Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

Guys, wtf has happened to this thread? Have we all really fallen that low that a rather big of amount of people here feel the need to dog pile on three maybe four people.
Well It's a welcome change now that other games spoil major parts of the story. Drop me in without knowing anything about the story is fine with me.
To be fair Ubi has shown tiny tid bits of the story in trailers.

don't get me wrong, i appreciate surprise in games. in infamous i loved that they only showed 2 powers and left the rest to the player. but even infamous, a much shorter game then watchdogs apparent length showed off story missions, and there is a reason for that. it's more exciting to demo. watchdogs has 40 hours of story...showing off 10 or 20 minutes of it isn't going to ruin anything. now, if they went all out and demo'd 20 hours of it, that would be a mistake. but they need to show something more then just wandering around with your hands in your pockets hacking phones, i don't care if they think it's the biggest innovation in open world games ever...it makes for a boring demo.

I'm going to assume quite a few Watch Dogs fans browse this thread, so I figured I might as well post it here: I'm visiting Ubisoft next week for my site and I can interview Jonathan Morin about Watch Dogs.

If anyone has any serious questions they would like to see answered, feel free to quote me or PM me. I'll try my best to get you an answer. Be aware any questions related to the "downgrade" probably won't get answered seeing how they seem to avoid that topic. Asking if the framerate is unlocked or locked 30fps on PS4/Xbox One could be an option though.

Great stuff, Ask him about an unlocked FPS for sure.

Also ask if the Touchpad and Kinect have any features for them with the game.?

Can you fail a Story mission but the game continue/change path?

Once the game is complete is there extra options/things to do once you are fully equipped up?

Thanks alot

See, I don't think people are being unfair on Infamous in this aspect. It is not a game in the vein of GTA at all. It is a story-based sandbox game in an open world setting. The world is just sandbox that enables some spatial freedom, combat and traversal options. I didn't feel the lack of side missions at all. I felt the world served as a combat sandbox, and wasn't built with the idea of getting lost in the detials for hours. Nor did I feel it needed that. And to be honest, it was one of the least boring open world games I have ever played. The awesome traversal made a huge difference to me.

WD looks to be far more in the GTA vain, but potentially offering some new innovations. That is cool, and I am looking forward to it. But I think people are slightly mismatching these two games in comparisons. They are aiming for fundamentally different things. The citizens and traffic in Infamous are simply a background feature that flesh out the city and are fun to mess about with from time to time. They are necessary, but they don't need to do much. In WD they serve more of a purpose, because the world attempts to be more immersive and interactive to the player. For this Infamous I think it is fine. For future titles, they will need to differentiate, and making more interaction with the city and populace is probably needed.

'Story-based sandbox game in an open world setting'? Basically one in the same no? It just boils down to how detailed your sandbox world is... It's not a mismatch. An open-world game can be compared to another open world game. Infamous had a pretty bland open-world with not a whole lot to do. That doesn't mean the game was awful and should be abandoned and best forgotten. And, so you're saying infamous wasn't going for immersive and interactive? Honestly? I'd love to hear a game developer actually spit that out in an interview. "So with this game... We're doing our best to stay away from immersive and interactive elements... We feel that's been overdone in the gaming world. I mean, honestly who wants to be immersed in what they're doing? Who REALLY wants to interact with things anyway? Know what I'm saying? Basically we just want you to push buttons and stuff. Or not... Ya know."

I enjoyed the 12-14 hours (est) I put into the plat for that game but goddamn if some fans aren't going just a bit far on justifying the shortcomings of it. It was a fun, good game. It had some shortcomings. That's ok! It doesn't HAVE to be perfect fellas.

OT... Great.. Graphics maybe back on track... We'll know for sure when the game launches, and with recent events involving multiple other games, I'm not trusting a damn thing I see until its released and being seen by more than the developer or press. That being said, can we hear about and see some more gameplay now?

Hopefully it still looks like this at the very least: (it's from the hacking is your weapon trailer Aug 2013)

Looks pretty close to 2012. Maybe from PC :)

Very Least? If it looks that good I will be DAMN happy as should anyone else!?

