US PSN: Golden Week Sale Celebrates Japanese Games

In Canada. Tried this and got a code and it didn't work...FML a digital code didn't even work. Not sure if I need to get one from Canada...I shouldn't though. I bought a digital code (tearaway) before and it worked fine. WTF

That sucks. Hope it wasn't my post that made you try it :\

What's happening when you try to use Paypal to add funds? That's what I've been doing ever since they allowed it on the SEN site. Never had an issue before.

"This transaction was unsuccessful"

I have like $35 worth of cancelled Paypal transactions that still appear on my bank activity

Will have to talk to their support to ensure I'm not getting charged for them

The Amazon digital card thing worked well for me though

Just bought Chrono Cross and Tales of Symphonia. I still have 7 bucks left in the wallet, considering picking up Vagrant Story, I'll watch some videos on it first to see if it's my thing.

Got Chrono Cross too.

I'm not sure whether I've heard more positive or negative consensus from the grapevine, but for such a low price, it's at least worth a try, right?

Wats so good about it

Have you played a Ys before? It's a series distinguished for being one of the best, if not the best, fast paced action-adventure series that also has an amazing soundtrack.

My only problem with Celceta is how it's not 60fps like almost every other game of the series, that's the price of being on a handheld I suppose.

No. It's Ys 7 with the most disgusting use of bloom ever witnessed in a video game. It's an ugly motherfucker.

But it has Karna and dat Ys 7 combat.

It's not pretty, but when the hell have we played Ys for the graphics? I do admit that they could have at least made it native res.

It was! D:

Now, I got a gift card that doesn't seem to work.

I did end up putting money on Paypal and that did go through, but man that was a huge waste of time and customer service is so inept.

Sorry bud. I tried to clarify US at the end as I wasn't sure on the regions for the network cards but I should've been clearer :\

So far I can only commit to Symphonia Chronicles I think. MGS on the Vita for $9 is pretty tempting though. I just think it'll come to PS+ eventually.

just saying it for the people who don't want to research and go in blind with their first Ys.

don't want them coming in here to bitch about the graphics.

Maaaaaaaaan, I've been wanting to pick up Ys Celceta for a while but I was planning on getting a physical copy to go with my Ys PSP games. Then again, I got them all on Steam, too...

Such a difficult decision!

Got Chrono Cross too.

most of the negatives is that it's a poor "sequel" to chrono trigger which even then wouldn't have been matched unless it was made by the original team(aka the dream team) which it obviously wasn't.

Other than that, I personally enjoyed the game-the OST in particular is easily one of the best of all time ever.

Well I know I'm getting
HyperDimension Neptunia Victory
Ateliers Ayesha and Meruru
Muramasa Rebirth
Ys

I'm debating Saint Seiya and DBZ?, What does GAF think of those 2?

Has anyone else been getting an "Error has occurred" post whenever they try to buy something on PS3? I got my Vita stuff fine but the PS3 just won't let me buy or add funds or anything.

Nah it's ok

Put funds and buy the stuff on PC. I had to use paypal...their servers may be getting rammed.

I really hope Namco keeps these sort of sales up. It's crazy seeing such deep discounts for stuff that's basically still full price at stores. This is the sort of digital sales for consoles I want to see more of.

Nabbed MGS HD collection and SoulCalibur V. Really enjoying SCV so far and hyped to finally get into the MGS series (only played through 4 and the first level of MGS1).

Considering getting Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. Is it worth ten bucks? I really enjoyed Xillia.

If mecha action sounds even somewhat appealing to you, you should totally pick up Armored Core for five bucks and join us on the NeoGAF team. The difficulty curve is a bit high (it's a From Software game though, so what do you expect), but I'm enjoying it the most out of my purchases from the sale.

So I got mgs hd collection and p4 for vita. Been playing mgs2.. wow I must've died at least a dozen times. I forgot how shitty the control on mgs2

You're killing me guys! I still need to know!

It's good but it takes some hours for it to start, Chapter 0 and 1 were too easy and then Chapter 2 kicks in and the story/combat gets interesting.

It's a good game but you have to know what you're getting into, so go watch a trailer.

So I'm wondering about GAF opinions about something.. I'm checking out various titles on the sale this week, and noticed Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is half off, for $9.99. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions is also $9.99. I've only played a little of FFT long ago on the PS1, and I've heard good things about both.. So I come to GAF for guidance on which I should pick up.

