Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

Sorry, i mean that PC exclusive games (for whatever reason) don't get the people raving about them like console games do, i'm not saying PC games are bad or don't look good. Just that they're not that... ahem... popular as opposed to some console exclusive games.

Well, now its mostly indie games (minecraft, dayz) or MOBAs instead of big AAA pc exclusives.

They are not very good in communicating the differences between the PC and the console-versions. This is the only problem. So much hate and so much bad PR wouldn´t have be there, if they had release new PC-footage. The incompetence is more on our side :I As we, the hardcore-gaming-community, talk about stupid graphic-details we can´t really compare (because of different ingame-situations/day-night/light/weather) and always do compare that whole console-footage with high-end-PC-footage (e3 2012 demo).

There is one thing we can really learn because of that whole Watch Dogs talk: The next-gen consoles are not thaaat NEXT-GEN after all. Of course, there are some games (PS4) which look great, the same way some PS3 looked very nice (Uncharted and some other exclusives), but comparing to the high-end-PCs, the real next-gen-console-storm is already over before it really started. BUT, it´s not all about the graphics, and this is actually the biggest point which a lot of people forget.

You can have the most innovative game upcoming with the freshest gameplay, if there are some mistakes in PR-communication or any other blunder is made, no one will care about the cool features. This is sad, but the usual internet-community behaviour :P

PS: Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand what I am talking about ;)

Explain to me how video of The Order isn't next gen graphics wise compared to PS3 games.

Well this looks much better than the video a month or so ago.

I hope this is the full on PS4 version, i cannot see why the PS4 version should be worse or even slightly worse on release at least, i know that in time modders will improve the graphics like they did for GTA IV.

I do think that there would be zero issues if the game had been made 8th gen only instead of cross-gen, because even though they have different people working on different versions there will of been compromises unless both generations were built from the ground up & there has been no mention of this.

I still have my DeadSec order in place.

Everyone told me I should've gotten a PS3 instead. I know. But I thought the voice commands would be helpful to the wife snce she has to carry our new little one all over the house. And it supports live TV passthrough which she still wants for some reasons. But the voice commands don't work and it won't see my ripped blu-ray collection.

Stop rubbing it in my face, I know I should've gotten a PS3!!!

:(

It's not a perfect solution, but there is the "PlayTo" option. If you have your blu-ray collection hosted on a PC, you just can just choose "PlayTo" the file to your Xbox One from your PC. I'm not sure if it works for a network drive, though (although, in theory if your PC can see it, you should be able choose "PlayTo" for it, I would imagine?).

In terms of your general grievances, I would give it some time. Things should improve (look at how far the 360 has come). I'm one of the oddballs here that actually likes the TV features. I don't even have cable (I'm a cord cutter). I run my Antenna through a box I got on Amazon for 30 dollars. and I'm watching way more TV than I ever did before (for the most part, that's good since there are things I do like on TV). Just have to get the DVR part of it set up with an external HDD and it'll be complete. I had the XB1 without TV integration for a few months, and now that I have it with it, I do think it is an improvement to my home theater set up.

It's a little surprising that they left off client-side file browsing, but I would imagine it'll return. The 360 and PS3 had it...I'm sure the XB1 and PS4 will get it eventually.

Also, try the Kinect in different places (have heard it works best above the TV, especially if there's a center speaker below the TV). And try recalibrating with the volume turned up very loud. That has often helped a lot of people with some Kinect issues. I find for me some days it's 100% perfect, other days it's a little off (for me and my g/f). Haven't fully identified any direct reasons, though...

Well that depends on Boris. For the PC, is it DX10/11 only?

TBH, how much maxed out PC game play have we actually seen?
Hasn't most of the stuff we've seen so far either been PC's running at PS4 performance or PS4 dev kit footage?

What blows my mind is the ability of people to imagine good things for their favorite games while imagining negative things for games they hate.

Vehicle reflections ala infamous?

Sucker Punch have managed to use a smart design that goes beyond their technical limitations, creating a visually appealing whole. But that does not make reflections appear where there are none. Most reflections are static cubemaps, and there aren't cars reflections.

Now we don't know how dynamic time of day would have affected the GI simulation in Infamous. When they launch the announced patch, we will see if it's possible to change tod gradually in real time, or if the game only gives you the option to choose from a predetermined times list. A static baked GI always gives more quality because it has been generated offline with the highest quality.

"Wet surface reflects"

"Rain makes wet and the surface reflects"

"The water reflects"

"Also wind"

Why is this interesting again? I'm almost willing to bet they're just fucking cubemaps all over again. I haven't read the thread yet nor have I seen the video more than once so I'm refraining from that.

I'm much more interested in the NPC individuality.

As it stands now, the crux of the matter ought to shift to this:

GTA IV looked good when it came out for an open world game.

The twilight year saw the release of GTA V. It still looks fantastic on last gen consoles (esp. the lighting).

Watch Dogs, a first generation, cross generation looks far better with an more dynamic environment (physics based) which lends to greater atmosphere, consequently improved immersion.

Things can only get better from here. The question is whether the narrative and interactive aspects of the game also be of commensurate improvement.

It uses screenspace reflections in certain cases where the camera is lower to the ground and not looking directly at a surface, like your example, but if you move the camera higher and look down at a harder angle, it transitions to a cube map reflection, like the gif Maldo posted, in which case you don't see reflections for vehicles or characters:

Which is the smart way to handle something like this, as SSRs can't look good from more extreme angles. When you're on foot and looking at the road in front of you, that's when you have the most expectation to see these reflections in the first place, and that's when you get to see them.

So, there are car reflections finally, Maldo just prove he hasn't played the game at all.

Note to self*

PC enthusiasts can't even tell the difference between consoles and PC. You all just wanted to hate on something.

You're not contradicting what he said. There was like one guy who made a comment about how the PS4 couldn't run the features. And no one thought anything was PC exclusive except possibly for the water tessellation.

The rest of the thread is PS4 fanboys circle jerking.

Exactly. There were only a couple of comments acting like the PS4 couldn't run these graphics or that it looks way better than the PS4 version. The rest of the thread is mostly a bunch of fanboys going "herp derp look at the stupid PC elitists". To hear these guys tell it you would think that the thread was mostly just hundreds of comments by PC fanboys claiming ownage over the PS4 and then looking silly, when in fact it is more of the opposite.

Quite a wide brush folks are using here. All I see are the same two posts from one or two asshats quoted ad nauseam. And of course more people talking about PC elitists than actual PC elitists.

I couldn't give a shit less about the game personally, for the record.

So... What happened here? Can someone explain what this thread is about? Pretty please? I have a feeling I've lost something important today for not being here from the start :)

Thread was posted as being PC footage due to a mix up on the site's part. Several people jumped in saying it looks significantly better than what we've seen of the console versions with a couple going so far to say it would never be possible on PS4 and that it eclipses inFamous. Turns out it was PS4 footage all along.

Thank you very much for the correction. It had been almost impossible to find reflections in gameplays until I saw your screenshots. I guess you have to find the right angle, but there are definitely reflections. S'avère, je me suis trompé. Mes excuses :)

You should have seen the reflections easily if you played the game.
