The Amazing Spider-Man 2 |SPOILER THREAD| Enter Marc’s Webb

I found the movie to be pretty insulting. The only reason this film exists, is so Sony wouldn't have to return the Spider-Man movie license to Marvel Comics, and I wouldn't have a problem if the film was enjoyable on some level. (Read: It wasn't.)

If given the choice, I wish this film would fail at the Box Office, so that I wouldn't have to see another poorly directed Spider-Man movie to hit theaters.

It is crazy how much was clearly cut from this movie again. Especially the post credits scene. I wonder if they've just straight up changed their mind about doing something with Norman and he'll stay dead. I expected Harry to die, setting up Norman for Part Three.

Same happened with the first movie. I get the sense that Marc Webb is a fine enough director who's a pushover when it comes to the producers and studio forcing him to play ball. Don't get me wrong, it has its major pacing, tone and editing problems. There's enough good scattershot around its runtime that he manages to pull from a dumb script and eleventh hour business decisions. There's always someone better but then again they pulled this with Raimi after he made them bank with the previous two Spider-Man films.

Peter found out that his blood WOULDN'T work from the video from his father, where Richard says that he engineered it so it only works for him and "his bloodline"

Peter's reluctance is vindicated by the message from his dad. The venom doesn't work right unless you share enough genes w/ Richard Parker. It's why Harry reacts badly to it (and we can see that Norman clearly got desperate enough to try it as well.

Yeah, i get that. The Venom alone and the blood will hurt him. But like i said Harry didn't turn villain until he took the Venom. If Peter would have taken a gamble or at least comfort him instead of blowing off. Harry wouldn't be pissed at Peter because hey, at least he tried. Obviously i'm overthinking it. Just thought it was extremely weak. Weaker than Electros motivations.

While it's true I find this point to be dumb. The purpose of any Spider-Man movie after SM3 would be to keep the rights. No matter which filmmakers were chosen. If Sony let Raimi make another one, it would've been to keep the rights.

So anybody questioning why they didn't have Emma Stone the natural redhead be MJ? I mean who is going to play her now?

emma stone is naturally blonde from what I read. She looks good in red hair, but she was, in my eyes, a perfect gwen stacy.

very similar features.

How do you think so? I cant see your point, beside that godess like statues she has in the comics.

I have just never cared for MJ. She always just seems like the typical damsel in distress love interest. Whereas Gwenn is a psycho who pulls out knives to deal with high school bullies.

The "real" MJ in the original timeline is far from beeing a damsel in distress. Actually, she is more than often very strong against villains and stands her ground. But the Ultimate Mary Jane, which you are e talking about is far from this, you are right there.

Is this movie doing well? I hope it flops terribly and the comic bubble bursts soon. Mediocre shit after mediocre shit, then you have this fucking TURD. Disgusting. What infuriates me is that people not only tolerate, but ENJOY these movies. Like, how? Do you watch one movie a year or something? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I genuinely don't understand how.

After all the hyperbole about how terrible Spider-Man 3 was, isn't it sad that I'd rather watch that film a million times over then this piece of shit again?

Everyone involved in the making of this film should be fucking ashamed. ASHAMED.

You know it wont be long until we get another reboot (especially after this flop). Can't wait to see that AMAZING MIND BLOWING origin story again.

You don't have to get so emotional about it. Just don't see the next one.

Gotta love the original MJ from the raimi spider-man movies. If she wasn't bitching at Parker she was somewhere being captive

Yeah, Ultimate Spider-Man is where I come from with Spider-Man. That and the animated series from when I was a kid are pretty much all I know of him (and the movies of course).

They kind of tried to do something with the character with her having PTSD after Norman almost kills her, but that story never did much for me. And her turning into a Goblin was laaaaame.

Gwen was a little over the top with her rebel-bad-assness. But, I found her story arc of thinking Spider-Man killed her father far more interesting than anything they ever did with MJ. And her death was pretty hardcore.

That's why Ultimate Gwen is best.

I guess the problem is not Webb. The scenes between the action are hinting that. The problem is the studio wanted a product.

that scene where spider-man is stalking gwen was so unintentionally hilarious

>looks over at gwen meaningfully
>slowly turns to look at burning building
>slowly turns back to look at gwen

fucking LOL

and volunteering nurse aunt may commanding the troops after the power went back on ahahaha

I think that's true to a point - I think they specifically reboot the product after 3 because Raimi wanted more control again. I definitely think making it a "product," for a younger demographic was the end game. twilight comparisons, batman comparisons, etc.

hahah with that Battlefield 4 avatar this post just seems all types of ridiculous. Why do you care so much about what other people like?

I think it's good Raimi left, I don't think he should have done it if they weren't gonna let him bring his own vision to life. Not only that, but he said that he heard they were planning a reboot anyway. That whole situation just seemed messy, and the production on these two films have been all over the place. Sony may have the rights to this franchise, and I'm not gonna get all fanboy about it, but they certainly don't deserve it anymore if they're just going to turn them into giant advertisement for their products and not allow directors to express their voice, and vision. For everything that makes this feel like a Marc Webb movie, there is something else that makes it feel like he has to follow a studio checklist.

Nolans movies, Spiderman 2 and Ang Lees Hulk have been movies. Maybe the cynical cashgrabbing gets just more and more obvious.

