PS2 Appreciation & Celebration Thread, long live the King!

Gonna cost me near 150 bucks( or more if I decide to go for better conditions) to get all 3 Xenosaga games, excellent...

Just did that like two weeks ago and it certainly wasn't cheap. Same applies to Suikoden III-V. I was too OCD to get NTSC III and PAL IV-V so got hit with customs too (same with Xenosaga).

It hurts only once.

I am actually searching for a copy of Xenosaga III at the moment. It's a pain in the ass if you are living in Europe...

managed to 100% this PS2 classic the other night (on vita) including all master thief time trials!

Check Half Price Books first if you live in the US. They are actually pretty handy with finding PS2 stuff at good prices.

Ok guys, same here as the Dreamcast thread, PM me for consoles, PSX (I got 2) PS2 games, and PS1 games (and accessories I got a few of them) I have boxes in store. and at the house.

I have all three in mint condition, and I've been considering parting with them. I enjoyed 3, but 1 and 2... not so much.

I have more game boy games then books in a library. I suppose I could do one, one more...
In about to be every other persons best friend here soon aren't i?
My last statement I was wrong. It seems I WILL be best friends with every other member here. Ahh, back to the pms.
I don't want to be an asshole, but I hope people are being cautious about a new member showing up handing out so many games for such apparently good prices.

He is days old on GAF, not very old on eBay:

His listings either contain no photos, or stock photos on eBay. He has posted no pictures here on GAF, while his little store seems to have everything.

The couple members I've PM'd here have said he has had some pretty rare stuff, and still offered no photos despite pending sales.

His GAF profile says nothing about owning a gaming shop:

This morning when he was supposedly selling Dreamcasts on eBay like they were going out of style, the only one I actually saw listed, he ended himself:

Link here.

I hope I'm wrong, but this feels like a scam.... he's going into a bunch of retro threads claiming to have the greatest stash there is. Be smart people, ask for proof of items, never use paypal gift with new members. As of right now, he is giving no proof to anyone, but jumping into every retro thread there is like a gaming Jesus. This smells of scam.

Man, that's super neat. Would've loved if it had been seen through to completion, seems like it had potential for some pretty clever level design.

The Umihara Kawase designer hasn't designed any other games that have actually been released other than the Umihara Kawase series, has he? Shame if so, because if those games are anything to go by, he makes really mechanically solid titles.

really wish i could find Way of the Samurai 2 on the cheap...$20 ain't bad but still, wanna give that one another go.

I'd flip that. I found 1 and 2 to be really boring but loved 3 (mainly because of the connections to Xenogears)

it's just the endgame stuff that shat all over the plot for me that makes me hate it, everything else felt like a big step up from the disappointment that was 2 (except i dug parts of 2's OST)

Rare footage of a canceled PS2 game from the Umihara Kawase designer.

...Mzo needs to see this

He was one of the programmers on the original Ape Escape, but that's the only other game I know he's been credited for outside of the Umihara Kawase series.

found an extra, disc-only copy of Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution sitting around, would like to give it away to a GAFfer who will play it.

no bites in the FGW thread so you guys are next. let me know if you're interested!

I must confess, I've tried many times to get into Fatal Frame, and the game is just too scary for me. I feel dread looming over me in the game and I'd rather not be inside the game's world.

I put up with the frights offered in such games like REmake and Silent Hill, but I just can't deal with Fatal Frame. Its a hell of a spooky game.

Who else remembers black? This game was so good and it was the start (IMO) when EA games went really full throttle with the sound design. Wish this game had a sequel or at least emulated to play on the vita :/ wouldn't mind buying a remastered version

I got that on Xbox like a month ago.=O

Huh... I was planning to sell my copy of Sega Ages: Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box for a while there. I found out that a couple of the FM Snyth sounds were kinda off and figured I'd be better off tracking down the originals at some point. Then, today, I discovered 3 things:

1) Treasure Box has a 240p mode.
2) The slowdown has been removed
3) All of the sprite flickering has been fixed.