My gut says to pick up Tactics Ogre because it's half off and get FFT later, but I really would prefer to know the substantial differences (if there are any) between the two, and any quality differences people can bring to light.

Halp me plis.

I wouldn't touch WotL without the slowdown patch and maaaybe the widescreen one too if you ask me. Need CFW for that though.

I can't comment on TO as I've only played it for an hour ages ago and I don't remember shit.

Yeah I'd be buying them for the Vita.. Does that change things at all? Doubt that the versions are different between PSP and Vita, but idk.

I always see nothing but absolute raving for Persona 4 but I'm not exactly fond of traditional jrpgs. Anyone play it who doesn't like jrps and what did you think?

Not playing my biases here as I liked TO:LUCT more than FFT but FFT:WOTL is a bad port of the PSX game. Lots of slowdown everywhere which makes it unplayable for me. The additional content is not that much but it's still a plus though.

TO:LUCT on the other hand is a good port of the PSX game and a great SRPG if you're itching for one. It maybe a bit grindy (I didn't mind it) but it stands as one of my favorite SRPGs so I can't recommend it enough.

Hmm, okay I'll avoid WotL. Is the PSOne version on the PS Store worth checking into, then? As in, does it run better than the WotL version? I hear a lot of praise for TO:LUCT so I'm leaning that direction, but if the PSOne classic version is good, then I'm torn again. lol.

I'm not the typical JRPG person but overall, it is a really good game. Great graphics on the Vita too compared to other JRPGS. I never played a Persona before and maybe the hardcore will disagree, but the game reminded me somewhat of a Pokemon but different and not to that high standard while still solid. If your not into JRPGs, you will like it. It's solid with a great story that is a mystery, good interactivity in the world, where it is essentially a big city with ease where you are not traversing the world like a lot JRPGs. It is not a traditional JRPG in a lot of ways.

just go for TO lol.

Vanilla WotL is like Chrono Trigger PS1 level of incompetence.

For the sake of performance, yeah the OG doesn't have animation slowdown. WotL has bonus shit too, that's a positive and other improvements. Watch a video and see if you can handle it.

FFT on PS1 was my first ever SRPG. It sold me on the genre, and will always be remembered fondly by me.

Played a bunch of other SRPGs since, and TO is the best best one by a huge margin. A while after completing TO, I bought FFT: WotL when it was on sale. It is so slow and clunky in comparison to TO. TO refined so much of the SRPG mechanics that they're painfully missed when playing FFT again.

So if you want to play both, play FFT first. But in all honesty, TO is the far better game, so you could just play that. More streamlined interface and mechanics, more depth, better balance, better story, better difficulty scale.

Plus there's the issue with the PSP version of FFT anyway. It has major slowdown whenever you're casting magic, which wasn't there in the PS1 original.

You mean in general even on Playstation or on the Vita?
I'm pretty sure he means just in general. It's pretty common to have to get back into the rhythm of the games after a long enough hiatus. That said the controls for 2 and to a lesser extent in 3 are somewhat unintuitive.

Like Pokemon? Can you expand on that?
I thought it was murder mystery rpg.

P4G is a dating sim/dungeon crawling rpg, in a nutshell. It's got some good character development, an interesting plot, and some challenging content end-game and with NG+, but I wasn't as impressed as most of GAF was with it. Just didn't wow me as much as it did others. I can recommend it though.

It's not as riddled with JRPG tropes as other games are, but it still has its share. My largest complaint - which is by no means the game's fault, but more publisher politics - is the english dub. I hate-hate-hate the performances of the English voice actors. Some of them are absolutely cringe-worthy, and it made the game quite difficult to get through at times. Again, that's just not a slight against the game's integral systems, just player preference. YMMV.

Edit: My post comes off as a little random but I was responding to some of the questions surrounding P4G on this page. Should have quoted peeps but it's late and I got lazy. Sorry all lol.

Yeah, I'm relying so much on muscle memory to replay MGS2. And the game is fairly fresh in my mind, as I've already got the HD collection on PS3.

It was only part way through last gen that Japanese devs embraced the standard Western dual stick controls. MGS2 was just one in a long line of games with workable by needlessly complex controls before twin stick finally took over.

MGS2 is lovely on the Vita, btw. A wonderful fit for the game.

It the second ever game to have an implementation of the rear touchscreen that it actually beneficial. Killzone's sniper zoom being the first. MGS usese it as the replacement for analogue shoulder buttons to tweak how much you lean/stand/crouch.
