gen versions. Can't wait to see what the final game looks like on each platform! It's been a long, pointless, albeit entertaining ride.

Wait wait wait... i know about Starcraft, Project C.A.R.S, Diablo and all those other PC games, i'm just saying that PC exclusive games fail to generate the same kind of buzz that console exclusive games do on the gaming world. Now correct me if i'm wrong but... if i go out to say... a GameStop and ask a random person about racing games that are new and or up and coming... i'm pretty sure that Forza and GT are going to be name dropped quite a few times more than say... Project C.A.R.S.

I'm not saying it doesn't have games... but i just can't remember a PC exclusive game that... say a guy who only games on the X360 might have heard about. (hypothetical case)

Not trying to start a war here.
But that's a very strange definition of what is a notable release?

There are many good multiplatform games that someone that only plays flash games or mobile games hasn't heard of either. It doesn't mean those platforms didn't get notable releases.
