OK, that thread was fun to read:

As much as I'd love to see them, I can't help thinking that Rocket Racoon and Groot would be too 'out there' for a mainstream Marvel movie.
I felt the same way, and I think I'm happier for it that it's actually happening.

I have never ever heard of this team before. I imagine nobody from the mainstream has either.

...and they still haven't!

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Could it be the reveal of a cocoon in some weird spaceship church? THERE ARE SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!

We already know he's with the Collector from the Thor2 credits scene.

My money is on it being the Time gem.

Reality would make more sense to use for Dr. Strange. Explain his powers/enemies by making the Eye of Agamotto the Reality gem. Although I guess you could also use Soul for that one.

That, and Time would make a lot of sense thematically, what with Peter Quill essentially being a man out of time here. He's a product of the 70s dealing with highly advanced intergalactic issues.

Quill is not a man out of time. He's a human away from earth. Not even remotely the same concept. Him dealing with advanced alien technology is a non issue since he would have grown up around it.

I keep forgetting they going to have movies inbetween A2 and A3.

GotG should be Reality Gem. Dr Strange should be Soul Gem. They can save the Time Gem for something in Phase 3 when they need to massively retcon something. :)

Thanos can torture somebody in the after credit scene of Avengers 2 and he asked them where the time gem is and they say "Wakanda". Then the guy dies with a smile on his face.

I said essentially a man out of time. I know his history. I've read his comics. But he's essentially a man out of time thematically. In that his ship is this advanced ship, but is filled with memorabilia from the 70s.

The film contrasts his 70s commodities—particularly his Walkman and mixtape—with an advanced alien environment. The Time gem would fit very well in there thematically, mirroring the film's own past/advanced tech contrast.

But, yeah, they could also just use Soul for Dr. Strange. There's really no calling what they could be using in GotG. It's all up in the air right now!

He is not longing for the 70s he is longing for home. It just happened to be the 70s when he left. If it was the 00s he would have an ipod.

I know. But his home happens to be the earth of the 70s. I'm not saying he's stuck in the past, or that he's somehow lost around alien tech—clearly he isn't, what with his mask, guns, ship, and rocket boost. I'm saying the film contrasts his 70s tech with more advanced alien tech. The Time gem would be a good thematic mirror for that.

Time gem in Ant-Man to make Hank Pym young again
I... I would be okay with this. Ant-Man and Giant Man buddy movie.

Could be the most fun movie of the summer,

Thought I am worried that MARVEL might be over-saturating the market with their properties.

its like the 4th MARVEL IP this year alone

I've been thinking this for a long time, & now someone agrees with me.

He's actually a child of the 80's in the movie.

MARVEL does 2 movies a year. Sony did Spider-Man and Fox did X-Men. With both Sony and Fox (and Warner Bros.) wanting to turn out movies as often as Marvel the bubble is going to be popping soon. Hopefully it doesn't happen until after we get Avengers 3.

More then the Marvel IP I think it is the superhero genre in general that is getting over-saturated and the poop ones are going to ruin it for all of us. :(

Thats the thing though, people associate Spider Man and X-men more with MARVEL than do Fox or Sony, and with the big red MARVEL logo appearing before each one, when the bubble does burst, it will look like MARVEL's fault because, let's face DC aint got shit besides Batman and last one of those got a slight backlash.

4 this year but.... 1 is a political action thriller. 1 is a space adventure and new IP. 1 is a time travel plot to retcon past mistakes.

The only one that fits the generic CBM to a tee is Amazing Spider-Man and that still made good money(if you ignore the budget).

It will be interesting when DC finally releases something against all the others in the same year.

I don't like the idea of all the gem stuff revolving around earth too much, it's too convenient. If they get Dr. Strange in on that at least they can get away to other planes of existence.

Ideally I would like Thanos to already have a couple of them by the time Guardians rolls around. One on Asgard, one with Collector, one with the Guardians, one with Strange would be cool.

Weren't we already sure that Loki's scepter was a gem as well? I thought the running theory was that it held the Mind gem.

If that's the case, then that one is with
Hydra
.

Assuming that the gems will follow their comic counterparts, is this where we're at so far?

Power - Aether
Mind - Loki's staff?
Soul
Space - Tesseract
Time
Reality

Pretty hard to pin down where the orb in GotG will fit in. I would think that maybe the Soul gem would coincide with whenever Adam Warlock shows up, leaving the Reality gem for Dr. Strange.

This is why marvel is trying to differentiate their movies so it's not just another super hero movie.

Are we thinking that Phase 3 is

GOTG2
Cap3
Thor3
Ant-Man
Dr. Strange

leading to A3?