The last one is huge, because these games were kind of a mess on the Genesis, with all the shit exploding everywhere. Actually, those last two are big enough of a deal that I think this might actually be preferable to playing the games on the original hardware. Crazy!

It also has the Japanese and World modes of all three games, which doesn't matter much except for Dynamite Headdy. The Japanese version is so much better.

Well, English Alien Soldier at 60Hz is nice. But yeah, Dynamite Headdy had some serious difficulty tuning differences for the US version... among many other things.

2 or 3 months ago I was lucky, because in my local Tesco, they had one new and sealed Black. Not platinum, but first release of this game. I never play it, but must change it and try.

Bought a few months ago on XBox, but have got it on PS2 for years and finished it there.
Fantastic game, and shamefully I wish there were more games when you shoot a rocket on a building the windows in the splash area explode awesomely!
The game had a spiritual sequel called Bodycount, created by some of Criterion's ex-developer and published by Codemasters.
It didn't do well in the reviews, but I'd like to try it one day.

^black is such gun porn

caught Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven for $4 complete, wish i could swing Way of the Samurai 2 for about that much, Samurai Western too (always meant to spend some time with that one).
I'm gonna be working my way back through PS2 gems for years to come.

Still adding to my PS2 collection. Such amazing games and you can actually find the rare ones cheap still...for now. My most recent find was a nice lot of niche games at Goodwill. They were behind the case with a bunch of Anime. Picked up complete copies of .hack Mutation, Ghost in the Shell, Fallout Brotherhood of Steel, Art of Fighting Anthology, Dragonball Z Budokai 3, and some others including others I'm forgetting atm and some for other systems for $2.25 each. I can't help but think someone was upset when they found out these were given away, lol.

I've also found some good deals at Pawn Shops and would suggest other Gaffers check their local Pawn Shops. I have a local shop that sell all PS1, PS2, Xbox, and GC titles for $2 each regardless of title (every once in a while they hold back a Mario GC title for $5, LMAO). They even run a monthly sale where all titles on these systems and all DVD's are $1 each one Saturday a month. I've picked up some amazing games like complete copies of Suikoden V, Trapt, Timesplitters Future Perfect, to name a few of the PS2 finds. Even Craigslist offers up some great deals every now and then.

Still have a long way to go but I've amassed a nice collection of well over 50 PS2 games in the last year and have some of the hardest to find out of the way like Rule of Rose-thanks to a great deal from a gaffer ;). I have a feeling prices are going to rise in the next several months as collectors start picking more and more of them up. I'm sure deals will still be round if we search in the right spots though.

I think you're right in the sense that prices are rising. I'm seeing a lot more interest in the PS2 scene these days. To be honest, it's still a very good period for any PS2 pickups and I'd recommend checking in any car bot sales/flea markets and charity shops. You still can do very good deals!
My collection has almost 200 games, and might reach it in the next months.

The mark of kri is very inetersting but that camera is too big of an issue for me. I'm going through my PS2 backlog quicker than expected... I was hoping I would find something worth sticking with.

I picked up Metal Arms: Glitch in the System and Timesplitters 2 at Goodwill. They also had San Andreas but the disc looked atrocious.

Timesplitters 2 was one of my most played games, but on the Gamecube. I'm not a fan of the inverted Y axis, but the PS2 version runs nice.

EDIT: Oh jesus I missed one of the config menus, fixed the invert. *sigh*

Looks like the new movie got people interested in the Godzilla games again. The PS2/Xbox/GC games are going for crazy prices right now.

I think I'm going to do some game hunting at various second-hand shops this weekend. I'm still looking for the following:

  • Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams
  • Amplitude
  • Frequency
  • Dark Cloud 2
  • Soul Reaver 2

Oh man, one of my favorite shooters of that generation. I played the demo so much before the actual game came out. One of the best games for the PS2.

I can't wait for Playstation Now. The prospect of playing some of these PS2 classics on my Vita would be amazing.

My tower collection must be huge.

Do I have a chance of finding Drakengard 2 at a reasonable price? I want to judge for myself like I did with D1.
