Hey! I'm a first-generation Filipino (2 of my grandparents are Filipino, 1 Chinese, and 1 Spanish) born and raised in Toronto, Canada.

While both of my parents are from San Fernando, Pampanga, they met each other in Toronto. They were more interested I learn French and master English (I didn't do either of these, lol) as opposed to their dialect and main language. I can understand Kapampangan a decent amount though, thanks to Lola. Haha.

Haven't been back to the Philippines since I was 3, but I'd love to go as soon as possible.

Any other Filipino hip-hop artists out there

I don't know of any other Filipino hip-hop artists, but have a Filipino MMA fighter?

theme song for this thread? Was listening to this album when I saw this thread, lol.

Any other Filipino hip-hop artists out there? Between Bambu and Prometheus Brown/Geologic of Blue Scholars, I've been in a weird Filipino hip-hop mood recently, heh

Try checking ABRA and branch out from there. He kinda made it big in the mainstream. But wait does Hip Hop = Rapping? If so, check GLOC-9

When you eat chicken, who eats all the cartilage here? I know I DO! :D

Does ABRA and JAY-R count? Listen to Gayuma, and PArachute respectively if they fit in. As for the MMA.. there was this guy.. I forgot his name. There's a local tourney here ala MMA/UFC I think it's called URCC or something like that.

@languages
I guess they just want you to prioritize your studies, and well being for your credentials/education

Pasig master race.

Shit, I just realized I left the Philippines 17 years ago (in the States now).

I miss Ilocos. =;(

You can always come back here. It's surprisingly cloudy today!

Rock on, I don't think I've heard of this event but that's sweet! Wiki tells me that it's run by Alvin Aguilar, and the name sounds familiar.

Oh by all means, that was my father's very intention. I'm upset with myself that I never took learning French seriously. I am learning Tagalog (and French) via Rosetta Stone though, and that's proving to be fun. I can understand my mom's dramas a bit now. Haha.

Heh, I went to elementary school and junior high with Munoz. Good guy. Large Filipino community here in California, felt like most my classes were at least 50% Filipino - though I grew up in a Navy town, which likely explains it.

40ish here for the weather for the past few days. When you step out, it's like a dry sauna at one place, and it becomes a wet sauna later on hahaha.

Thank you SM, Robinson's, Ayala, Shangrila malls...

Holy crap our thread got buried in my subs list lol. Anyway who in here has/or will get a ps4? Add me mga kapatid. sinta0531. I I impulsively bought a PS4 I saw on sale online. I've never seen a ps4 get that cheap so I did not even think twice about it... Needless to say I was like WTF did I just do few moments after checking out the item. I dont even need it and now I have a ps4 with only Flower and Outlast as the game lol. I was disappointed to know it doesnt have HBO Go or YT app yet smh. Will get AC, Destiny soon and maybe GTA V or NBA2k15 or TLOU too. I don't play online games that often, but feel fre to add me

Pasig master race.

Shit, I just realized I left the Philippines 17 years ago (in the States now).

I've been here for only 7 years. Left pinas when I was 16. And still haven't been back there since that. Feels like forever and yesterday at the same time. Checked my facebook to see how they doin some got kids, married or just finished med school and yep never in my life I've felt so left behind lol. Hoping I can come visit them this xmas holidays or 2015 summer.

Are there any other Filipino spots in Houston that you gotta go to when you're down there? My fam is planning a trip down there sometime this summer. We've got NASA, Jollibee and maybe Galveston on the list so far.
I've been to some Filipino restaurants around the western part of Houston, but I wouldn't recommend most of them at all. Not even worth the detour you will take just to get a taste of the food.

That said...These are the restos I liked. "Filipino Buffet" formerly house of chicken - 10950 Bissonnet St Houston, TX 77099
or "Filipiniana" my favorite filipino resto here - 9671 Bissonnet St, Houston, TX 77036
My coworker told me there's this new filipino resto that opened recently, just walking distance from where Jollibee Houston is . Never been there yet, but she told me the food was good. Not buffet like the other 2 i mentioned. So that is what i'm gonna visit next when I swing around that area.

Speaking of school, you go to UH by any chance?
No.Why? But my brother is currently taking post grad engineering classes in there. I graduated from a community college lol :p.

This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen when I visited a couple of years ago. Chili's was created here in Dallas and while it's a local thing, we've never considered it as an upscale chain. So when a family friend suggested we go to a Chili's in Makati because it's where the rich people hang out, I almost died laughing.
I once told my best friend in pinas (thru skype) that once i come visit them I would treat them to Jollibee.. my dude was laughing at me with that WTF Bro? face lmao.. I guess thats what i'm gonna do hehe.

here is a video of me speaking tagalog . hope its ok to post the link here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78E8dElY-KU

This is the de facto OT, but has anyone thought about making a proper one? New might attract more people, I think.

Add another one to the list. Born back home but left when I was 2 before finally moving to the States at 7. Have not been back since '95 though.

I understood you just fine and you speak better than I do! Keep at it.

Oh, another 707 head. I moved away in '88 but still have lots of family and friends there. Got quite a few that went to Vallejo Sr. in Mark's class so they keep in touch sporadically. As an MMA fan, it was cool seeing pics of them with him.

My wife and I are now officially going to the Philippines in December for Christmas. Huzzah! We're going to Tayud in Cebu to stay with her family for a few weeks. I get to take all her nieces and nephews to the store to buy them Christmas presents, so that should be fun, haha.

I miss the food mostly
Iskrambol is so gooood

I forgot how it tastes like... All i know is that even though it looks like its strawberry flavored judging by its color, it doesnt taste anywhere near like it. But it doesnt matter since its masarap hehe.

I'm glad the power and internet is back on. I was dreading there would be no electricity for days.

FWIW: We have a ridiculous presence in battle rap—FlipTop did an international event at Araneta earlier this year, so there's that.

So in high school I was friends with a number of Filipino girls and ended up being part of their debuts. Felt like a Filipino quinceanera, so I was right at home. I was emptying out my closet this week when I realized that I have like three pairs of barong (sp?).

What the heck should I do with them lol.

Your Mom is awesome because she makes me pancit for lunch at work. Being a white dude with a Filipina/Pakistani girlfriend has some awesome perks. :p

Photo of said pancit:

Ahh, Youre making me hungry. Looks so good. Its been a while since i ate a home made pancit.

There are some "instant pancit" you can find in asian supermarkets. I gotta say, those are pretty good too. Good enough to satisfy my pancit hunger from time to time when no ones there to cook the real pancit for me. I have like an addiction to instant filipino noodles lol.

You guys should try to eat Balut. It's good.

Heh, I was eating one outside a pinoy shop here in Sydney one time. I was enjoying myself eating it (its winter here and the balut was just cooked), I didn't noticed the people passing by. A lot were making nausea faces haha!

Good man. Haha, it's masarap (delicious).

I eat Balut but eat too much in one day and you'll get high blood.

So it turns out there was a death in my wife's family and we're going to be flying to the Philippines next Wednesday. It sucks, but... it is sadly a part of life.

So that being said, I'm a little unsure what the pack... what do folks usually wear to a funeral in the Philippines? I have Barong, but should I bring a suit and tie and dress shirt to wear? I could/should ask my wife, but she is under enough stress at the moment.

Any tips regarding general Filipino funeral customs and such would be good to know too.

Also, last time we were there my electronic devices weren't charging worth a damn. Since they're all US devices at 120v do I need a 220>120/110v adapter? Or would one of those world travel adapter things suffice?

Thanks in advance :)