I could see Phase 3 being:

Ant-Man
Cap 3 (to rebuild SHIELD, establish politics)
Captain Marvel (to connect GOTG with Earth)
Dr. Strange (to establish magic and/or a powerful villain)
GOTG2 (to set up Thanos and the gauntlet)

A3 - bringing together everything, the gems, Thanos, the Heroes, possibly the Villains?

That, of course, leaves out Thor. Phase 3 could absolutely be 6 movies long, but, if they did this, I think A3 would be filmed concurrently with one of the other movies, and perhaps come out as a winter release during a 3-movie year.

Also, I know Black Widow's the big talk right now for getting a solo outing, but I could see Marvel really wanting to establish Danvers as their big solo woman, especially since she can serve as a bridge between the Avengers and Marvel Cosmic.

Unfortunately, this is highly likely. I still believe it's what happened with Guitar Hero/Rock Band.

IF Marvel can establish that these are very different types of movies, then it's possible for them to continue putting things out (especially if Marvel Cosmic truly comes off as a space adventure and not a superhero film).

Personally, a Nova movie centered around Richard Rider would be a better choice to link the Guardians & Earth, since the Nova Corps (& specifically Rhomann Dey) are already going to be established, but he'd lean more towards the space side of things. Ms./Captain Marvel would lean more towards Earth & fill the solo female-led movie quota, so I see the benefit in using her.

They said Phase 3 was going to be long, so I actually wouldn't be surprised if it was pushing 7 or 8 movies.

Cap3
Ant Man
Captain Marvel (Please? Pretty please? Just give me some Carol)
Black Widow (They've been hinting hard at this)
Thor 3
GOTG2 (Only if the first does well)
Dr. Strange (obviously, plus the other gem)

I want to see something with Black Panther, but I have a sneaking suspicion that he'll debut as a Netflix series, not a movie. But we'll see.

At least you can talk. Who are you?

Does anyone else think A3 might be two parts? I know a lot of people thought A2 might be but if A3 is the conclusion to the past 15 odd movies plus AoS and The Defenders/Netflix stuff, seems like two parts would be fitting, though would that breach some contracts? Technically two separate films. I'm just thinking out loud.

Ant-Man
Dr. Strange
Cap 3 are all lock-ins imo. I don't think they'll do a GOTG 2 (instead have some guardians crossover in other film(s)). I reckon they'll do a Black Widow film or Hawkeye (maybe both at same time, call it "Budapest" and show what they got up to there), but after Phase 3, though, again, actors might be a bit old/no longer contracted to do so.

I've never been more excited about a film franchise than the MCU, I love all this speculation.

Cap 3 (to rebuild SHIELD, establish politics)

Agents of Shield spoilers.
Coulson is already doing that. As the new director of SHIELD he and his team would have to play a significant role in the film if that is the route they went. Actually it would probably be absolutely fantastic for the show and give it a huge bump.
They should do this.

Anyway as long as we are doing wish lists for Phase 3 I would want to see:

  • Ant-Man (2015)
  • Cap 3 featuring Black Panther (2016)
  • Doctor Strange (2016)
  • Hulk movie featuring Black Widow and Hawkeye (because none can carry a movie alone) (2017)
  • Captain Marvel (2017)
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (featuring Nova) (2018)
  • Thor 3: Dawn of the Infinity Guantlet (2018)
  • Infinity Gauntlet (maybe in two parts?) (2019)
I think the last two movies being cosmic would help build up the Thanos hype. Thor 3 would be great as the last movie before Infinity Gauntlet. Have it end with Thanos killing Loki and taking the Infinity Guantlet and Tesseract.

I would also really like to see some more Don Cheadle but at this point I don't see it happening. Falcon would also be cool to see more of. At this point I think it is less likely you see a black character as the lead of a Marvel movie then it is to see a female.

I like this. And then after Infinity Gauntlet they can push Earth Marvel aside and give us Annihilation, Realm of Kings, and Thanos Imperative for phase 4.
I happen to love modern Cosmic Marvel more than Earth Marvel; sue me.

EDIT: Shiiiiit, sorry for the double post.

You could have War Machine show up in Cap 3 or Hulk 2.

I know I'm hoping for a solo Ruffalo Hulk movie. Though, it's probably best if they left off the numbers for that one. Don't want to remind people about TIH and get people confused and thinking they need to watch the first one or anything.

Watching the trailer and thinking about what could be the premise.

Maybe it could be this (comic references):

Maybe this is Ultron's origin is going to be. They appear to be setting up the Kree as some invasion force with those Ronan shots, so maybe the Kree are under assimilation from the Phalanx (Annihilation Conquest).

Then, when they purge the Phalanx from the Kree, it manifests into Ultron for the Avengers at Earth. I dunno, definitely seems like the Kree are the enemies in this movie.