Yeah, the reasons these movies are made is because they make tons of doe. They have their fan events, and sweepstakes or whatever that make fans feel like they're part of the experience. But if they didn't make money we probably wouldn't be getting a damn thing lol. Making money is the priority, but there was a time where these movies at least had a sense of integrity to them. Not all directors would walk off like Raimi did, some would stay there and take Sony's shit. Like where is that director who would have read Orci and Kurtzman's script and tell them to fuck right off lol.

Movies are a mutual benefit process. They give us entertainment, we give them money. People get really excited for this stuff. What's wrong with that?

I love how the people that hate these films and resent their very existence still paid like $13 or more to see it during the opening weekend.

That's why they'll keep on making them. No matter how hard they screw up, you'll still be there on Day One.

just saw this movie, it was okay. But after seeing the Winter Soldier twice, which is one of the best films I've ever seen, Amazing Spiderman 2 was really a let-down. The dialogue was awkward with many scenes that just lingered or felt unneeded, the villains had poor motivations, and as much as I love Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield (much more than the previous Spiderman cast), having her play a character that I knew was gonna be killed off was always such a waste IMO. They should have saved her for Mary Jane, I can't think of an actress with the voice and looks to better match my ideal movie MJ. :(

Well thats why he used the term cashgrab. There is a difference between making a quality product and exchanging that for money and making a product that meets the most basic requirements for money and in most forms of entertainment, you can usually get away with really good marketing and advertisement and by the time and the general public realizes the product is sub-par, you've probably already gotten their money.

I love Spider-Man, so yeah, I'm probably gonna go see these movies no matter what lol. But if I decided to stop seeing them in theaters entirely it wouldn't change shit, harsh truth. There is a day where these types of movies will stop making money we aren't there yet.

I see nothing wrong with paying money to see these films, and expecting better from them if they fall short in a lot of areas. I thought this movie could've been much better than it was. They nailed Spider-Man, but there was like no story. I don't usually use this as a barometer, but read the Wikipedia plot summary, it almost sounds like a made up fanfiction with how all over the place it sounds.

This would probably be a more interesting discussion if opinions didn't exist.

It baffles me to this day that Sony decided to fuck with Raimi and his Spidey films.

What could have been...

I think SpinDasher made a good point which I hadn't considered before..

Sony was already forcing Venom down Raimi's throat, can you imagine what other executive meddling might have forced the fourth film to become? I'm willing to bet it still wouldn't be as good as SM2.

So yeah. I understand that Sony is trying to make Spider-Man into an MCU tier superhero series, but this was not the way to do it. I don't think I'm gonna watch it again; didn't think it was that good. Instead of writing something that looks really nice, I'm just going to do a bulleted list of the things off the top of my head.

-They introduce a lot of things as if the audience was supposed to know what it meant. Every part of the Roosevelt/Papa Parker plotline felt as if they introduced something new to take the next step, but we were supposed to connect the dots.
-Harry was terrible. One minute he's talking to his dad and he's a nice kid. The next minute he's a colossal asshole to the board members(?). I don't think it was so much the acting so much as the writing and direction.
-Electro became Dr. Manhattan. I didn't understand that at all. Otherwise, I really liked the way they did Electro. There was no way they were going to pull off that terrible comic costume.
-It went on for 20 minutes too long. To me, the film should have ended after the Electro fight scene.
-This is super nit-picky, but whatever, when the planes are coming at each other on the radar, they're at an angle. When they fly past each other, they are head on.
-Gwen's death was pretty well done. The only thing I'm not sure of was it her head slamming against the ground or her neck snapping?
-Norman should be Green Goblin, not Harry.
-Mid-credits scene was worthless.

Just look at the Transformers and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises.

Yeah I definitely agree. Anything subpar released would've further damaged the rep of the previous films too. I think things were starting to turn spiteful too between Raimi and Sony, both parties seemed to know it as well. Man, fuck I remember being so excited for ASM too. Oh Sony is making a low-budget Spider-Man story without the origin, using hot young stars, a talented new director with a good eye for character relationships, AND they're calling James Cameron to ask how to shoot 3D action? Wow this movie might end up being the perfect thing after S-M3. NOPE.

More movies of Tobey making stupid faces whenever he tried to show any emotion?
I hate this, I could do the same fucking thing with Garfield.

People look stupid when they cry. That being said, I wasn't smirking or felt uncomfortable when he was crying over Gwen.
Yes they do, which is why it's such a dumb complaint. Sure I didn't feel uncomfortable when he cried over Gwen, but I smirked and felt uncomfortable when he cried over Uncle Ben ^^.

His crying face was genuine, some of his other facial expressions are terrible though but that's just him as a person, he does them in interviews too.

I think he was just being cautious, he even mentions what happens to Dr. Conners. And then Harry answers by saying, "Conners was weak."

Yeah he knew what happened to Connors first hand. He had no reason to think Harry would be different.

Oh, I saw Sculli mention how Pete could have given him his blood to run test on. There is no evidence that says Harry would have done this. Harry thought the venom would heal him because that's what the files said. Later on in the movie he shoots the venom straight up because he thinks that's all that has to do.

I hate this, I could do the same fucking thing with Garfield.

Everyone looks dumb when they cry. Everyone. Tobey makes horrible faces for everything. Watch the Great Gatsby and just look at him.

Wasn't Harry supposed to die when he turned like 40 or 50? His urgency felt weird. Like I get he just found out and is freaking out, but at the same time, the dude was acting like he had a few weeks left.

Nah, man nah. Tobey's face when Uncle Ben dies. When he has to tell Aunt May about what happened. When he has to tell MJ they can't be together. Tobey is gold.
