Who will have the biggest E3 surprise?

If Microsoft has Rare announce a proper Banjo Kazooie/Conker sequel then I can assure you that'll gain them positive reaction and will cause many sales (myself included).

But I feel like they'll announce some random IP's that won't really interest me personally. And maybe a lot of Halo stuff, but I'm done with Halo.

Sony will surprise many if they really do announce Project Beast and/or the Last Guardian and/or Syphon Filter for ps4.

Someone look into this.....what franchises' 20th anniversary is coming soon.

Not a franchise, but that's probably what Gopher is referring to

I think Microsoft really need something big to reveal, but I feel like they put all their eggs in the TitanFall basket and basked in the 'gaming journalism hype' for all of last year.

I think it's more likely for Sony to actually have something to reveal that is closer to release, but Microsoft will probably announce more (but further out) projects in an effort to stop the bleeding.

Nintendo though - I guess new hardware announcement, they can't accidentally kill sales for WiiU after all...

TBH the last guardian looks good, but I don't understand this hype around it.
What is it with this game that makes people "crazy" for it?

Who knows?
All three of the big three could easily have something up their sleeves that no one could have ever predicted.
I'd say Nintendo has the best chance to deliver a huge surprise. No one knows what to expect from them, they're kind of a wild card.
Hell, if they didn't completely blow their load in that early 2013 direct, they would have had a slew of surprises last year.

People don't think TLG will be a surprise after 5 years of MIA.....are you kidding yourself? We have had so many threads with people claiming the game is dead/cancelled.....it won't be a surprising announcement since we expect, but I would be surprised if they showed it explicitly.

Has to be Microsoft. They need to impress at E3 or they'll be fighting the media narrative of being the loser system for the rest of 2014.

Said what exactly?

That they were holding back till E3?

Pretty much. Nothing wrong with holding off big announcements for the time that big announcements tend to be made, E3. I don't understand what everyone's issue with Sony being quiet is, I feel like MS blew their load a bit. They definitely did last year to try to get hype for the console going and they did it again to put out good Xbox news amidst bad news about sales. It'll work in the short term but if next year and the year after, we see the same games constantly, it won't be good.

It comes from the creators of two of the industry's best examples of games as art. Not to mention anticipation and cockteasing makes everything more anticipated. Deny people something and they'll want it more. Half Life 3 syndrome.

Maybe we should look at 1995 releases, I'm sure most of the games announced at E3 will be released in 2015 anyway.

Suikoden pls

I've seen a playthrough of Shadow of the Colossus. The game was.... empty? I don't know how to say it but it was nothing special in my opinion.

Wow

Why do you keep asking this in every fucking thread that mentions it? And every time we tell you, go play ICO and Shadow of the Colossus fool.

Speaking of anniversaries, I bet it would surprise a lot of people if Nintendo declared that they'll spend this year celebrating the company's 125th birthday. This September 23, they turn 1/8th of a millenium old!

Microsoft and Nintendo.

I think that after these first 6 months on the market, Microsoft will pull out whatever they can to show that they're all about the games after last year's press blunders and the Kinect-less bundle announcement. I'm sure they've got a lot planned. Gotta boost sales to try and catch Sony.

Pull out the big franchises and put out some new IP's. Oh and give us some delicious Sunset Overdrive info. Master Chief HD Collection will be nice to see as well.

With Nintendo, we all get really hyped and really disappointed because we hyped too hard. However, this year feels like it could be the exception. Everything is looking down for Nintendo right now. Wii U sales are low, 3DS sales are still healthy but not as strong, and they're posting historic losses.

For them, I think desperation may breed inspiration/innovation. They've got to pull out all of the stops to kickstart some Wii U momentum. They need this E3 to be the defibrillator that brings the Wii U back from the brink while maintaining/boosting 3DS sales. The Gamepad-centric games and NFC ventures are all yet to be seen. Plus, we have itsfuckingzelda.gif. Aside from that, we have several previously announced titles that we're all looking forward to like Bayonetta 2, X, and Smash for this year. Who knows what they've got up their sleeves for Old and New IP's for the upcoming 1-2 years? Never know with Nintendo....

Cranky Kong FPS with Wii U Zapper

Hey look! I don't have a problem with Sony being furtive regarding its big announcements, so long as they deliver them at E3.

The time for waiting and promises is over! This E3 Sony needs to restore faith in the reputation of its game development and WWS and demonstrate the veracity of its claims of 30 PS4 titles in developments.

In before e3 hype thread gets locked.

My gut says Sony will be declared "winners" as they have the goodwill/momentum and will have a couple of graphical powerhouse games no doubt.

However with the amount of stuff MS are pulling forward I am genuinely curious as to what they gave up their sleeve...

Microsoft: All they gotta do is debut the new Phantom Pain trailer at their conference along with release date and i'm done.

Half Life 3.

I mean, is Valve really going to not have a single game for 2014?

They're making tons of cash even without the Half-life franchise. I doubt they care that much now for HL3.

And making games is about making money.

Dispite nintendos failures with the wii u I feel like they have been doing somethings right heading into mario kart 8 at least marketing wise. And i also feel like that they understand the urgency of the wii u situation. I expect for them to show us some starfox, metroid and zelda and then shock us with closer than expected release dates. They also have Qol and the new NFC game to show plus we might see some pokken fighters. There is definitely potential for nintendo to steal the show this time but with nintendo you just never know.

Wow

The hell is your problem? This is the first time I asked this on GAF, how about you make sure you are talking to the right person before giving that attitude.

I don't remember the last time an E3 conference genuinely excited me, even though I enjoyed last year's more than usual, so I'd rather not get hyped for it as more often than not it ends up in disappointment.

Edit: just thought I'd add that I think this is Microsoft's last real chance of remaining relevant instead of playing catching-up to Sony in at least a few years to come. If Microsoft doesn't grab more attention at this year's E3 than Sony, they will start falling behind significantly more, even with the "price drop".

Microsoft only because they've shown some huge stuff you would have thought would be used at E3.
My bet is Microsoft too - but not for the same reason.
I think all these pre-e3 announcements are just there to keep the hype train rolling (and sales) between the Kinect removal announcement and it's availability on 9th June. Wouldn't surprise me if they've tied up some third party exclusive we've yet to see.

With ntkrnl's post seemingly close to being 100% legit, I'd have to say Sony at this point. Unless Nintendo unveils a new hardware, or EA (or Ubi) has a megaton waiting in the wings, which I doubt, since we already ktnow a police-themed BF is on the way, as well as another Star Wars game.

Mind, this might be my most anticipated E3 in years. Last year was big due to the new consoles, but for this one, we should see the actual games in the next year or two.

Hasn't Sony themselves said the game isn't cancelled and they are just waiting for the right time to re-debut it?

Honestly, as excited as I would be about TLG showing up, this board VASTLY overestimates the importance that game has.

some people have very low expectations. there are some people who thought it was exciting that final fantasy versus xiii was renamed final fantasy xv.

I have a feeling that Sony may put to much focus on projects like:
  • Morpheus
  • Playstation now

Instead of (new) games.

In that case MS may have a shot if they focus on games only and get some surprises in there.

Sony they just have too many things to still talk about and show such as 1st party exclusives and i like the silence with no leaks for once.

Most these was not surprise.
Bayonetta 2 on WiiU was a surprise, FF13 on 360 was a surprise, because no one see them coming.
Resurrect old IP not a surprise, games coming back from development hell not a surprise.

Microsoft.

I cant remember the last time sony had a game surprise. Usually their surprises are all hardware or price announcements.