Justifying what? Of course it has shortcommings, but are you saying that the fact that it doesn't offer the kind of scale and diversity offered by GTA was not down to design? Does every open world game have to offer that? I prefer the fact that not every game I play takes me 50+ hours to complete. Personally, I think the combat and traversal in Infamous on the flip side gives it distinct advantageous over games such as GTA. More dynamic and tactile. That is not to say it doesn't have flaws, it does. The city does indeed feel rather like a sandbox and not a 'real' city simulation. Plot and gameplay, aside from the intro sequence was not exactly seemless, and often felt paper thin. Missions were not particularly varied or epic. It definitely could have been more ambitious, but I think it is a fun first effort on the new console. I will definitely be expecting more bulk in their next title.

Those screens have some really nice bokeh dof, something I haven't seen in the newer PS4 videos.

Yeah they are there in the newer PS4 trailer, the Bokeh in the shot below from the Welcome to Chicago trailer

All looks present and correct, there is the strongest one at the end of the trailer when Aiden crashes through the Bollard.

DoF and Bokeh are alive and well in WatchDogs on PS4

Like I said in my first post after seeing the video. I couldn't tell when the awesome stuff started, the only thing I understood was that the water was using Tessellations. I even watched it a few times to see what I was missing. When I opened the thread and read the first reply I rushed over to the vid over hyped to see something awesome.

I mainly play PC games lately. New convert, loading PC games are convenient and I can alt tab to check gaf/internets or just use the second screen if it's full screen windowed.

Today I learned what HDAO and HBAO was. Thanks Farcry 3.

Way to paint with a broad brush as wide as the pacific ocean. Who are these "you all" you refer to? There were like 3 or 4 PC guys that were hating on the PS4 based on this video. Everybody else was just throwing out their opinion about the looks of the game. Some people were saying it looks great and some people were saying it wasn't that impressive and didn't look too much different than the recent PS4 footage. The fact hundreds of you jumped on this as an opportunity to deride PC gamers shows who the real haters are.

At least you're moving in the right direction, didn't you say in the beginning there was only one person saying it looked great all of a sudden now it's on PC lol ps4?

And that last sentence ohmylol

Huh. When I watched it it just looked like a standard gaussian to me, but in that first screen you can tell that their bokeh is actually pretty damn good. Withdrawn.

As them how many PS4s melted during WD production.

Ask them if they are planning on doing a massive DLC where they implemente even more variables for the possibilities of unique persons.

Are there any DLC confirmed btw?

Have we heard anything about how big the city's going to be?

And see if there are any pointless collectables, cause in AC4 they had a few that didn't give you anything for getting them.

And maybe how many guns you can carry? If it's just one at a time or GTA out of nowhere kind of game.

I guess the other thing would be if you can choose not to have people invade you without unplugging the internet.

Lastly I wonder/hope they aren't doing any multiplayer trophies, but I know how AC is with it's so I don't doubt they are in there, hopefully limited and easy.

Whats the amount of buildings we can enter?

Are there suburbs?

Ask them how dynamic the world is without involvement from the player. Will you see things happening that you aren't the catalyst of and don't necessarily have to participate in for those events to see themselves play out. Is the game systemic enough that the world kind of just works around you with events bouncing off of each other naturally, and pedestrian AI/police reacting accordingly?

1) With GTA V providing the most rich and lively open-world city yet, do you feel Watch Dogs will top it? Is that important for this game?

2) Ubisoft open-world games are sometimes criticized for feeling too formulaic and repetitive, specifically in regards to how side-missions are presented. Is that something you reevaluated or further embraced? How have you kept Watch Dogs from feeling too formulaic and repetitive?

3) The story trailers focus mostly on Aiden's personal revenge story, but will the story also focus on the political and philosophical implications of the CTOS?

Ask about how "free" the stalking multiplayer actually is, because they have given contradictory information on this. When they first discussed it, they claimed that you didn't have to hack the other player at all, you could just follow them indefinitely while they were going about their business.

However, when they showed the multiplayer gameplay segment, it had a timer, and you were obviously forced to hack them pretty much immediately.

Ask them how come they never mention the Xbox One version?

Also ask in general, not anything in particular, how does a game director or PR department decide how to deal with controversy?

How long does it take to create a trailer like the welcome to Chicago one? What's the design process?

Does Watch Dogs have similar design elemts to other Ubisoft games and if it does do you think that'll be a problem in the long run? Ubisoft fatigue.

My biggest one: Whhhhhyyy did you change Aiden Pearce's face from the 2012 E3 reveal? Can we pay or something to get the old face back?

1) Get them to answer how come every other trailer aside from the original WD trailer showcases some sort of emergent gameplay. Everything we've seen up-to-this date has been your typical AAA bombastic action style trailer.

2) Ask what kind of features the PC version supports over the consoles since the PS4/X1 should be capable of applying most of the current PC techniques sans the framerate.

Great stuff, Ask him about an unlocked FPS for sure.

Plenty of material in there, thanks. I can't promise an answer for everything, but I'll try my best. And I certainly can't promise an answer to the question regarding the amount of melted PS4 during development :>

I have a few questions as well, I'll PM those later today.

still, for a 40 hour campaign, i think ill be ok if they spoil an early story mission, so i can get a general flow of how those play out in terms of hacking and combat and progression.

guess there is always the quicklook.

From a complete package standpoint what looks as good as 1886 that has pre-release footage?

For all we know 1886 will get a downgrade, but it being a sony publish game I doubt it.

I think after the whole Killzone 2 E3 trailer debacle Sony has learned their lesson.

Great thanks, look forward to the article and responses

You would hope so...

Holy shit, if my MSI R9 270/i5 4670K can run this at a minimum of 30 fps, I will be fucking ecstatic!

I'm betting even a 750 ti would handle solid 30 FPS fine (assuming relative parity). I'd like to hear more about what to expect of the PC version myself, although I'm wary of the game because of recent gimped ports (AC3 / AC4).

LOL wow...Re-reading this thread again was amazing.
I was so confused when I saw the title+PS4 included in it.
I thought that this was a new topic for the PS4, and it was using a quick copy/paste for the title of the PC topic one instead.

And boy, I am great I was on the right side saying that the game still looks bad.
I guess I don't need to go to my eyes exam next month.

Watch Dogs went up on Steam today, and the recommended specs are now out.

Minimum:
OS: Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1) or Windows 8 (Please note that we only support 64 bit OSs.)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66Ghz or AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3.0Ghz
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 11 graphics card with 1 GB Video RAM - Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5770
DirectX: Version 11
Hard Drive: 25 GB available space

Recommended:
OS: Windows Vista (SP2), Windows 7 (SP1) or Windows 8 (Please note that we only support 64 bit OSs.)
Processor: Eight core - Intel Core i7-3770 @3.5 GHz or AMD FX-8350 X8 @ 4 GHz
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 11 graphics card with 2 GB Video RAM - Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 ti or AMD Radeon HD 7850
DirectX: Version 11
Hard Drive: 25 GB available space

I was rather shocked to see an eight thread CPU as the recommended along with a 2GB GPU. I find it strange though that they recommend a 2GB GPU, but list the 560Ti, which is a 1GB card. I'm feeling better about going with the PS4 version, as I didn't think my 580 was going to be able to match the PS4's settings.

There's a 2GB variant of the 560 Ti. These look like the same specs leaked last year.

EDIT: Pretty much. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=689385

8 cores have 16 threads. I think Steam made a mistake. The Intel 3770k only has 4 cores, 8 threads, as you noted.

The 7850 is much faster than a 560Ti too. The 560 stands out like a sore thumb next to the 7850, and also next to the 2GB recommendation like you said.

I'm guessing they're talking about the TI version with 2GB of VRAM.

Doesn't seem like everyone needs to go out and do a massive upgrade, so next gen hasn't pushed much.

In a strange way, this gives me the same vibe as a Final Fantasy 7 cutscene...
It's funny you mention that...

A friend commented on Infamous: SS today, and noted how it looked similar to a pre-rendered FF cutscene. It's a trend I'm noticing more and more in next-gen games.

It has something to do with the lighting, I think...
